Sherene was her case manager nurse and was always available no matter what time of the day. I always looked forward to the Social Worker Shekinah visits as she always made me feel I needed to take care of myself. She always showed sincere concern of my mental and physical care. By end of day on Tuesday I called my primary doctor office to get a new referral for home support. Wednesday morning I called the new referral authorization they said they did not have the authorization yet even though I gave them the number. I destiny home health.com/ waited 5 hours & called back still they had not received authorization. I call my medical center back ask them to fax it to Destiny home, I waited 20 minutes & called them back to see if the received the authorization and believe it or she then told me they don't have staff to cover & was rerouting my authorization back to my pro. All these facilities are so unprofessional unbelievable. Not even my dr will reach out to to assist. SAD PART IS IM AFRAID OF NOT PROPERLY HEALING BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PT EXERCISES I NEED TO START ON MYSELF. BECAUSE I WAS TOLD BY THELMA OFFICE MANAGER THAT IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 2 WEEK TO GET A NEW APPROVAL.

My husband and I were the primary caretakers but I don't know how we would have managed without VITAS. Can't say enough good things about our VITAS care team. Our loved one was walking and somewhat independent at the start, and honestly quite a bit resistant to help/pain relieving medications/helpful medical equipment. Our head nurse Ogin handled the situation with professionalism and patience, but also honesty. Eventually, after experiencing all of the help provided, my mother in law told him "I don't like you, I love you." I am not a medical professional but I am particular about the care provided to my loved one, and I saw that everyone we interacted with at VITAS knows what they are doing. They were right about everything they suggested and were proactive in getting us resources/medicines/supplies before we ever got desperate. When something was not an emergency and we didn't need immediate care, they were right in assessing that too. We had Ogin, Mo, Krista, Alma, and eventually when around the clock nurses were needed, Jasmine, Daniel, Zach, and Natalie helped us. We also saw Jaqueline and Rochelle for drop-in visits and chaplain Karis. People should know that the beginning of hospice care can be a bit overwhelming and hectic because there are so many resources being established quickly - the medical equipment/supplies get delivered and bunch of team members reach out to provide assistance. It took a while for my mother in law and us as caretakers to adjust to all of the new faces and devices in our lives but I would advise people to stick with it and stick with VITAS because they have a process that works and honestly the staff are the most caring, compassionate, and respectful people I have ever met. Thank you so much to the VITAS team for guiding us through one of the most difficult but important processes we will ever experience, which is caring for a dying loved one.

Bear Valley Hospice walked me through everything step by step and took care of my dad as though he were their own father. When he passed, it was the most calm peaceful thing I had ever seen. That is due to the help of the Bear Valley Hospice nurses. Achlee and Christine helped me stay calm and therefore my dad. They helped calm him and take care of him so he was more peaceful than I had seen him in a very long time. Lilybeth's organization of Specialists came in and cared for my father in his dying days, with compassion, expertise, and Grace. Alayna provided the utmost gentile ministration. They would clean my father and then massage these amazing oils into his hands, feet, and body. One night my father took a turn for the worse and I was crying and called Lilybeth for help and she responded with, "I will be right there!" and she was! Each aspect of this organization is tailored to your needs. They all work together: the RN's, Lilybeth, the daily caregiving and the ministers who come to minister to any faith. He did not want to stay another night! Even though it was late the night that we got home, Dr. Fukuda visited us to introduce himself and engage in meaningful conversation with my dad. Dr. Fukuda has a very positive and friendly presence, and he knows what questions to ask to spark interest in the patient. The weekly visits from the nurse, Karen, gave my father something to look forward to. When she came to check vitals and address any concerns, she was efficient, but also respectful. I also liked her use of more natural medicines. Finally, I was comforted by Chaplain Wong's visits and phone calls.
