At the moment I am only doing 30 min sessions and although they are quick, they are fast-paced and effective (i.e. I now have a butt!) Like a few other commenters, I supplement my training with other activities like walking/running, etc. I could probably benefit from class pass or something else, but at the moment my schedule is only really suited for a twice a week thing. That being said, if you're like me and can only do this training as your means of working out, you WILL still see great improvements. I also do love the solo sessions verse being around other people who are watching you sweat and grunt in weird positions...unless you're into that.

I first came in because of an offer for a first class free. My rep showed me how everything worked, including the heartbeat monitor on the arm band, which they give you for free on your first visit. An instructor walked me around the studio explaining the class format and made sure I was comfortable with water and a towel. When class started he periodically checked in with me but was not overbearing. I loved how while everyone worked out individually, seeing everyone's stats on the screen did make it feel like a team effort. I really appreciated learning about the different heart rate "zones" and later did research on this when I got home. My sales rep explained the pricing tiers yet was not pushy which I appreciated and I signed up within the week. The app made it very easy to book, see stats, etc. The club has fun challenges each month and really does have a sense of community. It was always clean and you can tell instructors here really care about the members. I only quit because I ended up moving to another neighborhood but this gym truly did change my physique while I was a member, making me stronger and noticeably had an impact on my cardio endurance. I'd recommend this gym to anyone.

They strap on a heartbeat monitor on your arms which helps to instruct you on the amount of effort that you should be giving. I really loved this idea because I'm generally at a loss of if I'm not pushing myself hard enough or what my goals should be based on my body type. The only thing is that when we were reviewing my stats, the coach noted that sometimes it doesn't register well for newbies. That was unfortunate news, because I really wanted to gain an understanding of my body. Separately, everyone is nice. check-in desk greets you with a smile. They gave a free water and towel which made me feel welcome. Lockers don't need a lock so it's convenient and shampoo/hairdryers in the women's lockers. The hip hop and rock music was great to push through the workout. Since there were no phones allowed and the biometrics on the screen, you got to focus on your personal goals without distractions. The coach offers corrections, but for the most part it's at your own pace. I already recommended to a friend.

They have a keen eye on form, cue transitions seamlessly, and sequence moves in a way that causes muscle fatigue while switching it up and not leaving you lingering in one particular move for too long. My favorite coaches are Casey (she used to teach at Studio MDR in Southern California, which is major lagree street cred), Elissa and Chase. Their routines are always creative, spicy and leave you wanting more! Happy working out, Yelpers!

Upon my arrival, the receptionist informed me that my reservation was not showing up in the system, despite having email and app confirmation directly from the studio. Despite presenting evidence, I was told there was nothing she could do. I suggested manually signing me up due to what appeared to be a system error, but she claimed she lacked the authority to do so. When I requested to speak to the manager for authorization, I was informed that the manager was off that day. Given the half-empty class and my effort in traveling 40 minutes to attend, I expected some level of leniency or understanding. Unfortunately, I was not permitted to take the class. I understand that technical glitches can occur, but the lack of a backup plan or any effort to accommodate the situation was disheartening. I believe in fair treatment and flexibility, especially in situations where the fault lies with the studio's reservation system. Edited to say: the instructor also walked up to say "luckily there's an extra space in the class! This is not a review on the instructor but of the reception's handling of the situation.

We were staying nearby and my husband had a guest pass and it was either vegging out in the hotel room, eyeing the minibar, or moving my butt, so off I went. This Equinox is situated pretty close to the Insta-famous picture spot of the Brooklyn Bridge that all the movies and TV shows feature, so be prepared to wade through a camera-wielding crowd. The stairs to the check-in desk aren't bad at all. If you want a Stairmaster workout before your actual workout, try the stairs at the Seaport location in Boston. Brutal. Layout is pretty typical for an Equinox - I did appreciate the natural light facing the weights area. Perhaps in a nod to what the clientele are clamoring for, much of the space is devoted to weights/machines, with all the cardio equipment in a smaller cluster near the back. When we went in the afternoon on a weekday, the space, particularly the locker room, was completely deserted. There's also a smoothie/juice bar on the first floor.

I usually work out in the afternoons and evenings, but my schedule changed last week, so I've had to switch to mornings and early afternoons. Today, I informed a staff member that the cleaning wipes dispenser was empty and needed to be refilled. While waiting, I noticed another dispenser across the weight room and grabbed wipes from there. A few minutes later, the staff member approached me and said the dispenser wasn't empty--that the wipes had simply fallen to the bottom and I needed to look down inside to see them. She then added, in a very condescending tone, "I'm not the cleaner though," and walked away while I was still speaking. That interaction didn't sit right with me. I simply reported an issue, and the response was dismissive and unprofessional. From experience, once interactions with staff reach that point, they tend to become tense and unpleasant moving forward, so I choose to move on. I've always been respectful and pleasant, and I used to really enjoy this gym and its staff. This was my first time working out during the daytime at this location, and thankfully it will also be my last. The evening staff have always been welcoming, respectful, and helpful--completely different from what I experienced today. This used to be a great place to work out, but after today, I have no interest in returning. I'm already looking into other membership options.

However, the only complaints I have on the gym itself, is that: 1: there is only 1 flat, incline, and decline bench press, which creates a problem (especially on the flat bench press) with everyone trying to use it. 2: the amount of chlorine in the pool is very high, although it is understandable due to the nature and the amount of people that go there. 3: This only applies to this one older lady who monitors the weightlifting area occasionally, but I consistently see her peering disgustedly at the young men as they talk to each other or work out, and she'll sometimes interrupt or intrude upon somone mid set to yell at them about some minuscule thing. More importantly, registration and cancellation are very frustrating experiences. Their website didn't work when trying to register due to a past YMCA registration I had in the system from over a decade ago. And forget about cancelling - it's like trying to get someone at the DMV to respond to you. It's taken 3+ phone calls and 5 unanswered emails from me and I'm about to call my credit card company Agree with the other people that the sauna is not hot either. If I didn't need pool access for awhile due to physical limitations, there's absolutely no way this is worth the value of $99 a month versus going to blink fitness.
