Vegetarian Lunch
Lisa W.

First of all I want to appreciate the Great idea behind InStock: Using Food which would be thrown away to create new and fancy meals. As this Sweet Story isn't all, the Food was really delicious. I had a vegetarian lunch menu, which was all 3 courses on one plate: soup as starter, Chips, Omelette, coquette, salad and 2 different Gelees to dip as main course and a straticulate Dessert! Yummie! Only negative Point is, that the dish was rather small, so not everyone was sated. Staff was really friendly altough we were a big Group of about 30 people which could have been annoying. They also Have a beautiful and large terrace to sit outside! Spread your Great idea and I hope to see a InStock Restaurant in Germany someday!

Ate at this amazing Resto - the concept is they go to a grocers in the morning and rescuing food that would be otherwise be thrown out and wasted.... It's magical ~ they make a 4 course pre fix menu out of the rescued food - breakfast lunch and dinner ~ It was amazing! Gazpacho to start. Beef money bags second course. Courgette & Aubergine lightly breaded and fried for the main. Followed by Tropical Cake with ice cream to finish. Wine pairing was on-point. Patio amazing. The owner was so hospitable and lovely, decor light and airy. I love the concept and the attention to sustainability. If you go to Amsterdam you MUST go here!

Quality of the dishes and creativity of the chefs is very impressive! By upcycling surplus foods you also battle food waste!

Pregnant women often get cravings. This is science, nothing new. Well my craving was for pancakes,…read morefluffy, buttermilk, syrup dripping all down the sides--pancakes. I never crave them in the states, but in Amsterdam the craving became a beast I had to reckon with. All of the restaurants that advertise "pancakes" are actually serving what Americans call crepes. I was disappointed until we stumbled upon Toast It! It's freaking adorable, first off, the interior decor with mint striped seats and 50's neon signs are begging to be photographed. The food was pictured-worthy too. I regret not getting the milkshake after seeing the pictures all over their Instagram page. Of course, I ordered the pancakes, which come with sliced bananas, strawberries and blueberries on top. The pancakes were exactly what I have been looking for. A stack of three thick, fluffy pancakes, crispy on the edges and melt-in-your-mouth soft in the middle. I got a side of bacon too because ya know, protein. This stop is a must if you're craving toasties or pancakes, any time of day.

It does feel like you are in an American diner based on theme and menu. The toasties are very good! Thick sourdough bread, chipotle mayo (with the Philly Toasti) and cheese are lekker. The lack of fries and sides on the menu along with the size of restaurant is what keeps me from rating higher. I have to go back to try the milkshakes and pancakes, because they look very good!

I went to Drovers Dog today to be the first one to write about it on Yelp ;) and I read about it…read morelast week and of course, not unimportant, because I was hungry. Drovers Dog has opened very recently and I think it is nice that Amsterdam Oost is getting more cool spots lately. I think there used to be a shortage of nice places to hang out in Oost, but it is getting better. I also love that the brunch culture is getting more popular in Amsterdam these days! Drovers Dog looks very cool and gezellig. There is a lot of natural light thanks to the big windows, the bar and furniture are made of wood and there are little plants on the tables. Outside is quite a big terrace. I love the all day breakfast concept and it is very cool that this place is opened 'till 10 PM. After having a look at their menu I went to the bar to order my things. Unfortunately they told me that it was so busy that they were way behind on their orders and that they would take no orders for the next 20 minutes and that they were very sorry. We could order our drinks now and our food in 20 minutes.. Okay, well. That's okay, we were in no hurry. We ordered a banana chocolate smoothie and a strawberry and rose ice tea. The smoothie was very nice but the ice tea absolutely lacked flavour and was watery. I do not recommend it. After waiting 25 minutes I asked if it was possible to order our food. They told me that sadly I could only order wraps because they were out on the other food. (they were out on pastries as well.) I was quite disappointed because I had set my mind on the corn fritters but ok, lets have a wrap then. We ordered a Serrano ham wrap and I choose the spicy mayonnaise to go with it and a grilled chicken wrap with hummus. I also ordered a flat white. So.. it was 1.30PM and they were already out of food. That's not really good in your opening weekend, after being featured in 'Het Parool', right? The flat white was really nice. Great coffee. The wraps weren't very special though. It tasted alright I guess but I expected a lot more of this. It also was my only option. When we came in there were people eating corn fritters, burgers, eggs benedict...and all I got was a not-so-special wrap?? mehhh. The experience was not as pleasant as I expected. It all seemed very unprofessional. The waitress was constantly searching for the right tables, service was very slow, we had to wait long and they were out of almost everything, Hopefully these were all beginners problems. I will go back in a few months to see if they have improved,. I want to be positive here! I do think this place has potential so that's why I give 3 stars.

Cozy spot for Italian and kid friendly but not a spot run over by children! Big difference ya know…read more;) the chef came out and translated the Dutch menu for me which was incredibly kind. The wine is good and inexpensive. The cocktail list looks great and the linguine carbonara was delicious!!!! The chef made my son a simple yet also delicious spaghetti (not on the menu) which he loved and I thought was very awesome for him to do for us. I'd like to return and try the pizzas next. They look amazing and smell incredible and are huge so definitely shareable. Update- I returned for the pizza tonight and wow! The margarita was a huge hit for my toddler who almost ate the whole thing!! I've never seen him eat so much! But the Buratta pizza with asparagus was my fave. Both were my favorite pizza found in Amsterdam thus far!!!

I found it! I found good pizza in Amsterdam! I found it!…read more They serve what they call in Chicago "Napoli style pizza", meaning it's a wood-burning-oven thin-crust pizza, theoretically from Naples, with nice charred bits on the bottom of the crust. I asked for extra sauce and cheese on my Margharita and Diavolo and they came out perfectly. I am not sure if they actually read my request for extra cheese and sauce on my delivery notes, but the Universe provided and it all turned out ok. The crust was crispy but not too dry, the ratio of toppings to crust was ideal, and all the toppings tasted nice and fresh. The only downside is they don't cut the pizza. Delivery was fast, but the guy didn't read any of my delivery notes to the driver explaining how to find my place. I guess he was in too much of a hurry? Also the tiramisu was transported in the insulated bag on top of the pizzas, so it melted a bit before it got here, and I'm sure the pizza also suffered a loss of heat as a result. I thought it was the driver's fault, but he blamed the restaurant. So at least he was good at covering his ass. The tiramisu had a weird texture to the non-cookie part, a little spongy, almost like they used some cream cheese in the marscapone layer, and it also was a little tangy, like they used some yogurt too. I didn't taste any alcohol, and the flavors were pretty simple. It was ok, but definitely not worth the price, since it costs almost as much as a delicious delicious pizza. I'll definitely order from them again, until they mysteriously disappear like so many Amsterdam restaurants do, or ban me from ordering there anymore because I love them too much and spend too much time camped out front in their proverbial bushes... that is if they had bushes in Amsterdam.

When I knew…read morethe Mr & I would be spending a weekend getaway in Amsterdam, I scoured around to see what our options would be & luckily I stumbled upon Marits Huiskamer Welcomed into her HOME on Fridays & Saturdays only, diners are treated to the most delicious, professionally prepared, locally-sourced, meal of vegetarian excellence. There are about maybe 8 tables ( can't remember exactly ) & some tables are communal in nature so if you have a small party, you may get an opportunity to make some new friends. The Mr & I had a solo table for ourselves but the cozy feel of the place made the environment warm & inviting Amuse of watermelon with feta & olives in cilantro Table bread was a lovely Green olive bread with organic teeny black olives Started w/ the yellow split pea soup with marscapone mousse & mustard seeds plus Dijon mixed in there - outstandingly savory & totally tasted like there was a bit of curry! Ravioli & talllegio w/ kelp sauce. No taste of sea grass but lots of peas & pea pods & ravioli was stuffed with peas too & cheese. Super! Fennel tart with tomatoes. Roasted potato & shaved carrot & seaweed. Beet carpaccio with goat cheese & honey. Yellow cucumber salad w edible flowers. Loved how all the dishes complimented each other Desserts included - white chocolate mousse w/ hint of wasabi in strawberry sauce for the Mr. He totally loved the spicy wasabi afterkick to the smooth sweet chocolate Plum Clafoutis w vanilla ice cream - sweet plums in a flaky crust was warm & gooey & delicious comfort food Bottle of Rioja wine to wash it all down - full bodied & smooth taste with a hint of tart to compliment the cheese This restaurant was such a wonderful find & we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a super gourmet meal & a unique dining Amsterdam experience

They were extremely apologetic when they mistakenly served me a burger with mayo after I explained I was allergic to eggs. Maybe I've grown accustomed to the "modest" level of service in Amsterdam but the responsiveness of this staff to this mistake was beyond what I expected. The burger though was just ok. Too salty. Overdone for my taste. The bun was odd and chewy. I did like the tomato relish they used as a replacement for mayo. The fries were not special. My fellow diner complained at how literal the goat cheese salad was. Mixed greens with a bunch of goat cheese. Not much else. My recommendation...go for a drink. Check it out. Really the design of the interior is worth a stop. Take a risk with the menu and maybe you'll find something you'll like.

I tried some ham and cheese baguette and I think there's cheese was much thicker than the ham but I would definitely like more ham. In general this place has the carousel as the main attraction - it sort of reminds me of a cheaper version of Disney. Looks kind of touristy and old school. There's lots of seating and I think the host wasn't really there to seat us but there was a wait to be seated sign. We took a booth by the window. The service was extremely slow and the workers are definitely understaffed here and I don't understand why because there's outside and inside seating and there were only two workers for over 30/40 tables. The Dutch pancakes were the best thing on the menu but I think they just taste like hot cakes with sugar on top- so I didn't find anything super special to ever come back here again.

You see we had the good fortune of befriending Senna who volunteered to serve (in his words) as our "tour guide & waiter." When Senna asked if Dana preferred sweet or savory, she replied (in brilliant fashion), "How about both?" This prompted his face to light up as he told us he had the perfect recommendations. Following his lead we ordered the "Bacon, Apple, and Butter" Pannenkoeken and the "Mixed Fruit and Whipped Cream" Poffertjes. What's amazing to me is that about half way through our meal I noticed that the bottle of syrup on the table hadn't been touched (or even considered). I mean, how could syrup possibly enhance such a wonderful compliment of flavors? No, its inclusion simply wouldn't be tolerated! If you want to blaze your own trail at "De Carrousel" they offer more than 50 options to choose from and I'd recommend sharing a combination of pannenkoeken and poffertjes amongst your party. Be sure to make time to wander around the restaurant a bit. Not only are the center carrousel horses a unique touch, but the kitchen's close proximity to the dining area can make you feel as if you have a role in the preparation of the pannenkoeken and poffertjes! True to his word, Senna provided us with a handwritten, two-sided, list of recommendations that he divided into the categories of "Culture", "Restaurants", and "Date Night." And that's...Henry's Take. #pannenkoeken #poffertjes #dutchhospitality
