I like the selection, good prices, and truly qualified people working the floor in plumbing, electrical, and paints. Note that you have to go to the very back of the store to visit the "Service Desk" to buy things like lumber and drywall ... then you have to pick it up out back. This takes more time than Lowes or Home Depot, which is kind of annoying, but I find I get better and more diverse choices at Menards. If you want big brand tools like Dewalt or Milwaukee you'll probably not find them at Menards. The tools are more basic for sure. Still, a good hardware store.

For me their process seemed very quick and very efficient, and the patience, kindness and friendliness from them and their staff was just heartfelt. They are a company I treasure and will recommend to everyone. I bought motorized shades for two sliding doors that were a major splurge for me, but they have proven to be well worth every penny I spent. I highly recommend them. They have so many beautiful drapery options to choose from, but when Le Ann came to my home with samples to do measurements, that helped me visualize the end result and I knew exactly what I wanted. I also found the perfect rug in their studio for my new space that just makes this place my own. I could not be happier. I cannot wait to work with them on two other windows I need to outfit to make those spaces just perfect. Thank you friends.

Her pricing was as competitive--in fact more competitive--than the The Blind Man and Sungard. She came to our home for measurements, and was just a lovely person to meet. Her husband, Roy, did the installation, and was just as wonderful. Roy voluntarily fixed a lot of existing Hunter Douglas blinds left here by the previous owners. He was sincere and obviously loved his job. They were both a joy to deal with, and I will be back at their store for more blinds. This type of personalized service is rare.

What's here: this is a good place for handy people who don't mind doing a little work. It's not a convenience solution. The operating organization is the Preservation and Conservation Association, and the items for (very affordable) sale are largely historical or quite vintage. When I passed through they had light fixtures, doors, what sure seemed to be a Philco BC-221-N Vintage Radio Frequency Meter, door locks with keys, school lockers, etc etc. As another reviewer noted, the doors are all labeled with measurements and organized so you don't have to fish things out unnecessarily. Staff is super friendly and helpful, I bought a project and the staff made sure I knew what I was getting in for. There is a little museum section in the back of the store with historical items on display and they have some books for in-store use on topics like making a home more elder-friendly and dealing with vintage hardware. Community health: when we went, the doors were open for cross ventilation and half the staff were masking (note, I knocked a star off bc community spread is high right now and everyone, regardless of vaccination status, should be masking indoors).

It's all salvaged, so you don't find anything shiny and new but you'll find things that have character and are worn down - which seems to be totally in right now! This is a great place for art students looking for inspiration or random materials, theatre companies looking for set pieces, or anyone interested in doing some random building. Prices were hard to find. Not everything had a price and I didn't want to bring every piece up to the counter to check it. There's no way of knowing whether the piece you're buying is in working order or not (e.g. electrical pieces). It's a fun place to wander around in and see what they have, but didn't have anything worth my money this time around.

I am very upset with the service that I am receiving from The Blind Man. One month ago July 19th I…read morecontacted The Blind Man about my motorized blinds were not working. The repair guy came to my home July 21st to troubleshoot the problem. He said he would have to take the blinds to the shop to figure out the problem and get back with me. It's been just about a month since they had the blinds. I haven't been able to get a response from them when I can get my blinds back repaired. I am getting ghosted by the staff. Tim told me one thing, then the receptionist told me another thing. This round about is unacceptable. Now they have a recording on the phone that says they will get back with me and they have a sign on the door saying they are closed working out on service calls. I have left messages on the phone and the message says they will call me back. These blinds were expensive plus they are for my bedroom. I am very sorry for what they are going through but this type of business behavior is unprofessional. I'm upset. I have to pray and let God know my heart.

I'm sad to say that The Blind Man has become a 1 star company. After two successful Hunter Douglas…read moreshade purchases and installs with Tim over the years, I didn't hesitate working with them on a custom Roman shade order. Their son, Ben, helped me find a near perfect fabric match to my curtains, and we were all set to go. However, once the product arrived (5/11/25), the experience went downhill quickly. The new shades look nothing like our previous Roman shades, which were only replaced because after 25 years they no longer were able to go up or down efficiently. The newly installed ones are not tidy or crisp when pulled up or down like our previous Roman shades, even though The Blind Man had them and photos as a reference. Before ordering, I asked to see a sample of what my shades would look like when finished. I was told that because it was a custom order they did not have any samples or even photos to show me. Therefore, I took it on faith that since they had both my shades and photos of them the end result would look like my current shades. Unfortunately, the final product did not remotely resemble my current Roman shades. When they are in the down position, they just hang there like a bedsheet. Each shade also appears to have excess fabric that creates large Vs on both sides of the shade. The craftsmanship of these shades make them something I do NOT want to look at for the next 20 years. Because of my immediate disappointment, on May 13th, my husband contacted The Blind Man via e-mail to find out what could be done. Janie, the consultant/designer, was immediately on it, which we appreciated. However, after her meeting on May 15th with the workroom representative and owner, the owner has been ghosting us under the guise of trying to figure out what to do. We should have had a resolution by May 16th at the latest. It's been almost three weeks now since we started e-mailing and stopping in to find out about these poor quality shades. At this point, we would just like the shades removed and our money returned. I would NOT recommend working with this company if you need custom shades or draperies. Their final product does NOT meet expectations, and the owner's communication with customers is subpar. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I will continue to update this review to note how long it takes them to resolve this issue to our mutual satisfaction.

I found a granite pattern that I liked in August, and I was sent to Carstin Brands in Arthur, IL to pick out a slab. Upon arriving in Authur, I was told that I can't pick out slab there as it was the fabrication warehouse, and I needed to go to Schaumburg to the showroom. An hour drive each way to Arthur resulted in a wasted day. I went to Schaumburg and picked out my slab, no issues there. The slab was installed at the end of August. The installers from Carstin (the fabricator) were professional and timely. Immediately after installation, I noticed several spots that were chipped or filled with a rough, gray putty-like substance. I contacted Lindsay to rectify the issue, and she attempted to facilitate a solution with Carstin. Fast forward to November, the spots still had not been fixed, and I had made several attempts to contact Carstin with no return call- and the answer from Hampton's repeatedly was that "billing has been made aware" so that we would not be responsible for the balance until the spots were corrected. Carstin finally came out to fix the spots after I stated that I would not be recommending Hampton's or Carstin based on this experience. I waited to pay the balance until a new statement was issued, just in case we were charged for the repairs. Sure enough, I just received the statement and we were charged for the repairs!! I have made several attempts to contact Hampton's and stated that we will not pay for the repairs charged, with no return correspondence. This company clearly does not stand by their work, and I will not recommend them to anyone. I love my countertops, but I am very disappointment with this experience.
