The exterior was wood siding. The wood had not been painted for years and was clearly very distressed. Shaw's with the help of its paint supplier figured out what specialty paint was needed for those parts of the siding that were the worst. In addition, Shaw's had a team of carpenters who re-sided a portion of the house in preparation for the final painting. Great job. The second job was for an out-of-town rental home. Along with the painting, Shaw's refinished some walls and even lined me up with a glass repair business that helped replace crack windows and mirrors. The third job, just completed, was another rental home where a tenant, without my permission of course, painted a bedroom a Kelly green with some stream of consciousness graffiti for a bit more flair. Shaw's hung in there and after about a dozen coats of paint and a modification of the neutral paint color, eliminated the putrid green paint. Reliable, fast, good-humored and determined to have an excellent result. I definitely recommend Shaw's.

Bad company. Bad Communication. Stay Away!…read more I had an estimate scheduled for 8 AM on October 10, 2022, and no one showed. I called at 8:10 AM with no answer so I left them a voicemail. I called them again on October 13, 2022, to just clarify and get things straight as I did not want to leave a bad review. An hour after I left the voicemail, I receive a call from the owner (Brett Shaw). He began talking to me very aggressively. He proceeds to tell me that he thought my inquiry was a joke which is why he never responded to my messages or showed up. My request was for trim work and baseboards to be painted in my bathrooms but also stated that if this project is too small that other jobs could be done as well. As a consumer, it is not my job to know the expenses or the prices of this company. I was looking for an estimate while trying to support a local company. Brett has since responded to my review on Google calling me a scam and a liar. I do not appreciate his actions or business practices. Overall, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and even put on my Google review "Would love for them to get in touch so I can change my review and support a local business". Cannot encourage customers enough to stay away from this company.

I have worked with Flooring Surfaces on multiple jobs in the last 3 years…read more First experience was on carpet replacement for a fraternity on U of I campus. Worked with Lynn who is now retired. She was helpful in making an appropriate material selection and was flexible in scheduling installation. Installation crew worked efficiently and cleanly removing old carpet and adding new. They took extra care to level out seams in our sub-floor that caused us issues with the old carpet. 2nd job was on a bathroom floor tile installation a year later in the same building. Worked with Callen and Kai to discuss the water proofing details to solve our water issues outside of the shower stalls. They listened to specific design requests I had and implemented them exactly as we agreed. Installation was very clean and professional and solved our water issues completely. 3rd job was a DIY tile project on two bathrooms. I had priced subway tile and wood plank porcelain at other tile providers around town, including the big box stores, but Flooring Surfaces offered better pricing than other pro stores and had much better selection and quality than the big box stores. They also offer great value in being a Schluter systems dealer for water proofing and metal edge profiles. I was able to purchase thinset and necessary Schluter materials directly from them with the tile.

After the hail storm we had earlier this fall, I called Crown Exteriors to come check out our roof…read more They came out the next day, worked quickly with our insurance company, and we had a new roof just a couple of weeks later. The roofers got the whole thing done in a day, and Dillon came by afterwards to make sure everything was done to their high standards. He even went around extra times to make sure nails weren't left behind, since we have young kids playing in the yard. Additionally, we are getting solar panels on the roof, and Crown has worked with our solar company to make sure everything was ready for that installation, too. I can't recommend Crown highly enough!

My husband and I needed the windows and two sliding mg glass doors replaced in our home. We met…read morewith with a representative (Colton) in February 2024. While we were looking at other businesses, we greatly appreciated Colton's knowledge. We also wanted to support a local business, and we were impressed that they did their own work rather than hire contractors. In the end, we decided to go with Crown Exteriors. We asked about the timeline, and we were told that once they measured and placed the window order, we would have windows by mid-May at the latest. We received a text letting us know that the windows showed up May 2nd, and Colton told us that they'd schedule us after their carpenter caught up on a few things. After that, any communication was initiated by me. I reached out on 5/22/24, 1/19/24, and 8/5/24. Colton responded each time, but it was unnerving to have to reach out so often because we weren't given any updates. Finally, at the end of August 2024, I received a call from Colton asking if we wanted the windows installed the next day (8/29). Because we'd waited so long, we agreed. The next day, contractors showed up, which upset us because we had hoped to have someone on staff do the installation. The install went as smoothly as it could go, and it took about three days. However, two days after the windows were installed we noticed some issues. First, they installed our doors the wrong way, flipping the handle from the right to the left side of the door. Thats minor, but we were confused as to why they'd make the change. Next, the sliding glass doors accumulated water at the bottom. Outside water accumulation makes sense, but there shouldn't have been water on the inside. Lastly, a couple windows wouldn't open, and we couldn't figure out why. We contacted Colton, and he said he'd need to circle back to the contractors to look at it. This response was given on September 9th. Since then, we've called Colton (who let us know he didn't work there anymore and gave us the owner's contact information), the owner, and the business number on the website. We've left messages as well. We have yet to be contacted. The install was approximately $20,000, and we are not a super well-off family, so we really counted on this to be done well. And yet, we've been ignored and left with broken windows. I didn't want to leave this review because I'd hoped to work it out with them, but I'm hoping that they might be more willing to talk to us with this review posted.

After reading through the other horrible reviews, I have to say, they are 100% accurate!…read more Everything before install was fantastic. A 2 day install turned into 2 weeks with lots of no shows from the installer and an extra $1,400 in cash given to him for things he claimed were extra. Getting ahold of the owner was not easy but once we did get ahold of him, he did apologize and seemed like he was going to make sure everything was made right. He took $700 off our final bill. Once the installer was done, we had to call to ask about getting all the cabinets adjusted aka straight. They did come out and do that. After about a week, we noticed the pull out trash can was hitting the pantry door next to it. Luther sent a guy out to "fix" it. The "fix" worked for another couple weeks until it gave and started hitting again. Then it l came off the track. We obviously haven't been able to use it since (so after just a few weeks). You can see in the picture below that it's crooked. Getting ahold of them was extremely difficult but when we did, Luther told us it sounded like a spacer wasn't installed between the two. We kept hearing they would get back to us. Eventually they stopped answering our calls. Before the holidays, months after the issue and not being able to use the trash can, my husband got the idea to call from his work phone. They of course answered, not knowing it was him and told him they were looking into a solution. Again, we were ghosted for months. My husband stopped in last week to give them another chance to make this right and Luther Falls was far from professional and wanted nothing to do with working towards a solution. He called my husband awful names and told him to "F our cabinets," while walking away from him to avoid a conversation. I then made a Facebook post to let all my friends and family know about our situation and the terrible treatment we had received. Luther commented saying we were liars and that we broke it and didn't notify them until 6 months later. Obviously that is not the case. We are honest, hard working people who tried to give a company chance after chance to make it right. We never dreamed that we would be treated this way. We've remodeled 3 homes now and never had any issues with anyone we've worked with! Also, we aren't 100% sure our bottom cabinets are even the color we ordered. We picked charcoal grey and our receipt says that but these are navy blue. We never even had the chance to bring this up to the company because it's been the least of our worries.

I hired Kong Crete to resurface my driveway, walkway, and front landing. The driveway was in decent…read moreshape to begin with -- a few cracks, some chips, and an uneven walkway panel -- so this was more of a preventative/curb appeal investment than a major repair. I chose Kong Crete based on their strong Google reviews and Jonas was friendly and knowledgeable during our initial phone call. The base quote came in at $1,967 for the resurfacing with a standard broom finish. I added a brown water-based dye for an extra $250 to help the concrete blend with the neighborhood rather than look like fresh gray construction, bringing the total to $2,217. The contract required a $750 deposit to get on the calendar, with the remainder split across payments before, during, and the day after the work. Worth noting -- credit card payments carry a 3.4% fee and the contract includes no warranty of any kind. What went well: The driveway does look noticeably better overall. The resurfacing gave it a cleaner, more uniform appearance and the broom finish looks good. Jonas was responsive during the quoting and contract phase, and the work itself was completed on schedule in about a day and a half. He also offered some unsolicited but helpful advice about maintaining my rear patio, which I appreciated. To his credit, when I asked him upfront whether resurfacing was a smart investment or if I should save for a full repour, he was straightforward in recommending the resurfacing -- I appreciated that honesty during the sales process. Where expectations weren't met: My main frustration is that several pre-existing defects I was hoping the resurfacing would address are still visible -- small chips, a persistent crack on the landing, and an untouched garage threshold that I thought was included in the scope. The leveled walkway panel has a noticeably uneven surface texture. There's also a significant color mismatch between the landing and the driveway/walkway, which was surprising since both were resurfaced at the same time. Jonas had warned me the resurfacing wouldn't perfectly match the surrounding sidewalk, which I understood, but I didn't expect the resurfaced surfaces themselves to look so different from each other -- especially after paying extra for the coloring. When I raised these concerns, Jonas explained why each issue was either expected or outside the agreed scope rather than offering to address any of them. I'll take some responsibility -- I should have been more explicit upfront about the garage threshold and the landing crack. But as a homeowner paying over $2,200, I was hoping a professional would proactively address visible eyesores that were clearly within arm's reach of the work being done. Communication: There was about a month between paying my deposit and the work being scheduled, which I understood due to personal circumstances. A quick status update during that time would have been appreciated though. After the work was done and I expressed my concerns, the focus shifted quickly to collecting the final payment -- I received multiple invoice reminders within hours on a Saturday while I was at work. It left me feeling like getting paid was the priority, not customer satisfaction. Bottom line for future customers: If your concrete is in rough shape, this resurfacing will be a solid improvement and you'll probably be thrilled with the result. But if your driveway is in relatively good condition and you're hoping to take it from a B to an A, set your expectations carefully. Have a very detailed conversation upfront about exactly what will and won't be addressed -- don't assume anything will be taken care of proactively. There is no warranty included, so what you see is what you get. The work is decent, but I wouldn't describe the experience as one where the contractor went above and beyond to make sure I was happy.
