But this Sweet Frog Pemium Frozen Yogurt located at 1339 Towne Square Blvd in Roanoke, Virginia was one of the best, if not the best, Frozen Yogurt places that I have ever been. I was very much impressed by the amazing interior design and decor of the store, by the extraordinary selection of Yogurt flavors, by the huge variety of toppings available, and most of all, by the friendly and welcoming customer service. When I arrived a young lady employee greeted me with a big welcoming smile and asked if this was my first time visiting the store. When I answered in the affirmative, she took me for a tour of the store that also explained how the Yogurt is served by you in any of the different size of bowls. You then could ask for any of the toppings which the employee will serve with plastic gloves on. And finally, they weigh your cup of icecream and you are charged by the pound. Then you pay and take your cup to one of the white tables in the colorful dining area, where you can amazingly enjoy as you share some quality time with your family and friends. While I was there, many customers visited the place, a father and son, a mother and daughter, and a young group of 4 young girls, among others. One could clearly see that this small local business was very much loved in this community. Definitely, I highly recommend this Premium Frozen Yogurt parlor to all. In a cute, little, Hispanic family-owned business off Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia, I discovered this dessert shop named "La Michoacana." Followed by the slogan "El Autentico Sabor a Mexico." (The Authentic Flavor of Mexico). And to my surprise it was like finding the gold pot at the end of the rainbow. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And La Michoacana in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. First of all, I wondered, why this name? What does it mean? "Michoacana is a lady who comes from Michoacan", the owner of the business told me. "I am a Michoacana." "I was born in Michuacan.," she continued. What is the significance of naming this business this name besides being that the owner comes from this state in Mexico? I did my research and found that Michuacan, is a state in west-central Mexico, known for its rich indigenous culture and the world's largest avocado producer. It is often called "The Soul of Mexico" due to its deep cultural heritage and vibrant traditions. The state is also famous for its carnitas, a dish of pork slow-cooked in lard; and is known as the "carnitas capital of the world." Michuacan is also considered the birthplace of paletas (Mexican popsicles). And these "paletas" imported from Mexico, together with Mexican "nieve," which is the word used in Mexico for helado or ice cream are two of the main products sold here, together with creative fruit snacks. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review for seeing is believing, and for an ice cream and dessert shop to be in business for almost 10 years now their products must be good. And I can tell you they are for I tasted them myself. As soon as I arrived, I parked my car in one of only three parking spaces in front of the store. Later I found out by the owners that they have more parking in the back of the store. A friendly lady who was the original founder and owner of the store and for whom the store was named, gave me a warm welcome after I greeted her in Spanish. Her husband of 5 years, whom she met at the store, was also there working and welcomed me. The store used to be smaller but after they married, the husband helped expand it. Many of us are familiar with American and Italian Ice Cream. I am also familiar with Caribbean Ice Cream made originally by Cuban-Chinese who afterwards moved to Puerto Rico and established their Ice cream shops there and were well known by their Creamy Tropical fruits Ice Creams such as Mango, Mamey, Guanabana, Coco, and Piña, among others. Mexican Ice cream is also unique in its very own way. I ordered a Bionico which was fresh fruits cut in pieces with a special sweet cream and granola on top. I also tried their Mango nieve (ice cream), and a Mango paleta (popsicle). They were very flavorful and with pieces of the fruit inside. I definitely highly recommend this dessert place when you feel like eating something sweet and refreshing. I found out that soon they are thinking of having crepes as well. I definitely will be returning soon for some more sweet treats and enjoyable conversation with these very pleasant couple.
