Traditional Pilates is a low energy class but Reformer Pilates is different. The total body burn is a fast-paced class that moves from one position to the next and works your full body. The class is done on a Reformer machine which has resistance bands incorporated on it for lengthening your arms and legs and building core muscles. As written on the Studio One Pilates website, "Reformer Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout using a specialized machine (the Reformer) to enhance core strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination through precise movements and mindful breathing." Before we started the instructor did a little crash course on what the reformer was and parts we'll be using and needed to know! I took a classic Pilates class (again because it was my first time) - perfect for a beginner, I could follow and understand what was happening and what to do, yet it was still challenging enough to where I felt a pretty good workout!! (Don't forget your grippy socks!!! If you do though, they sell some in store!!) They do have their prices posted on their app, but here are a few: - First timer $35 for 2 classes - Drop in class $35 Monthly Memberships: - $115 for 4 classes - $164 for 6 classes - $215 for 8 classes - $255 for 10 classes - $355 for 31classes (Basically the more you buy the cheaper the classes are!!) I found out about Studio ONE Pilates from a fellow Yelper, Gillian S. I used a buy one class, get one free deal ($35) which is available for new clients. REFORMER PILATES -- They offer Elite Reformer Pilates classes which is Pilates on the Reformer machine. The class that I took is called "Reformer Pilates -- Total Body Burn" and it was with the lead instructor, Grace. The class was amazing and slightly intense because you lengthen your body while taking, slow and controlled movements. Your arms, legs, and especially CORE is worked throughout the class. The Reformer machine has resistance bands on it which provide for a tougher class because they are similar to using weights. Grace is such a good teacher and I can't wait to take her class again. AMBIANCE -- The studio is simple and clean. The neural colours make the space inviting plus it is nice too. SERVICE -- Friendly customer service. Once you arrive, you will check-in at the front desk. Grace helped me check-in and explained a few things that I needed to know about the reformer machine. I've long been interested in trying out a yoga class and the beginner's workshop was the perfect way to start out. Most times I was too afraid to book a class elsewhere because all the hardcore yogis would be flowing through moves and I'd be huffing and puffing on my mat unable to figure out what was going on. That was so not the case here. Our yoga instructor, Erica (and owner of the biz), was friendly, welcoming, and helpful the entire class. We were led through a series of moves all leading up to being able to put together a sun salutation A. With Vinyasa each move "flows" through to the next and builds off of some basic poses. Per the YogaFlow website, Vinyasa yoga is a strong, athletic style of yoga that links movement to your breath. The focus on breathing was more relaxing than I had anticipated. I left class feeling both energized and calm. It was wonderful. The beginner's workshop lasted the full two hours but it felt like no time at all. Very much looking forward to my next class. Some notes: -Bring your own mat, water, and a towel. -They provide yoga props (blankets, blocks). -To get to the studio enter the building at 5320 Hoag Drive (park behind the building), enter Dr. Michael Seng's office and turn right, then head up the stairs to the loft. -Try not to eat before class (you probably wouldn't feel so great if you do). -Don't wear super loose baggy clothes, they will get in the way. -Various level classes are available throughout the week, check the website for details.

If you work in the building then you should have free access to use the gym, if it's still there. After easily reserving a time slot (also online), I drove to the studio and I missed it on the first pass. Why? Because the studio is also a chiropractor's office, and the Yoga Trends sign is not visible from the street. Initially, I was concerned. But then I went in and saw a bunch of crazy machines and a handful of people who all had smiles on their faces and I knew it was going to be great. And, as usual, I was right. The studio is in a doctor's office because the class instructor, Dr. Barry, is also a chiropractor. He and his wife actually invented this particular Pilates method; she studied under a yogi in India and is also an instructor. My classmates and I spent an hour pushing, pulling, bending and flexing our way through a set of challenging (but not ridiculously hard) moves. Dr. Barry thoroughly explained every position, went through the motions with us and gently corrected us as needed along the way. With such a small class (they are specifically kept under 10 people, I think), the instructor was able to give each participant some personal attention. I definitely "felt the burn" the next day, so I know it's working. I cannot recommend this studio highly enough. Go forth, exercise and have fun.
