University Heights Dental - Table provided to me by UHD explaining why I needed 18 X-rays, despite me not having any of the type of encounter conditions listed.

Dr. Fixler has created a practice that appears to prioritize generating income over providing…read moreevidence-based dental care. I switched to this practice due to a change in my insurance coverage, having recently had a dental exam and X-rays just six months prior. These images were provided to UHD. At my initial visit, before even receiving an exam, I was told I would need 18 bitewing X-rays to create a full-mouth panorama. As a medical physician, I questioned the necessity of this, especially given that recent X-rays were already available. When I asked whether I could opt for the standard molar bitewings instead, the hygienist became visibly frustrated. It seemed clear he was accustomed to patients questioning this practice and annoyed by it. An associate dentist then came in to explain that the full set of X-rays was necessary so she could assess my bone structure and check for oral cancer. I explained that I am a physician and that this is not the standard method for oral cancer screening. She then claimed that this was the "standard of care." When I asked her to show me the ADA guidelines to support this, she brought back a chart that applied to patients with periodontal disease or dentofacial abnormalities--neither of which apply to me. After reviewing the actual ADA guidelines myself (see screenshot from this article: https://jada.ada.org/article/S0002-8177(23)00734-1/fulltext), it's clear that requiring 18 X-rays in this context is not evidence-based. I shared this with her, and she then suggested we "dissolve the relationship" and that I seek dental care elsewhere. If you are looking for evidence-based care, compassionate professionals, and a practice that respects patient autonomy while avoiding unnecessary costs, I strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere.

My hygienist Steve is skilled, thorough, and professional. The doctors are efficient and pleasant. And the technology they've invested in made the crown replacement a 1-hour process from start to finish. I'm a happy patient!

The office waiting area is full of sports memorabilia. It's awesome and really takes your mind off of where you are. We were seen at our scheduled time without delay. Everyone on the staff was sincerely friendly. Once we completed the assessment, the Dr explained everything thoroughly and simply. We were able to schedule our first appointment on a Saturday, which really helps to avoid taking so much time off from school. I'm do glad we found this practice and can easily see why others have ranked them high.

Dr. Lawrences non-surgical approach to treating TMJ has been my only saving grace for the last 10 years. Twice now I have returned to Dr. Lawrence to obtain new splints for my jaw. Not only has he always been extremely personable, but he is the only person I trust to treat my jaw/mouth longterm. I am forever grateful for him. His office staff has ALWAYS been excellent and his office is one of my favorite places to visit (it is, and always has been the coolest Dr.'s office)

Full disclosure, I've known Emily through our book club long before she became my dentist once my…read moreprevious one retired. So I'll tell you two things about her practice that are not subjective. First of all, the various forms of payment she accepts are posted on a window in the waiting room, so you know before you see her what she'll take for payment. I took a photo of that window and have posted it here to Yelp. Second, when I saw her about a problem I was having with an old cap and root canal done by my former dentist, she took the time to sit next to me and drew on some scrap paper to illustrate what was going on with that tooth so I could follow along with her explanation. My former dentist didn't do that and I found this extra step very helpful. One more thing about Emily - her employees love her. My husband is a chatty guy and got to talking with the staff during his first appointment at Emily's office. He was told that she bought the practice from another dentist who retired (not the same guy I saw for 20 years) and they really like her better than the previous guy! I don't think they knew George and Emily were book club buddies, and the compliments were totally unsolicited.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Emily Weitz and her staff…read more.. I've known her for a while now, and after needing her help as a dentist, discovered that her dentistry skills are super impressive, as is her thoughtfulness, professionalism and ability. Her staff has these same qualities, and overall, for my part, I'm her patient for life. I recently had a dental emergency where I lost a whole crown. Dr. Weitz got me in fast, took stock of things and got me set up with a temporary crown and told me I'd have a new one inside of a week! Not only that, and this impressed me a lot, I got a numbing injection in my gum...and didn't even feel it! Now that, folks, is talent! As I said, not only is Dr. Weitz great, but so is her staff; they were kind, thoughtful and very helpful and skilled as well. (The lady who helped to shape my new temp tooth was really amazing and fast.) Overall, if you're looking for a great dentist who'll treat you as a person and listen to your concerns, then you'll get the tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth from Dr. Emily Weitz and Staff!!
