In fact she did so after driving 40 minutes to Red Barn because there was no running water at her winery. The result? We bought eight (8) bottles of delicious vino! It was a five-star experience. The staff at the front desk were friendly and accommodating, we asked for a couple wine glasses and he said they should be in your room before you get there. The only arrived a couple minutes later. We had a beautiful view of the city, it was all lit up for Christmas, just gorgeous. And a cute little balcony with a couple chairs and table. There was also black out blinds which I really appreciated. The climate control was great, and not too loud when it kicked on. The room was tidy and nicely laid out. The bathroom was great with a huge mirror lining one wall. The beds were a bit stiff, but not bad, lots of pillows to choose from and the sheets were alright, a bit loud when you moved but comfortable. One really nice perk was the complementary house coats in the room, that was a nice touch. Not sure if I would want to pay the summer prices for this room, but it was great for our price in the winter.

Best dinner of my life…read more I'm not joking, nor am I stretching the truth. It is absolutely clear that Cameron and Dana are committed to fresh & local food, both from their espoused personal philosophies as well as being evident in their choices of ingredients, preparations, etc. I could talk for ages about their Halibut cheek that was cooked so perfectly it didn't even taste like fish, or their lamb with garlic and roasted cumin that melted in your mouth, or the pork cheek terrine that married so beautifully with peas & sorrel...or even polenta, normally so bland and boring, that had fresh morels & pecorino in it, bringing a peasant dish to soaring heights. The dinner I had was for their Alfresco Winemaker Dinner Series at God's Mountain Estate. It was meant to celebrate Joie Farm's wine, and each course was paired with a wine - even that morning, Dana changed the menu as the miso she had originally done for the halibut didn't seem to mesh as well with the 'A Noble Blend' 2010 vintage we were drinking - this is how absolutely committed Joy Road Catering is to the tastes that their food and the chosen wine perpetuate. The best part? it is clear that not only they love the food, but Joy Road Catering actually cares about the people they employ and their guests. I was able to watch the set up of the dinner and their interactions with their staff, as well as enjoying their conversation later in the evening, and I would safely say that they would be a welcome addition to any event.

They do tasting flights, which is different than most wineries that do each wine individually and talk you through it. I prefer this more casual approach.
