If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We were there last night, a big group of us on the patio, for a birthday. What a horrible experience!!! They have a wing special so we decided to check it out, it took us over 1.45 hours to get our food- we're talking bar food, not gourmet meals. We had tons of people who ordered wings, 2 salads (that took that long, c'mon) and other stuff that shouldn't have taken almost 2 hours to get when we were the only table there. We ordered the fried shrimp, but they only had 1/2 lb at 6pm when they open at 5pm, this makes no sense. And when they came out, they were cold!! We complained, got a round of gross shots, and a discount on our bill but for the amount of time we sat and wasted, and on top of that getting horrible food, it was SO not worth it, especially with all the places around.. will never ever go back, don't waste your time. read more

Went here on a Monday and there were about 5 other people. We decided to get the $8 wing baskets and ended up waiting 45 minutes for our wings to finally come out. When they arrived they were simply average and slightly cold. The service was also generally slow for the amount of people inside. Additionally the 80s/90s theme wasn't bad but the music was so loud it was almost unbearable. Overall I wouldn't recommend it. Service was slow, food was average, and there's just a lot of better options in the city. read more

What I don't understand is why you would usher in a group of 10+ people (literally yelling to us across the street to come in) in to your bar at 1:15 am, then proceed to rudely dismiss them after they've bought multiple drinks within half an hour. Our group was waiting near the door for our Ubers (it's 2 am in Chicago in January), and the staff effectively "annoyed" us out by turning on a strobe light and playing with the levels of the music volume until we got out. The minute we stepped outside, the door was locked behind us. Any good will I had toward this bar is gone, and I will not be returning. read more

Honestly, when I walked in, I thought I had stepped into a nightmare. This place sucks as a bar. I mean sucks. It's an icky, icky chad/trixie haven with creepy bartenders and ass hole bouncers. We arrived at about 12 last night and it was like stepping into an alternate universe. Everyone was sloppy drunk (I mean sloppy) and guys were in full grope mode. Eww. I was touched inappropriately by several people within the first 10 minutes of being inside. The drinks are expensive and it took almost five full minutes to even be served because the bartender was hitting on a really icky drunk girl. Nice business. There's also a really creepy server who just kept looking at me when I was glaring at the bartender like she was pissed. She was really weird looking and really gave me the creeps. At some point I went outside to have a cigarette and the bouncer positioned himself in front of the door and said he wouldn't let me out until I gave him a cigarette. I flat out said no and then he got pissed. It was so weird - I kind of just thought he was joking at first but then he got really mad at me. He let my friend and I out and then a few minutes later came over to us again and kept asking for cigarettes. He turned in to a huge dick when I kept saying no and threatened to not let me back in if I didn't give him one. What?! So bizarre. The only redeeming qualities of this bar were the DJ and the movies on the many televisions. The DJ was playing some pretty awesome 80s music - I feel like if I had been more drunk I would have been more inclined to dance and sing like the rest of the drunk idiots in the bar. My friend asked him where else he spins so we can listen to his sweet sounds at a better bar. Ahhh, and those movies. The movies playing when we came in were ridiculous. "Caddyshack" and "Breakin." Yep, Breakin. You know, the amazing tale of kids from the street who pop and lock. I love that movie. And you know what they played when that movie was over? "Mr T's Be Somebody!" Yep, if you've never seen it, I highly suggest you acquire a VHS copy from the eBay. It is the most genius motivational video ever created in the history of the human race. And this bar played it. Overall, I would probably never, ever come back here. I cannot stand drunk, icky 30something balding chads who incessantly hit on every lady in a bar. And Innjoy is one of those places that is full of drunk, icky, 30something balding chads who walk by you and "brush up" against you even though they're obviously just trying to touch your ass. Oh, and the bouncer was a total jerk. I wouldn't come here if you want to maintain some kind of sanity. Go to Wrigleyville if you want this kind of experience - at least the bars are a bit more fun. read more

Let's polish up the review of the Diveinnjoy. At Diveinnjoy, chicks get whipped into a frenzy by the 80s music played in sync with the accompanying original videos. It's almost like a toned down Beatlemania, with a ton of dancing and just a little screaming. Hormones. The music, ecstatic dancing and alcohol combine to make Diveinnjoy quite the spectacle, a great people watching scene and a target rich environment if you're in your late 20s and up and so inclined. The DJ at Diveinnjoy has, um, sold out to epic proportions, but the crowd is quite grateful in response to their high school soundtrack on rewind. Think Ice Cube spinning Head Over Heels, Take On Me, Maria, Don't You Want Me Baby and other assorted stocking stuffers from the 80s. Over the top of these tunes, the DJ will attempt to whip the crowd into even more of a fruhzizzle by saying the following over the PA: "Who's up in this mutha trucka?"; Who's up in this sh*t?"; "Where's all muh mutha truckas inna house at?"; "Laydeeeez!"'; "Who's got a mutha truckin' berfday up in he-uh?"; and "Can I dance wit' cho date?" Okay, I made up the last one. It's a bit incongruous and disconcerting, but it doesn't detract from the scene. If you like 80s tunes, nostalgia and people watching, you'll like Diveinnjoy. Four stars. Addendum: I saw a dude at Innjoy at this visit who I recognized but couldn't place. I was just looking at a CS Magazine article and can report to you that I've now seen my second contestant of that completely fake, staged and misleadingly edited show known as The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I loved and hated InnJoy. It was 80's night and they played nothing but 80's tunes (some that I hadn't heard since the 80's!) and showed Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo on the TV's. Who doesn't love a boogaloo?!?! I do! I danced my ass off. LOVE. It was 8 meellion degrees inside. People were taking off their shirts! I had to put my hair up and lost all hope of looking cute since my make-up was sweating off. HATE. The bartender was really nice to me and gave me some great (strong) drinks, but I heard that he was really douchey to my friends. Uhm...LOVED and then HATED. It was too crowded inside. WAAY too crowded. Carol J. arranged for some tables reserved off to the side and that was cool. Well, well, well - Innjoy far exceeded my expectations. First of all, it's... well, it's kind of nice in here. I grabbed a high-table near the door to await my date. I had plenty of time to scope things out as said gentleman was twenty minutes late. Idiot. I digress... High-tables line the eastern side of Innjoy and there are plenty of large TVs should you care to watch the game. The beer selection was decent - a respectable selection of craft brews. In fact, the special for the night featured a midwestern microbrewery near & dear to my heart - $4 Bell's pints. Impressive food for a bar - I had the chicken, apple, and brie sandwich. Date-boy had... eh, I don't remember what date-boy had - I was too fixated on using the house-made chips to scrape every last delicious bit of melted brie from my plate. It's hard to go wrong with melted cheese - especially brie. Oh, and there was a table in the back by the bathrooms where they were doing manicures... yeah, I don't get it either. Perhaps it was just a special event for the evening, but Manicure-Lady was workin' hard, so I thought she deserved a shout-out. read more

Hey! Remember the 80s? Well I don't. At least not from personal experience. Sure I've pieced the time period together from vh1 specials, and movies like Hot Tub Time Machine, but I never quite realized how creepy this era was until I watched an hour of music videos at InnJoy. I'm not talking Safety Dance or Video Killed... Either. The stuff on the screens was pretty bizarre, but that's exactly why I had so much fun. I was too drunk recall any of the song names or even drinks they carried, but I did manage to leave a quick tip that reads "pretty creepy, but pretty awesome." Two experiences = solid four star rating. The first time I came here was just to grab a quick bite with my honey, and grab a few beers. I can't remember which night of the week it was, but there were half-price apps (get the blue cheese chips, for real) and I enjoyed a yummy pizza with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes. Wasn't crowded, so service was great. Second time was this past weekend as a stop for my pal's birthday party. Granted, one of our party-goers heard we were going to 80s night and she did the whole "Charlie Brown walk" to the bar, but the rest of us were stoked. $3 Coors Lights (not my beer of choice, but for $3, I can get on board), we were lucky enough to snag a table in the back. Breakin' 2 and Breakfast Club were on the TVs (frickin' awesome!) and they played some great tunes. We had the best dance party ever to Erasure and got Hungry Like a Wolf. And the Charlie Brown walker? She was bustin' a move, singin' along like no one's business. Beat it Charlie, we like 80s night. So, come for the food, it's really pretty good, come for the specials, and come for some serious 80s good time. I'll cut them some slack because the lovely Jenna R. and I came in at midnight on amateur night (St. Patty's day weekend), but it really wasn't great. When we walked in the bouncer not only asked for ID, he shined a flashlight into our purses. Weird, because we were going into a bar and not the United Center, but whatever. He wasn't the nicest guy, but he probably had a really long night of dealing with drunks, so again, I'll cut them some slack. The bar wasn't super crowded, but drinks took an really long time. I still don't think it's appropriate to charge $6 for a well cocktail, but such is the neighborhood, I guess. More slack. There were an abundance of super-drunk overgrown frat boys dancing to the '80's tunes supplied by the DJ. I enjoy '80's music, and maybe I was just trying to look for something good here, but I liked it. He wasn't the best or most creative DJ I've seen, but, like having a friend whose iPod contains most of the songs you like, it was a good time. So, one star for the DJ, and one star for showing "Breakin,'" "Caddyshack," and a Mr. T after-school special type video. I don't think I'll be back, but if we happen upon this place, maybe weeknights are better. read more

It's nothing special. Just a bar. They just so happen to have plasmas playing random videos. The night I was there, they were playing videos featuring Mr T.--I pity the fool! Oh yeah, they also had a "DJ" which was more of a "DJ Press Play" because he wasn't mixing anything, just playing various tracks with iTunes on his laptop. For the "DJ"'s sake, I hope they upgrade that "DJ booth" with some plexiglass to keep the drunks from spilling their drinks all over the booth and his gear! As for the crowd, it was diverse and there were plenty of drunks runnin around in there. I'm not hatin or complainin about them because they weren't being beligerent douchebags. I only mention them because they were entertaining to watch as they stumbled around and attempted to dance to their favorite jam. Good stuff. All night, every saturday night, a never ending stream of "OH I LOVE THIS SONG!" and just letting go and dancing like you just don't care anymore. Went back here for the first time in months to discover that: 1) the preferred back booths have been removed for "dance parties" 2) the menu, previously more extensive for a bar menu, is now condensed, 3) the food portions seems smaller for the price, or is it just me, and 4) there is no reason to recommend this place anymore based on the above in my mind. read more

We made a late night move to Innjoy after a while in the relative calm and stale basement aroma of Happy Village, and it was not a move that I was looking forward to. Happy Village is fun when the hipster turnout is low, and Innjoy had an outdoor line standing under an insufficient awning and sufficiently bad weather. At first glance indoors, it's not unlike any other meat market. There's a girl selling shitty beer out of a big tub by the door, the fire marshal's crowd capacity warnings have been ignored, and it's a bit loud. In fact, it might be one of the loudest bars I've ever been in. I think the bartenders are required to learn sign language, or at least read lips, because there's no way they could have heard me yelling my order from all of half a foot from their faces. Once your senses have adjusted, though, you can have fun here. There is a DJ playing a lot of fun 80s and 90s stuff, and the TVs show music videos of the songs he's spinning, not the same tired Sportscenter clips you've feigned interest in throughout your bar career. It's probably a hit or miss kind of place, but it worked for us that night. read more

Ahhh-mazing. I'm sorry but, amazing. I love Innjoy! It's become that staple "I want to hang out with some friends ... hear some ridiculously good music... and dance a bit" evening out. Fridays are 90's night and Saturdays are 80's night. Aside from the great music - they play videos of the era to match. I believe I once saw Kids Incorporated being played on a Saturday ... it really warmed my soul. Can't rate the food because after waiting an hour and 15 minutes for a pizza at 6 p.m. and being told multiple times that it was almost done, the bartender finally told us the oven was preheating. On top of that, he looked pissed when I told him to forget it, I'm not waiting another 30 minutes, as if to say "It's finally in the oven and NOW you're leaving, you prick?" For a Monday night, this was just right. $2.50 Miller Lites (eh), and 25 cent wings. We got there early and grabbed a corner table. Wings were tasty, and I especially liked the waffle fries. The service was slightly on the slow side, but only so much that I had a chance to actually think about the consequences of sucking down yet another freshman-level beer before nodding my consent. Great music -- it was like they'd somehow gotten ahold of my ipod and stolen all the Air/ Smashing Pumpkins/ Fiona Apple songs I have secretly stashed on a faves list. They had some fun art on the walls and multiple TVs showing all my faves: Xgames, hockey, and news. All at once. You wow 'em, you thrash 'em, then you talk shit to their nation. Innjoy..I wish I could come up with a clever pun to state how it's not really an 'in' place in any aspect and there is no joy to be had here... I feel like the 15 minutes I spent in this place was like going to a horrible frat/sorority mixer in college...or if I had gone to one, ever...this is what I pictured it to be like. Actually no, it's more so a reunion of the orange ladies and the overly muscular lads reliving college, all wearing the adult version of club clothes re: black / jeans with boots and or some kind of man loafers. However the black is quickly muted by the orangeness radiating from their leather- like skin. Wow, I'm really crabby today. But in retrospect, there is nothing enjoyable about Innjoy. The beer selection was really average, I didn't eat there, they have food? I'm not sure where one would eat as it was packed when I went...the service was slow and quite inattentive too... I was also fooled by the pretty sign, which gives it a comfy/dive vibe, which it doesn't really match up to once inside. read more

So this is just a seldom review about a particular visit I had here. Doesn't mean the place as a whole isn't better than 2 stars, but this night it was. So I went there on a Friday and sat at the patio. Seemed like there was only 1 waitress working for the whole building. Came up to us asked for drinks and saying the special was $4 Dos Equis tall and half off apps until 9pm. This threw me off since it was already 9:20ish. After she came back with the beers, I asked if the apps deal still worked. She still gave it to me and just said she lost track of time. So that's fine, just seemed like she may have been over worked or flustered. Anyway, put and order in for the combo platter. Took forever to come out and on top of that, it was just meh, generic food pretty much. Potato skins were all right, jalapeno poppers were pretty good, but the waffle fries and onion rings I was not too fond of. So we finished out beers and the waitress hadn't come back in a while but we can see her inside, so maybe it was just because we were on the patio. We decided to not get another round due to the slow service and just asked for the check. That took a little while again to come back, and when she finally did, the app was still full price on there. So instead of waiting, I had to go in and find her so that i could get that price changed. Ended up just paying cash since who knows how long it would have taken if i tried to pay card. I will say I'm a fan of the music though. It was like 90s stuff on a Friday night. I'll probably come back for that alone, but more likely just head to the bar on my own. read more

Came here with some friends on a Friday night and the bar was pretty crowded. The crowd was very diverse and not always in a good way. The music was like greatest hits from the 80s and 90s which I loved, but the DJ cut off "How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston right before the chorus (huge let down) and then kept cutting out on "I've had the time of my life" from Dirty Dancing which is a great song, but when he cut back in it replayed the part of the song everyone at the bar just sang which was weird and annoying. Innjoy is my favorite bar in Chicago, hands down. Who can resist 80s/90s music, good drinks, and music videos/80s moves playing on all the TVs in the bar? It turns into one big dance party with the awesome music, and you'll find yourself singing along to songs that defined your childhood. The #1 reason that I come to Innjoy is for Madrid, the greatest bartender in Chicago. He is unbelievably kind, a TON of fun, and always has a smile on his face. You'll find him behind the bar, mixing up shots, and dancing and singing to the music. He helped my husband and I have an impromptu wedding after party at Innjoy and catered to us all night long. Madrid is the best! I'm going to miss him and Innjoy when I become a suburbanite, but we will definitely make it back in the city for some 80s/90s fun. read more

We stopped in after Mirai for my birthday...4 of my girls and I snagged a booth, a good position to be in. The decor is a bit strange, and all of the pics we took at the table (yeah, nerds with a little liquor and sushi=impromptu bday photo session) all looked like we were actually in some sort of glamour shots studio. Kind of a funky touch, I dug the pics...so a star for that. The menu didn't look appealing (but probably fine for bar food, just paled in comparison to some killer sushi at Mirai). Service was fine, music was fine, wasn't too crowded...but not a super "must have" spot on already uber packed Division St. Ho hum. I was here on a Friday night when the drinking commenced at 4:30. So safe to say I was far from sober by the time we got here. But I love 80s music. With a passion. They were playing awesome music, until about 1:30. And then the DJ started playing some of the worst from the last couple decades. I don't know if this is some ploy to get rid of people or what but it worked. It did get crowded but the atmosphere was fun and if you find the right pocket you can be unharrassed by the crowds moving to the almost-inaccessible bathrooms and dance. Easter weekend and a group of us were on the lookout for fish n' chips options, they offer a big fish sandwich which in reality is smaller than a Fish sandwich at Burger King and their fish n chips served with (actual) pomme frites (more desirable than the fish sandwich). Fish sandwich wasn't much of a meal, served on a steak sandwich bun cut diagonal with a sponge load of lettuce, hella big wedge of tomato, home made tartar and chips. Should've asked for frites or waffle fries instead, though they aren't options with the meal, + extra. Also sampled a Margherita pizza which was tasty, light and ready within minutes and their spinach dip which was just meh. Music was old school Friday's and they ran an old copy of America's Home Video's starring Steven Carrell (Note the name difference to show you the age of the episode). In the front there is seating for smaller groups and in the back, pub tables with high chairs and a bit more quiet. That is until it becomes like a club and they turn on the annoying strobe lights which just happened to spit light right into my eyes. Couple IPA's in plastic cups, food in our bellies and we were outtie. For food and a few beers it's an alright option, I could see coming here randomly, on purpose? Eh.. Men's room, Wtf? Can't stand it when they put urinals next to each other without spacers. Guys do not pee like this, standing shoulder to shoulder, pee does not happen. Only awkward silences till we get to know each other and then.. maybe.. pee happens. Why would anyone pay $3 for a PBR ? Ew. read more

This bar has very good food. Go on Friday nights (or any night for that matter) for the fish & chips, which are always crisp and delicious. The pizzas are also good and freshly made. Innjoy has a very low-key, almost corner bar feel to it, eventhough it can get packed after 10p as folks groove to various DJs. The bartenders add to the corner bar feel, greeting you with a smile and remembering what you're drinking, even when its packed. *Disclaimer -- I do DJ at Innjoy one a month (Fridays), but I have been going there since it opened to eat and drink. read more

My friend Chuck reviewed this place and I feel he is very wrong. Chuck was extremely wasted at this place and I would lay money down too impaired to judge. The food was great and service was awesome. When you've got 30 girls dressed in 80s gear, you find a bar that plays 80s tunes. That's what led us to Innjoy, a spot that's mediocre in the grand scheme of chicago bars but perfect for the occasion. We reserved a table for the party in the back with what we considered our own private bar. For the next four hours we danced our asses off. I'm literally sore in the rear region because of all the booty shaking we did. From billy idol to journey to phil collins to madonna, the DJ hit all the high notes of the 80s. Pun intended. Consider this the worst service I've ever experienced. The food is pretty good, but you'll have gray hair and old balls by the time it comes to you. I used to consider this place an option. But one time my party of eight was so disappointed that we left probably a 1% tip and vowed never to return. This goes down in the books as the only time I've ever tipped less than 15%. Such a fun bar! I've been there on Friday and Saturday nights and had a great time each night. The music is great and the drinks are strong. There's usually good drink specials too. I love that the crowd is eclectic and not pretentious, you can dress up or dress down and fit right in. There's a lot of dancing, smiles and laughter had by all. "DJ" - was OK, he was playing some good music but his ipod or cds were continually skipping - lame and I think he was more concerned about the state of his hair. Bar was stuffed to the max (randoms, hipsters, bachelorette parties, & a sprinkle of Ed Hardy douches)- we were lucky enough to score an open spot in the back by the bathrooms, but you literally had to SQUEEEEEEEZE your way through to get anywhere else. I mean, I know bars are crowded on weekend, but come on. I was literally sizing up the bar for other emergency exits in case any hipsters caught on fire. The only really redeeming factor was they played Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo on the big screen TVs in the back and Turbo and Ozone got me through the night. All in all - its an OK bar. This place has good music, good daily specials and is close to home. However, they have rude bartenders that pour weak drinks and sometimes get way too crowded for their own good. I only go here when friends twist my arm and pay for my drinks for forcing me to be in such a lame place. read more
