Located less than 0.5mile from SF City Hall, this cute boutique hotel is upscale and sophisticated. The foyer is expertly decorated in royal blue, gold and deep green hues with a shimmering chandelier as the room's center piece. Check-in was a breeze and service was polite and friendly. Complimentary macarons and cookies are offered in the afternoon and fresh coffee, hot cocoa and teas 24/7. Rooms are located on 7 floors and can be accessed with the elevator or stairs. Our room was tiny which can only fit a queen size bed with no additional seating area. Room amenities include a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, dinnerware and glassware. Street parking can be difficult but there is a parking garage around the corner within walking distance. Definitely would stay here again and am highly recommending for anyone looking for a classy place to stay in SF!

Quaint inn in Civic Center. Stayed here for a long weekend with my boyfriend while we were in town for a wedding, and it was a comfortable stay. We weren't able to check in early but they were able to store our bags securely. The room was cozy and they have a TV that you can connect to your phone. They gave us macarons as a little snack on Friday afternoon and they have hot water/teas in the lobby. WiFi is free and it's a fairly short walk to the BART station. The employees were all very nice and the entrance is secured by keycard at night for security. Overall, it's a good place to stay for a reasonable price.

This is a beautiful little boutique hotel with under 60 rooms from what I remember. It's located in the heart of the opera district and right across from city hall, the opera house, and orchestra hall. There's tons of restaurants and bars around the area and easy access to any part of the city being near the main streets with busses that run across town. It's also super safe and never felt unsure walking around here late night. As for the hotel, the elevator is small, but it's super old and cool. The rooms are relatively small but not bad considering this is a very old hotel. They are laid out very efficiently and the windows provide a nice breeze with a ceiling fan that keeps you cool. The front desk service and housekeeping were very good. They even have coffee and a ton of different types of tea bags in the lobby 24 hours a day. For the price, this place is a real great spot to stay in.

The Inn at the Opera is beautiful! Lots of updates including our bathroom, the lobby, and stairwell is so pretty! Definitely a much older hotel and a smaller Ballerina Room, but it was just me and my daughter and we had a blast. Always the coffee maker, microwave and mini-fridge that make it perfect to order-in and store left-overs and reheat! Von, Christian, & Elizabeth who worked the front desk were so pleasant and helpful, housekeeping was happy to provide towels and room touch ups and also super friendly. I loved that everything was within walking distance from Hayes Valley, cute restaurants, and cafes. Parking is about 40bucks overnight and just a block away, but plenty of street parking if you're feeling lucky and not leaving anything in the car. Japantown is just a drive over as well. We had a good time and the room was small but fit well for the two of us! Can't wait to re-stay!

11/24/2018: The complimentary breakfast served this morning was remarkably disappointing . . . It's 8:45 AM-The breakfast buffet platters and bowls served on the table were almost empty; the restaurant opens for breakfast at 7:00 AM and stops serving breakfast at 10:00 AM. First, I began serving myself: Coffee, OJ-very little OJ was left in the glass pitcher, and iced H2O; afterwards, I noted from a distance from where I was sitting how empty the bowls and platters were on the buffet table . . . I approached the right side of the buffet table where this thoughtless woman began heaving the remaining strawberries and the other selections of fruit onto her plate: I began glaring at the woman so, she "thoughtfully" left me ONE strawberry! WTH!!!! As a result of this woman heaving the majority of the fruit onto her plate, I managed absconding a meager clump of red grapes, one cube of watermelon, one cube of pineapple, one cube of cantaloupe-that's all I could get (!!!!); I shifted to my left, grabbed a half of an "everything" bagel, a piece of smoked Canadian (medallion size) bacon-there were only three minuscule pieces of Canadian bacon left! I couldn't believe my eyes: I saw that thoughtless woman take at least, FIVE PIECES OF CANADIAN BACON PLACING ONTO HER PLATE-GRRRRRRR~WHY are you doing THAT, Woman, eh???? I began sighing, shaking my head, glaring at that woman heaving the remaining portions of buffet piled high onto her plate . . . leaving me a slice of American cheese, the four remaining slices of tomatoes left on the platter were water-logged~definitely passing on the tomatoes, and a meager dollop of cottage cheese because the yogurt bowl was empty, and a few remaining cupcakes were left from that woman's buffet spree so, I took a small, blueberry cupcake. EYE ROLL . . . Regardless, I gave a $3.00 gratuity for the male waiter who upon my request, I asked if, he would melt the cheese and Canadian bacon on the half bagel left from the buffet table I managed absconding from that woman grabbing the majority of the buffet, breakfast selection which he graciously complied. The melted American cheese with the Canadian bacon underneath was the highlight of my remarkably disappointing, the Inn At The Opera's breakfast~ho-hum.

Checked in Sunday for a two night stay...checked out Sunday an hour later. Room was small with no heat and no air. They put an old space heater in the corner for you. Please see the pictures so you can understand what you are getting. I spent 30 minutes of that hour being hassled by staff about being a Shell Owner and going to a Timeshare update, etc. When I said no repeatedly and finally walked away, the girl had the nerve to tell me she was downstairs every day and would be checking back with me to try and get me to go throughout my whole stay! When I finally got to the room I got 4 calls from staff on the land line.... We checked out to stay somewhere we wouldn't be harassed. This location is close to the opera house but really nothing else and the parking is a nightmare; you wait for the valet forever. I have stayed here half a dozen times in the past and the hotel is ok as long as you won't be spending much time in it... Now that Shell is going under they have apparently unleashed their high pressure sales people to sick everyone who reserved a room. It's sad really. I will not be back.

#550 Inn at the Opera is a nice, smaller hotel with very friendly, personable service. It is newly renovated (some floors are currently undergoing renovation) and features a popular restaurant (Plaj). Located behind City Hall and next to the Opera, the location of this hotel is ideal for anyone visiting the opera, ballet, or symphony. Located at Franklin and Fulton, it's a short walk from McAllister and Van Ness, which have major bus routes. It's also just a few minutes away (walking) from the Van Ness and Civic Center Muni/BART stations on Market, so it's really easy to get around from here. Pros: Small hotel (48 rooms) so staff remembers you Very friendly service (greeted every time we went in or out) Free wifi Computer in lobby for guests to access internet Kitchenette with fridge, microwave, coffeepot, dishes, silverware, and sink (great for having a drink or heating up leftovers) Free breakfast (varies slightly daily: cereal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, muffins, breads, bagels, English muffins, cream cheese, jam, tomatoes, fruit, coffee, tea, oj, etc.) Otis Spunkmeyer cookies at 3pm and apples in the lobby Daily basic cleaning for timeshare owners (other timeshares may only offer a single midweek cleaning) Quick heater in room Duvets that get washed (no yucky reused comforters contaminating the bed) Makeup remover wipes/cloths in bathroom Windows that open (love that fresh air!) Street parking may be available, but use caution Cons: Wifi's weak signal makes it practically useless Only one small elevator (holds 4 people) Although they are renovating, there are some areas clearly needing repair (like the baseboards in our room, or the walls of the elevator) Parking is valet only Rooms are on the small side (but this is typical for an old SF property) Walls are on the thin side Overall, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I would definitely stay here again. We stayed in one of the remodeled rooms (top floor-7th)and while it is small, it was enough room for two people to comfortably spend a week. One of the biggest perks of staying here is the free breakfast, which can really save money and start the day off right. And the best part of that? They have fresh blueberries and raspberries every morning. Breakfasts aren't always very vegan friendly, but this one was 100% vegetarian with a lot of vegan options. Seriously awesome.

From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and celebrated. A special thank you to Jomel, who helped us with pre logistics questions and made sure everything was perfect. The suite was incredibly spacious, clean, and thoughtfully arranged--ideal for a space for a small bridal party to get ready. We were touched by the surprise gifts waiting for us in the room, which added such a personal and memorable touch to our wedding weekend. The beds were comfortable and most of the suite was relatively safe for our toddler to run around and explore. There was a mixup with reserving a parking spot, so make sure you confirm your spot while making a reservation. The elevators being out was tricky to coordinate with all of our luggage, and the parking spaces were quite small, but both were manageable and the staff was so helpful in bringing a few things up for us. They also accommodated us being late with our check out, which was incredibly kind. Please note that check out time is at 10am (not 11am or 12pm like other hotels) and plan accordingly! We're so thankful for the hospitality and care shown by the entire team. Highly recommend for anyone celebrating a special occasion in San Francisco!
