Probably the worst experience we've had in any hotel. With the amount of broken amenities within the room it would have been much better to book a slightly more expensive room anywhere else. Because the blinds and the AC were broken we were forced to keep the window open for some air which also let bugs in the room without the cover of the blinds. The person at the front desk, Tommy, was incredibly dismissive, rude, and tried making excuses that there were no rooms available for a switch without checking. It stated online there were 4 of the same rooms we were available and able to book. I would not recommend this place to anyone and HIGHLY recommend that you book somewhere else. read more

Not only did this place reek of mold, lack flyscreens and have no clean sheets, they also have in room sauna temperatures, faulty fans and include overpriced stays! After triple checking with the front desk that I had payed for a two night stay, I was locked out after 11am on the first stay and told I would have to pay again + a late fee for "overstaying." When other places include showers or, at least, a toilet, here you get to save pennies while also enjoying the loud flushing from the across-the-hall showers and toilets! After the worst hotel experience of my lifetime, I plead you, a penny pinching future client, to spend the same amount across the street."The Urban" will overcharge you way more than you'll pay elsewhere. Other hotels will have the amenities you pay for upfront at an honest cost. My favorite parts include: the doors DO NOT FIT THE DOORFRAMES, OTHER GUESTS CAN ACCESS YOUR ROOM WITH THEIR KEY CARDS and the front desk can not read the information of your stay unless a manager is present to up charge you from what you have already payed for. For +200 you get: restless sleep, no reassurance about the legitimacy of your stay and also nowhere to pee at night! read more

I had forgotten that the United States is a corrupt country. It's no wonder America is in such a state of disarray. How could a company take such a large sum of money from an individual? It's modern-day robbery! You kept my room charge of $180, and now because I can't make my reservation, I am being charged another $180 If I can't make my reservation keep the room charge it's completely understandable but charge me for another full night as penalty? JUST CRAZY! This proves that American businesses only care about profit and exploit low-income individuals. You should be ashamed of yourselves! read more

Shady, shady, shady! I originally booked with this hotel back in March. I intended to stay for four nights for a work event. The event was in the second week of May. I ended up getting the hotel covered, and cancelled the Urban room on April 18th-- 17 days before I was to check in. Per the hotels policy, I was well ahead of their 24 hour cancellation period. When I called to cancel the reservation in April, the front desk person told me that I was going to still get charged for the first night! WTF? She had spoken to the owner, who claimed that "people don't usually cancel." What kind of malarkey is that?? The owner is such a coward he wouldn't speak to me. The front desk woman told me to email him, then wouldn't give me his email. Sure enough, this thief charged me for a room I never stayed in, though I cancelled in plenty of time. I had it reversed, but what a pain! DO NOT BOOK HERE. They are liars and will charge you randomly just to make a buck. They do not honor any of their policies. read more

This is an example of a very basic budget hotel done right. My single room was small and simple but clean and functional. Showers and toilets are shared but were in good shape and very clean. There is a pleasant common area. Staff were super nice and the price, in the heart of a very expensive city, was unbeatable. read more

I was in San Francisco for the weekend and was looking for some budget accommodations which is very rare in the expensive downtown area. I found this hotel/motel/hostel like spot and was very satisfied. After reading yelp reviews i was prepared about the shared bathrooms and showers in the hallway. I stayed here 3nights from Saturday through Tuesday and never had to wait to use a bathroom or take a shower. The building and bathrooms were clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are no elevators but my room on the 2nd floor was fine. I didnt hear a lot of noise but the walls are a bit thin and you can hear people waking up in the morning. There are several restaurants and stores nearby. My room was small but perfect for me. It was very cozy and had all the necessities I needed. The room had free WiFi, free cable and a mini refrigerator. There was also a small table and chair with a flat screen tv and twin sized bed. There were options for larger beds. My room didn't have any view which was fine. They have a small kitchenette area in the common area where they have a microwave and you can get complimentary water, tea and coffee throughout the day and juice in the mornings. They have free popcorn a certain time in the evenings. The location is within close walking distance to a lot of major touristy spots which I loved since I was in town just to sightsee. It was very easy to navigate to and from. I woud stay here again for a short term stay. read more

Great stay at the urban hotel. Stayed during week of April 2022. The hotel itself is right near the entrance to Chinatown in front of the gate. Its right in the corner. Everytime that you need to access the hotel you would need to dial 01 to buzz in and front desk will buzz you in. Wait for the the door to make a clicking sound before you pull. I would've liked if we can use our hotel card key to open the door rather than buzzing in every time you entry. Could be a security measure? Upon entry the front desk was nice and checked me in. The rooms are private and mine was a bunk bed. The bed itself was comfy. Let me say that it was rather cool/cold in the hallways and room itself. They did not turn on heat or i am guessing April the heat doesnt turn on during this timeline. I saw everyone in sweaters and jackets. So that be aware. The room itself is cosy and can be cold at night BUT, you get a huge comfortor which is very warm. The con of the bed was it was very SQUEAKY. everytime you would move around in your bed you will hear a squeaking noise my advise EAR PLUGS!! Also i was in room 216 and my room faced Bush St. Which is the front main street and it was very noisy! In the morning at 7am you don't need an alarm there is this random man that comes into the corner and he starts singing like a Mariachi it goes from 7am - 12pm. So there goes your sleep. He makes an awesome Alarm clock tho and you won't be able to sleep unless you got really good earplugs to block him out. Each floor has about 3 Restrooms (Unisex) and 3 bathrooms (Unisex). I really liked how i never had to wait or i can go around the corner and use the next one. Let me say that both Restroom and Bathroom (Shower) was very very clean! Very tidy up and well maintained. Although shared it was very clean upon every visit. I would def come back and stay here again due to price and location. read more

Overall: 5/5 Clean, quiet place to stay if you're looking for private rooms and communal bathrooms. Bathrooms are some of the cleanest I've seen in a hostel. There was no social life when I stayed, but that could be due to COVID. It doesn't look setup for social life either (small lounge area, coffee) Location: 5/5 Safe area downtown. Near fancier hotels. Walkable to transit. Pricing: 4/5 This is based on pricing at the time I stayed. There are cheaper hostels if you want to share with 3 or 7 other people, but for single/couple travelers looking for a private room, the pricing was among the best. Rooms: 5/5 Clean. What else do you want? :) Heater in my room wasn't working so they gave me an alternative acceptable portable heater. Cleanliness: 5/5 For a communal/shared bathroom, this place has one of the cleanest facilities I've seen. The bathrooms were spotless. The showers were decently clean. read more

By far my favorite place to stay when in SF. If you are a solo traveler and don't mind a shared bathroom, this is for you. The rooms are designed for people who do not plan to spend much time indoors. A small fridge is provided in room and a microwave is available in the communal lounge if you would like to keep some food with you. Very clean facilities, very quiet inside considering it is located in a busy area. I am a solo female traveler and felt safe in and around the property. There is a safety deposit at check in so make sure you take a credit card. And a mini mart is located immediately downstairs if you need to buy snacks. read more

The Urban - cozy twin room - Hotels Near Me - San Francisco, California

Me and my best friend are visiting San Fran from Los Angeles and we found this place on Trivago. The price was great and affordable. The location of this motel is great. The staff is nice. The room is small but we only stayed here for 2 nights. If you stay in San Fran for more then 2 or 3 nights, ( i think you may as well find a better motel/ hotel. But for 2 nights its great!) The bathroom and showers are located outside of the room, and they arw very clean. Each floor has showers and bathroom. read more

I was at a conference in Silicon Valley and decided to explore San Francisco for a couple of days. I was just looking for basic accommodations, just a clean "no frills" room that was in a good location to explore the city. I found The Urban to do the job just fine. The room was very small but very nicely appointed. Everything was updated and in very good condition. There is a sink in the room but the bathroom/showers are shared. During my stay I never had a problem with waiting for the shower or bathroom. The location is great. If you stay there you'll be conveniently located in the heart of the city. It's very easy to walk around and see and do things. Overall, for the price I would definitely recommend The Urban. read more

A solid 3 stars. The urban provides budget accommodation in a very popular city in the us. The public restroom and shower was moderately clean and you also get free juice daily. It really gives off more of a hostel environment vs. a hotel or motel feel. It doesn't have air conditioning and is in a renovated building. So turn up the fan. We also had problems with the TV, so we called the front desk and the girl didn't know how to fix it. She told us to wait 30 minutes for her shift to end so she could send the person replacing her. The building could be improved with a sign that is propped out onto the street. We had trouble looking for it as the sign is hidden and difficult to make out from afar. Convenient location however, as it is very close to Chinatown and there are various restaurants nearby. read more

For what you pay, you get it ALL. Finding a budget friendly hotel in the middle of the city is impossible unless you stay here. The location is absolutely unbeatable. In the middle of hundreds of stores, bars, and restaurants. I was able to walk to all my touristy things I did in the city. You can also make a day out of walking through Chinatown. The room was small but everything I needed! Shared bathrooms were CLEAN and I am very sassy and high maintenance when it comes to that. Staff was super pleasant. I would 1000% recommend this hotel to any and all travelers! read more

PROS: Location is great, close to Chinatown, Union Square and the Financial District, 10-minute walk to little Italy or Fishermans Wharf. Anyone who says the area is sketchy due to the homeless folks around, foot traffic and street noise. will have a problem with 80% of the city and 100% of the tourist areas. There is always someone watching the front door and the front door is secured by a security code (no one can randomly wander in) The room is dorm room small but you get a midsize fridge, a TV with lots of channels, a little desk hanging from the wall, a chair, a sink and mirrors, and a little storage area. The hotel was pretty quiet. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers available on every floor (never had to wait or walk more that 10 feet to the next available one) and no its not like a GYM shower or a public restroom, you will be the only one in there. They are maintained very clean and the shower offers liquid soap and shampoo. The fact they are shared means they are bigger than what you would get if they was located in your room. The staff was nice and very accommodating, even when I had a special request they did their best to meet them. Cons: Remember what you are signing up for, this is a budget hotel! don't expect a steak on a dollar menu budget. The only thing that caught me by surprise and needs to be addressed is as follows. The rooms can get hot and there is no AC. I think I had one of the better rooms as it was facing the streets and getting some breeze thru the window, I can't imagine the inner rooms where the window faces the inside. (the hotel is shaped oddly but inner rooms do in fact have a window facing a courtyard that cant really be used.) The following are more like wishes than complaints: I wish the hotel would have invested in occupied/vacant style door knobs for bathrooms/showers, like I said they are very clean and private but someone pulling at the door will remind you that its a shared bathroom/shower. I wish they used wall space a bit better to make the rooms feel bigger, maybe a foldable desk, a lamp on the wall instead of the desk, a hanging wall phone. read more

Very nice and clean for the price . The location was pretty good , was right by china town and it wasn't too expensive to Uber from here . The reception lady was very nice and gave us extra blankets when asked . The room was pretty clean, and had everything basic I needed . I was a little iffy about the restroom situation, but every time I went into the restroom it was very clean. It was too noisy outside but would recommend ear plugs if you are a light sleeper :) read more

I like their soup and shampoo! Relaxing and clean room. Not noisy so it is a nice place. Price is good.

This place gets two stars because the staff are great and the bathrooms are clean. However the furniture is uncomfortable and too big for the tiny room. I knew the room would small, but why a huge fridge and cupboard to clutter it up. Those are not shown in the hip photos on the website. The floors we're slanty and the bed a cheap IKEA mattress. The topper was that the guy next door let himself into my room by mistake with his card. I've stayed in a lot of hotels but that was the worst! The front desk reprogrammed the lock apparently but still....too much $ for what you get at the Urban. read more

NO ICE MACHINE. If you're in one of the larger rooms there are minifridges, but in the small rooms you're stuck with warm beer and rotting leftovers. GET A GODDAMNED ICE MACHINE. Every rural hick motel in the middle of nowhere has one and here you are overlooking the Dragon Gate making your guests choke down room-temperature beverages. Not cool. Other than that, decent place as long as your room isn't facing Bush or Grant, in which case you will definitely want earplugs. read more

My partner and I stayed here this past weekend for pride. We really enjoyed our room, though small and little hot due to the architecture of the building preventing good circulation, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We also had no issues going to the shared bathrooms, showering, or being kept up by traffic. It is reasonably priced, right next door to a Star Bucks, and across from the Dragon Gate/China Town. We will definitely stay with them the next time we go to San Francisco. read more

The single room was small and basic, but clean. It's a decent place to stay and the staff are friendly. The location is very good since it's just a couple blocks to transportation and right in the downtown. Unfortunately the bright light in the hallway, the lack of curtains, and the street noise kept me up all night. It's incredibly loud outside with the garbage trucks and people honking and stuff. If you sleep like a rock, this is a good place for you, but it's not for light sleepers. I only stayed one night and it was pleasant overall, but I wouldn't stay again. read more

My 3 nights here were good. Staff members were nice. The place was clean (I did arrive when the cleaning lady was there so that did play a part but the place seems well kept). I have no complaints about my room, all was good. My room had a twinbed with a microwave, mini fridge and a sink. I'm not high maintenance so the noise from the cars/trucks/people passing by the streets weren't an issue for me. If I ever come back to San Fran, I'll most likely come back to this place! This lodging is neat as a pin, well appointed and thoughtfully arranged - close to BART and accessible to the many upscale financial district restaurants. Staff is congenial, helpful and hard working. Each room contains a refrigerator, phone, HD television and Wifi throughout the facility. Linen is crisp, restrooms and shower facilities are immaculate. I recently stayed here with out knowing about the communal bathrooms. If I knew that, I wouldn't have booked this hotel. First I will state that the place is clean and updated nicely and if you are on a budget it's a good option. But here are some tips, ask to be in a room by the bathrooms on your floor. At night a lot of people use it and the door slams shut so it will keep you up. Seriously people it was all night long. The rooms were warm but they do provide fans. Also to take note they don't have elevators. The staff was nice but I will never stay here again. read more

Splash out an extra 50 bucks and stay elsewhere. The staff was nice and friendly, but the room was dingy and the bunk bed rickety enough that I worried for my safety--having been the one to sleep on the lower bunk. The shower was poorly-ventilated and, thus, steamy. read more

i stayed at the hotel one day,,,when i was checking in there was a young couple having issues with their reservation,,,to make a long story short i never got my 100 deposit back, keep on getting the run around the room was tiny and stuffy and i felt like i was in a office building not a hotel just beware if you stay here they have issues and there are a lot of other hotels to stay in san francisco read more

The receptionist attempted to totally ignore us when we ringed him using the intercom at the front door. This seems to depend on the person working the front desk. In this case it was an older brown skinned man working around midnight on 12/8/2017. We remembered the front door key code from our previous stay which seemed to take the receptionist by surprise. He then proceeded to tell us that they were totally booked regardless of our paid confirmation. After my own angry insistence that we booked the room in advance the receptionist proceeded to give us the wrong room with an non-functioning key 2 times. I insisted that he accompany us to the third floor after the second time because I was tired of walking up and down the stairs. This time he gave us a room with a very tiny single bed despite us having booked a double bed well in advance. I've never had a similar experience with this hotel so I really think it was the receptionist not doing his job in this case. read more
