Killington in Summer! You do not have to ski to have a great trip to Vt. After a kayaking jaunt to Chittenden Reservoir with friends staying at the resort, we settled on this spot. Notes taken: 1) I thought the Long Trail Brewery had a full food menu (last trip summer 2007?), did not see a food menu on the website. Huh. 2) Next recommended place was here, and I joking said, "I will know if this place is truly worthy if they have a pot pie. Some of the (seasonally closed) main restaurant dishes carried over to the pub, and there was a FABULOUS pot pie!! There was also an extensive whiskey menu, and 2 dart boards. We were given a slice of incredible Irish soda bread on the side, with raisins, and the owner (likely) noted it was his mother's recipe. They also had specials, which is the sign of a great restaurant more often than not. They had arctic chard ... and the people who ordered it were pleased. The Inn is obviously a popular stop in for through hikers on the AT and Long Trail, as indicated by many signs. Oh, and 3) The main door to the Pub is the same as the Inn. ;) Great time, great food, great drinks. read more

We've visited this place many times in the past but have never actually stayed here overnight. What a cute, quaint inn! The bonus of course is the pub downstairs which would typically (pre-covid) have live music. The rooms are very simple with no TV nor AC. We came during a time where cracking the window open and turning on the fan is more than enough to cool yourself off. If you're hiking on the LT this is a no brainer. The path literally comes out right next to the place. Even if you don't stay here overnight, swing inside anyway to feed your face. I suggest the Shepherd's pie which came with soda bread and nom nom nom it was good. read more

I had reserved an inside twin room for the night of 12/4. Unfortunately, the first room that given to us was uninhabitable. The radiator was malfunctioning. Not only was it a steam bath, the windows were steamed up, the temperature was unbearable and the carpet was soaked from water dripping from the radiator. When we were relocated to a new room it was a room with a daybed and a full or queen bed. Regardless of the fact we had wanted two twins beds, we were willing to make this work. Then my sister had to use bathroom and found a toilet seat that was barely connected to the toilet and looked so dirty my cat would not touch it. We asked again at the front desk, the gentleman checked said the seat was clean it was just paint chipping off. I requested he fix the loose seat or move us to acceptable room. He didn't want to relocate us "because the maids would have another room to clean." He did tighten the seat, I slept on the daybed and my sister on the bed. Again at 55 & 61 years old nether of us enjoy sleeping on a small uncomfortable daybed when this was not what we were expecting. read more

Inn at Long Trail - Bathroom in my second room - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Killington, Vermont

First I want to start by saying the staff was very friendly. This would be the third time I have stayed at this inn, but the first time post Covid. The pub is a fun place to relax after a long day on the trail or for whatever brought you to Vermont. I booked a room that was dog friendly, as this was the first time I was traveling with my little sidekick. Please note, I have an extensive history in public safety and post retirement a decade in hospitality safety, so I know what I am talking about. Upon arrival, I checked in around 1700 on 9 October 2022. The room was musty smelling, the bed and furniture old and uncomfortable. The cleanness of certain areas of the suite were questionable. In addition, although sold as a fire place suite, it appeared to be an electric fireplace with no clear way to turn on. The worst parts of the room were how dark it was and overly warm with no way to get decent ventilation. From a safety point of view I turned on one lamp and it sparked from a frayed wire, which I quickly unplugged. In addition, there was old wiring, not sure if it was an old fire alarm system stapled to the ceiling. Finally, the room had hard keys, not computer fobs. with the room number on the tag. This is against all safety standards in this day and age, as it allows a bad person to view room numbers or if a key is lost to enter that room. It is also very prevalent for bad actors to obtained copies of these keys. Also note there was no safety locking bar to keep the occupants protected in the room from unauthorized access as they slept. I went to dinner in Killington and decided that I didn't want to stay there. I was extremely disappointed. I returned to check out, after only being there for 2-hours for a three day stay. The young lady was extremely nice, but what upset me was she made no offer to at least reimburse me one or two of the nights that I had booked. The reality is I wouldn't recommend the Inn at the Long Trail to any travelers. read more

Ok everyone and anyone who cares about excellence and indulgence in where you're staying and what your EATING!!!!!!!! :) HERE GOES ,, The Inn at Long Trail is a must go and eat the fine fare!! Honestly if you know me ..and I dont expect that many reading this review do, you know I'm completely crazy about great food. That said if you miss out on going to this place you're completely missing out onwhat greatness is. This place has two beautiful restuarants that the same kitchen serves. Might I add, it is serviced by a chef that is completely over the top and out of control talented. He is more than excellent on his main course selections. I've had every one of them and one is better than the next. I have to concede. I cannot do it better. Furthermore he brought a newer dish (for me anyway) to my palate and its the New England raised Bavette Steak. I had to meet this chef and you guys all do too!!! Forget meeting him and go to the Inn at Long Trail, stay there in this excellent Killington institution and EAT HIS FOOD!!!!!!!!!! Our local bike club has held its annual Vermont bicycle retreat in August here for the past several years, and this place never disappoints. As members, we receive a discounted group rate , plus two dinners included, making the Long Trail Inn an outstanding value. The inn is well-situated for many of our bike routes, as it is located along a major highway. The food is excellent and the pub frequently has live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. It is also very reasonably priced. The Inn at Long Trail clearly shows that one doesn't have to go to Ireland to sample good Irish fare and entertainment. read more

This review is really for McGrath's Pub as we stopped in here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon prior to hiking 3957 ft to Pico Peak (entrance right across the street). We're all seriously impressed by all the Irish.. STUFF on the walls and the natural wood-laden structure of the whole place. The living/ common area in the back where guests at the Inn stay is super cozy and beautiful as well as the Pub itself. Darts, portraits of war heros, the whole nine. Food was super authentic as well (I really should've gotten the stew). My only small gripe was that there was only one person in the front of the house - the bartender served as our waiter also. Solid place and after looking at their website, I seriously am thinking about staying here next time as they had me at hottub. read more

Location, location, location. The Inn at Long Trail has the most desirable siting for active people and as well, for those seeking relaxation. We stayed here for two nights with a friend's 50th birthday party. We pretty much booked the entire Inn and had a private party on Saturday night. It was a memorable occasion and in great part due to the low-key and relaxing vibe of the place, the great staff, the good food and the Inn's outstanding Irish bar. For starters, the place is just feet away from the Long Trail and a stone's throw distance from the Appalachian Trail. As well, it has numerous other trails including one right at the back of the Inn that is wildly popular with the rock climbing crowd and with another hiking path to the same point that affords spectacular views of the Inn and Pico Mountain. Throughout the day, Appalachian Trail hikers stop by for directions, refreshments, a cold brew, conversation, and a rest stop at the comfy outdoor chairs sited around a giant, original grist mill stone which is now used as a table. Then, the place has a wing with fireplaces, now safely equipped with gas units, that are also dog friendly. Yes, bring a crate because the management frowns upon a guest leaving a pet unattended in the room. The large game room is a unique feature. A real kid's paradise the way it should be. Toys that improve motor skills, social interaction and coordination. No computers, no TV in the game room, or the rest of the anti social conglomerate of toys that are turning our kids into socially inept hermits. But virtually every puzzle, brain game or social game is there. Please, please keep it that way. The accommodations are plain and rustic in the way you would expect an original Inn on a nationally recognized hiking trail. If you're looking for the Omni Resort, drive another hour. It's not a JW Marriott nor it expects to be. The place was built decades ago and has been run by the same family for over 40 years. Yes, the fireplace rooms now have TVs which we didn't have time nor desire to turn on for much of the time. Bathrooms need some updates. But that's not why people come here for. The place is an old time Inn like few that are left. You feel welcome. The giant bolder that is part of the dining room is an attraction in itself. The first contact upon arrival will likely be a white-haired New Englander with an encyclopedic knowledge of the area, hiking spots, nearby amenities and weather. The reasonably priced rooms include a full breakfast at the rustic dining room which is attended by friendly hostesses. And the breakfast.... Oh the breakfast.... Plentiful, tasty and enough food to last all the way to dinner. The owners live on the premises and are delightful people, always going The Spring through Fall day at the Inn is perfect for relaxation as everyone else is off hiking. Or one can enjoy the hiking too and then relax. Or go out to nearby Killington and its many activities. Or the Long Trail Brewery. Or the fancy shopping at Manchester. Or history. The possibilities are endless. Mid day, the McGrath Irish Pub opens up with an amazing array of libations on tap. Of course, the always present Guinness which is good for you is on the menu. And during the evening, their restaurant serves one tasty Guinness Stew that will satiate any protein and carb deficit accrued from vigorous hiking. Overall I'll rate the place five. Yes, there are some infrastructure updates needed. But when placed against the location, the atmosphere, the great food, the delicious breakfasts and most of all, the amazing and welcoming staff, the place is a gem. I hope for and wish the Inn at Long Trail many more years at this location. read more

As a disabled Veteran, I was hiking the Long Trail and heard good things about the Inn. Nothing could've been further from reality. When I arrived and asked for about the hikers cost for a room I was told that the prices for a room had changed two days prior and ended in September at least doubling the cost of renting a room. Very disappointing! So I guess making a buck is more important than accommodating a person that served this country. Not to mention questioning my disability is not legal or theirs to know. The attitude was also very disappointing. When a friend called the inn to speak to a manager about the situation, she hung up on him. Poor Customer Service, not to mention disrespectful. I will never support a business that does value those that have sacrificed for their country. Greenbrier Inn was not much better. The opposite of the kindness experienced from people in Northern Vermont. read more

We came up in early February, on a Thursday or Friday evening around 8pm to get a bite to eat after being on the road for 3-hours. The place was pretty much abandoned except for one other party in the pub/restaurant..not a positive sign during the height of ski season. Although the bartender was cordial and beer was good. The waiter (also the bartender) was chirping about the Guinness Stew. How could you go wrong with their own "famous hearty beef stew"? UGH! Well...our expectations were heightened by the recommendation by the house. When it came out I was shocked. It was like slop, very small pieces of vegetables and a bit of meat, and like it had been sitting around in the refrigerator for a week and quickly reheated in a microwave. This stay was recommended to us. We got the "Fireplace Suite" on a 90-degree day. I still did not care as I needed some space. I was looking forward to a shower and got one in the tub that had no grippers. I slid out of the tub, over its edge and my side hit the toilet very hard. The towels I needed were frayed. Went to dinner there--food tasted canned. I did get a free drink. Thought at least I could rest with the AC--there is no AC. The next morning, I did not eat breakfast-got a refund then went to the hospital where they found I had broken a rib. Get some grips on the tubs or others will be hurt. read more

The Inn at the Long Trail is an absolute gem. I was told about this place by a family who had vacationed in Killington and frequented this place for years. They spoke of this place fondly and I know why. First off, it's extremely quaint and beautiful, using it's natural surroundings to its advantage. Long Trail is built into the rock face. Order a Guinness and it comes with a beautiful shamrock impression on the head. Major skill. The food? It's an Irish place, how good could it be? DELICIOUS. I'm not particularly a fan of potato skins and as a group we split them as an appetizer. Nicely surprised. And I ended up splitting the reuben. Extremely good. All food had lots of great flavor. As a side note, the soda bread is awesome. If I get the opportunity to go to Killington for ski/snowboarding season again, this place will earn top priority as a visit. read more

We went to this place for post hike lunch. This old vermont rustic restaurant is right besides amazing deer loop trail. We were a group of 9. We ordered Nachos, lots of veggie burgers, hummus plate and grilled cheese. Every dish was awesome. I don't have any pictures as I was damn hungry post my hike. Just back from a weekend staying here - wanted somewhere cheap and cheerful which was close to Killington mountain and this fitted the bill well. The pros 1. The price - 100 bux a night for b and b - great value 2. Breakfast - really solid 3. The communal areas - cozy and welcoming, especially after being in the hills 4. The bar was a really nice bar with great staff and friendly service. Good beer and a great atmosphere - entertaining musicians. The cons 1. The room was really really really shabby. Wallpaper was scraped and peeling, the bathroom could have done with some resealing around the bath. We were just looking for basic B andB ,and it was clean, however it would not have taken much for a lick of paint. 2. There was no hairdryer in the room -I presumed there would be one and I wish there had been so I could have washed my hair after a day skiing. 3. The food in the bar was only A-OK. We didn't ask if the restaurant was open, but it seemed to be dark and quiet and it wasn't offered as an option for dining on check in. All in all we would go back - convenient location and reasonably priced. read more

While the pub is open year round, the dining room serves dinner in the fall and winter. No worries, I'll return when the snow flies! I stayed at the inn again. This time in one of the rooms in the upstairs. I personally found it to be much more comfortable than the fireplace rooms on the outer wings. Our room happened to have a whirlpool and was quite nice. Simple, but nicely furnished and clean. Breakfast is included with the reasonable overnight price. Best of all, just a few steps out the door is the trail with plenty of opportunity for some great day hikes. read more

Whenever I'm passing by, and it's been too infrequently lately, I always make it a point to stop in for both their perfect Guinness pour and delicious Guinness beef stew. You should make it a point to stop in and a have an adult beverage at the bar or sit near the large rock that the pub is built around. A few buddies and I literally pushed our van into the parking lot after getting stuck outside in a snowstorm. Turns out we couldn't have gotten stuck in a better spot. They graciously let us hang out in the living room until we could decide whether to try to depart again or stay the night until the snow passed. The place is as cozy as it gets. They built us a fire, offered us coffee and hot chocolate as we waited out the storm. Everything is EXACTLY as you'd expect a rustic Vermont Inn to look like complete with board games, puzzles, antique ski gear everywhere and more. Sitting on the couch by the roaring fire isn't a bad way to wait out a blizzard. We ended up staying the night and having lunch & dinner at the small Irish pub attached. Spuds, Shepard's Pie, Patty Melt and Guinness pours hit the spot. If you're looking for a true rustic VT experience that's nothing fancy, but just good people, good food and unique setting - this is your place. read more

The Inn and Long Trail is conveniently located by the Deer Leap trail heading into the Long Trail. It's a nice Irish bar with a giant rock coming into the bar area. We came here on Xmas night and received attentive friendly service. We ordered a few Switchbacks, the Mac n cheese, and the chicken pot pie. The pot pie was delicious but the Mac n cheese tasted like an Alfredo pasta instead. Darts were fun. read more

I stayed here again this August. This is a very friendly warm and open place where locals, tourists, day hikers and thru-hikers all get along. There is a comfortable Irish pub with a good, but but not etensive pub menu. Irish beer and Whiskey is a big theme and the use Guinness in a couple of their recipes as well as selling it on tap. Weekends feature Irish music - which on the nights I've heard it was full of rowdy drinking songs performed by folks who were better entertainers than they were musicians. The other public areas are very nice, they have a well stocked game room and a nice public area to hang out in. The dining room and the pub are both built around large bolders and the dining room looks out and in the summer you can often see hummingbirds feeding in the morning. Other pluses: Fireplace suites with gas lit fireplaces and dogs allowed. Adequate reasonably priced rooms. Full breakfast from a menu in the morning with rooms. The restaurant is open in the winter. I have only been there summers, but it looks like a very cozy place to hang out after skiing or snowshoeing. read more

I was thru hiking the Long Trail with my dog, so called ahead and the woman told me they had a fireplace suite that allowed dogs. It cost $140. I pictured a bright room with a stone fireplace, a big bed with a fluffy white duvet and a bed frame made from branches. Well, the room sucked. It was dark with faux wood paneling on the walls. The fireplace had a sign on it prohibiting it to be used. The couches were gross, unmatching seventies style with orange and brown polyester upholstery with cigarette burns. The heaters were rusty and falling apart. There were wires hanging out of the ceiling where smoke detectors should have been. The bed was definitely not what the fluffy paradise I had imagined. There was a twin and a double with unmatching fleece blankets over them. I hoped there were no bedbugs. Too tired to give the keys back and find a different place to stay, I got in the mildewy shower and the soap dispenser fell apart when I used it. When I went to bed I could hear rock music through the walls. I woke up at 2 or 3 in the morning called the front desk and asked them to do something about the music. They were apologetic and turned it off. I couldn't believe it was the staff playing music that whole time! The breakfast was great. Otherwise, the Inn at the Long Trail is disgusting and a total rip off. Don't stay here if you can avoid it. read more

This place is awesome. We hiked in on our way north from the old Long Trail across the road and headed in for a room and dinner. Murray (the owner?) was super welcoming and kind, and even remembered our Trail names later in the evening! Rooms are standard motel rooms - no TV in ours, small bathroom, simple - but the beds are SO comfy!! Definitely more comfortable than any other motel I've stayed in. McGrath's was fantastic for food! We had shepherds pie and the turkey apple melt with a cup of the stew. Good selection of craft beers and the bartender is a super nice guy too! Later on in the night, we may or may not have also had the nachos, and they may or may not have been incredible. And then breakfast!! I've never eaten a whole plate of French toast until we stayed here. Thank you Inn at Long Trail!!! read more

I've both stayed here and ate here. It's a great place for everything involved! The pub is legendary and feels like your on the other side of the Atlantic. The rooms are all different and depending where you stay can feel like your typical bed and breakfast or a nice cabin in the woods. Their breakfast was the best part, I could have stayed there all day and ate away. I was also lucky enough to have a nice pint of Guinness right as they opened up the pub! I've been coming here for years, I can't say enough positive things about this place. If you are looking for a place to get out of town and just de-tune; this is the place. Murray, Patty, Oke, Owen, and the rest of the staff are just great, you just have to ask. The front room of the inn has every toy that you can imagine. (i mean like real toys that don't plug into the wall, most of them I had as a kid) The kids and I just had such a good time hanging out in that room. Rooms are clean and a great place to rest your head after a long hike or after a few beers. We were heading north bound on the long trail and needed a break on our bods, plus needed to re-calibrate our packs (aka make them lighter!) so we spent two nights at the Inn to do just that. We loved every aspect - the great Irish pub where we watched the olympics with Guinness on tap, the quiet lounge to rest our legs and read, the old-school style 3rd floor rooms that throw you back to how ski lodges used to be, but most of all was the service that amazed us. Owen is super attentive to every detail remembering our names, asking about our hike, and letting us know about all the local services and attractions. I found a paper brochure from my stay there 4 or 5 winters ago. Since my memory may not serve me in the future, I'm writing a very post-digestive review of the restaurant. I do remember, because it was THAT good, my Yankee Pot Roast. It may have been called something slightly different as I think it had Guinness in the recipe. Magnificent. Also, the ambience and the rustic features of the restaurant were amazing and creative. Built into a rock formation and hill, rocks served as features in the restaurant and fireplace. The bartop was made of a solid tree and ask the bartender for the story and age. I did stay for two or three nights and the staircase to the second floor was quite unique as well as the furniture (I will leave it as a surprise for you). Finally, Okee was the front desk caretaker and ask him the story behind settling in Killington and leaving the Bar behind! I guess I do remember quite a bit if this wonderful place... read more

What a legendary place! As a Long Trail thru-hiker, the setup was fantastic. We arrived in the rain and Owen came from the bar to kindly greet us, telling jokes, and asking questions about the trail. He set us up with a room, gave us our packages, and also gave us a change of clothes that we could wear while we did our laundry. Additionally, there is a hiker box with tons of food and fuel. Great place to restock. After cleaning up, we headed down to McGrath's, where Murray took great care of us. What a legend Murray McGrath is, as the this owner can tell stories, bartend, wait, and just be a very hospitable person. We decided to stay an extra day! This was an excellent stop on my 2016 Appalachian Trail thru-hike! That game room alone made us wish we could stay longer, but the whole lobby/lounge area was perfect for plain old-fashioned enjoyment of one another's company. Lots of cozy couches, great coffee table books, chess sets, and instruments. I imagine it's the perfect place for some friends and family bonding. The food was great, the Guinness was perfectly poured, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I love when I feel like a regular on my first stop in. One of my favorite places.. Ive spent New years and many nights here, very nice people, always the same bartender, a great Vermont pub. Its located right below Deer's Leap, which is a nice hike up the mountain to a great view of Pico. Nice fireplace and irish pub (get the potatoe skins and stick around for the great irish music with different bands weekly) with the luxery of cheap decent rooms. a great place stop and have a beer if you happen to be driving up the mountain to Killington. the pub area fits abround 30-45 people id say. read more
