The hotel is a glorified motel with a nice backyard. Which by the way, we didn't even get to see. We had a view of the parking lot with zero privacy. Nobody even instructed us how to find the yard. We had to search for it. Second, two different people walked into our hotel room with keys. Thank goodness we were just sitting on the couch, but an hour after we checked in someone came in and an hour before we checked out someone came in. That is so unacceptable it's shocking. Third, when we tried to check in they had no idea how much I owed and talked to me about someone else's credit card info. I had to tell them what I owed. We gave them a card and instead they charged the one on file for incidentals. Not only did they hold money on the wrong card, but they did it three times! So instead of $100 hold on the wrong card, we had $300 on the wrong card. The room is about as basic as a room could possibly be. No perks and barely even any art or anything. The room has a paper thin blanket on it and the wall ac/heating unit smells like fire when it's working and is very loud. The bathroom is so stark white and boring with a giant crack in the wall. Had we paid $100-$200 for this night we'd let this all go, but we paid $420 for this absolute scam of a hotel. Not to mention, the hotel is under construction and remodeling so there are workers everywhere and every room is open and being worked on. If you want a peaceful trip to Woodstock, pick a different location. If we weren't only staying one night, we would have asked for a refund on night two and left. The only two pros: 1. It's walking distance from the cute city. 2. The people working are very kind and friendly, albeit unhelpful.

The weirdest part of the stay was that there is no host to check guests in or help with issues. It is completely virtual! You press the button on a doorbell camera and someone answers after like 5 min. I had to press it several times to get a response at 10 am in the day of my checkout. The response was the staff doesn't show up until 11 am; which is the checkout time. There is a text number but the person or AI agent on the other end clearly is not the innkeeper or anyone capable of making decisions. They/It provided faulty information and was the opposite of helpful. If this is what the future of hospitality looks like, I am not impressed. My family rented two rooms on the first floor. One room facing the back of the property was nice but the other one (#15) was very small and had two windows overlooking the front porch and yard. Unfortunately there are chairs just outside of the windows and someone kept sitting in one of them and talking on her phone. It was very uncomfortable to have the shades open and have someone sitting right there. Because of this we had to keep the curtains drawn and with the room being so small, it felt like we were in a cave. Basically, it sounds like staying at the Jackson used to be a very nice experience but new owners/management are now trying to run the hotel as cheaply as possible. Guests are noticing.

The bed was comfortable, and the fan and air conditioning were easy to control so we could sleep comfortably. The shower works very well with good pressure and heat. There is a small TV if you feel like watching anything, but definitely enjoy the area instead! The Vermont Inn has a bar inside that closes at 9pm. We didn't try it, but it looked so nice and cozy. If you purchase directly through the website, then breakfast is included each morning. Every day they offer pancakes, french toast, or eggs and bacon, and then there is a daily special omelette. We tried omelettes, french toast, and pancakes, and all were quite good. And the coffee is surprisingly tasty. It appears to be a family operation with the kids taking orders. There are many cozy public rooms to sit, play board games, read or just talk. The hosts Mike and Kayla were very friendly and accomodating. The location is perfect as it is minutes away from Killington and Pico mountains. The views from the lawn of the mountains are stunning. Rooms were excellent and there was plenty of space. There is a Sauna and pool outside during the summer months. We met a couple that were staying there and planning their wedding with the hosts and it sounded like it was going to be fantastic. They also host bridal showers and other events. The breakfasts were fantastic and our waiters Emerson and Jameson provided excellent service. Thanks to Mike, Kayla and family for great memories. I would highly recommend The Vermont Inn and we will definitely be back.

Also, the outlets were a problem because my hair dryer wasn't working at full power and the lights would all dim when I turned it on-glad I didn't blow a fuse. The dinner (pork medallions with a scant bit of maple glaze, a huge pile of cooked carrots and rice) was okay but the breakfast (a soggy ground turkey breakfast burrito) was really gross. I couldn't eat it. They packed our lunch which had a tortilla rolled up with some turkey inside. I decided to pass on this so I can't discuss the flavor, but there were two granola bars which sustained me until dinner. I can't even say that the wine was good. If you are looking for an inn type experience as we were, you might want to keep looking.

Breakfasts were excellent, with pancake, omelet, and other options, fresh cooked to order every morning. Shout out to the pancakes which are out of this world. This is a wonderful B&B. You don't have the tavern, restaurant, and spa that you would have at the Woodstock Inn, but you do have the much larger room. It's the difference between a B&B and an inn. Lots and lots of history here !! I also learned that for here, the "first floor" means one flight up from the lobby, and the "first floor" is NOT on the ground floor nor where the lobby is. Learn something new everyday. In fact, this inn does not appear to have rooms on the ground floor or where the lobby is, but if they do, I just don't know where that would be. The dining room, kitchen and bar appear to be what exists on the main floor. Regardless of all that, our room upstairs was beautifully appointed and spacious, and our king-size bed with its fluffy pillows was so inviting and comfortable. It was beautiful !! We slept so very well. I wish we had booked for more than one night. Our room rate included a warm-cooked breakfast the next morning. For an additional fee, we ate our dinner at the Vic Tavern, as well. (Those will be reviewed under the Vic Tavern.) The owners were very nice and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with them and staying at their inn. We'd come back here in a heartbeat, so if we are ever fortunate enough to return to Vermont, we'd easily return to Woodstock and this lovely B&B.

They answered every email inquiry we had over the 11-ish months of planning our wedding within 1-2 days. And we'd never planned something like this before, so we had a LOT of questions. They made it incredibly easy to plan all the details specific to their venue (every available amenity, dimensions, etc.) without requiring additional onsite visits. They have a default Wedding Weekend plan down to a science, and respected all of our desired deviations from that default plan while still offering specific advice from their years of experience.  The venue itself is lovely. Our guests complimented the quality of the rooms and the beauty of the natural scenery. It's perfectly situated for guests to easily take nature walks, hikes, or ride to the top of Killington peak in their free time.     They provided the services of a Wedding Planner for us as part of their base package, and they 100% delivered beyond our expectations in this regard too. When our primary reception caterer failed to provide services they were contracted for (setting dishware/tableware, washing dishes, filling water glasses), Josh and Anne jumped into action and completely took over. They tableset our entire reception, washed all the dishes themselves, and filled water glasses to ensure dinner could be served as early as possible. When our caterer even forgot one of the primary entrees, Trailside already had a backup plan to order emergency pizzas from nearby and settle the cost at a later date. Even outside the scope of a catering disaster, they consistently helped us to unload and organize our décor, keep the bonfire lit and warm, and kept s'more tables and other amenities stocked. They truly did not have to perform at the level they did, but they even employed additional helpers as needed to make sure we were never behind schedule. It let us truly relax and enjoy the company of our loved ones rather than stressing about logistics.   If you decide to book a wedding at Trailside, please relax knowing the fact that Josh and Anne are looking out for you and will help steer you in the right direction throughout the process- having a very natural schedule, easy room booking process, and picking quality vendors (they only onboarded our failed reception caterer by exception to their standard list and by my wife and I's explicit request - they no longer approve that vendor for weddings at Trailside). If you're deciding between venues, my wife and I would wholeheartedly recommend you pick Trailside and sleep easy knowing your wedding will go smoothly and beautifully.
