Our room, don't mind the suitcase

We had a WONDERFUL time staying here!! Matt was awesome and explain all of the things they offer while staying there. Our room was beautiful and just what we needed for our getaway! The fireplace and tub and deck drew us to the room we picked! Got to walk by the lake, see deer super close, hear owls and had the best French toast for breakfast! If you are around this area it is so worth the stop! Room was clean and QUIET! They also had a fire pit if requested and the main house you could gather play games etc.

This place is such a nice and wonderful gem. My husband's family has been coming to this inn for the past generation. I have to admit the main house could use some sprucing up. When I first stepped in, it gave me grandma's house vibes, but after staying in the cabins, I absolutely love this place. The owner Ivan and the manager Matt are super nice and friendly. Even the their cat is super nice and friendly and will try to follow you home. I love that Matt has a bat house by the heated pool, because there were NO mosquitos. I was really worried about bugs because they love me. I didn't get bit once, even when by the lake. The lake is really nice for a man made lake, but it's not for swimming. If you catch fish, it's great for catching fish. Just remember no live bait as it would contaminate the lake. We stayed in the cedar room and it is a large cabin with hot tub for two and a shower that fits a big group of people if you wanted. There is a gas fireplace or at night you can head over to the nice firepit. Matt will witle you some sticks and give you some marshmallows or you should bring your own s'mores ingredients. There are bikes for riding, badminton on the ground. Lots of hammocks around the grounds. Saw some deers frollicking on the grounds. It's a nice place for families. We had a mini family reunion here and it was perfect. There is a grill at the eagle's nest room that is connected off of the cabin. They have electric chargers if you drive an electric car. The breakfast is amazing, fresh fruit, fresh pumpkin loaf, pancakes, and waffles, with eggs, bacon, potatoes. So delicious. They also give you a bagged sandwich for lunch too. Not much in the vending machine, so if you need anything you'll have to go into town. Love that they provide liquid aroma oil pods for the hot tub too, you come out smelling like lavender or jasmine. The beds are sleep numbers, so make sure you adjust properly.

Beautiful area, we loved the interior decorations and the land. Lake is a brisk walk away, breakfast was delicious, overall we definitely plan on coming back.

The Inn at Lake Joseph was the perfect spot for us to relax on our mini-moon. First, the service is excellent. Matt is so warm, friendly, and wants to make sure everything is going great. Next, the space is rustic, romantic, and charming. I love that it's tucked away, so peaceful and quiet. Our room (Cedar) was superb. We loved the warm fire place, spacious jacuzzi, our own deck, etc, etc. We loved starting each day on the lake (row boats and kayaks), where one morning we saw a bald eagle! They serve breakfast and picnic lunches. The breakfast can be served in their main lounge or at your room. We appreciated being able to eat in our room by the fire in the mornings. Lastly, we love the area that it's in. There are so many fun destinations to visit in the surrounding area. Overall, we highly recommend the Inn at Lake Joseph for anyone who wants a relaxing getaway. We will certainly be back for anniversaries!

We just returned home from our anniversary weekend at the inn at lake Joseph and we had such a nice time. We loved how secluded and romantic it was. We stayed in the cedar room and it met all our expectations and more. Breakfast was delivered to our room daily. Lunch was provided to us too and everything was delicious. There was so much to do on the property from swimming to going to the lake and so much more . Matt was so helpful with so many great suggestions. We hope to come back next year.

I stayed at the Inn at Lake Joseph for two nights and had an amazing time. I read a lot of reviews on this place...most were positive but a few negative reviews almost swayed me to go somewhere else....I'm glad I didn't. After staying there, I can confidently recommend this place and label the negative reviews as nit picking or simply misleading readers for whatever their motivations may be. The main Lodge is a rustic, well preserved building that is oozing with history and authenticity. Upon entering the hallway, you'll see a portrait of Monique, the late wife of owner Ivan, who tragically died at a young age in 1984 with her bonnet laid out on a table. There's a pool table to the left, and a game room to the right complete with a working piano, board games, and a giant chess set. We got a gold room which was very spacious and had a large jacuzzi just feet away from the bed! Beautiful wood pieces adorn the ceiling, the bathroom was new and modern, the shower area was HUGE, and it had a working gas fireplace. Everything is maintained beautifully, not a spec of dust anywhere. The bed is a sleep number bed which is cool bc you can adjust the firmness of either side. Granted, it wasn't as comfy as my amazing latex mattress from PlushBeds, but it did the job and I slept well. This is another falsehood of past Yelp reviews...the matress not does not sink in at all if you set the number to firm! Another thing I found, in contrast to that negative review, is that the WiFi is great and I had a strong signal from anywhere on the property. What really sets this place apart, aside from the beautiful grounds and relaxing Catskills setting, is the personal service from the innkeepers. Matt, the stepson of Ivan, was very friendly and accommodating to all of our needs. He knew I liked decaf coffee so he brewed me a fresh pot often and he even loaned me a sweater after I forgot one! Pro tip- it gets chilly in early September so make sure you bring a sweater and long pants. Ivan the owner is very friendly and joined us for breakfast to chat and practice his card trick. They seem to enjoy having guests and engaging with the family is a really nice touch. There is tons to do...they have a heated outdoor pool with a super comfy hammock on the pool deck. The day we arrived (right after labor day), the pool was unfortunately not heated and quite cold but I was told it was after season. Having the pool heated would've been great. The lake is a short walk from the inn through the forest and it leads to a 2 mile hike or you can use the rowboats with the supplied oars. I enjoyed rowing on the lake but next time will explore the surrounding area for hiking paths. The trail was ok, there were a ton of spiderwebs in the way due to the proximity of the branches and shrubs. The breakfast is terrific with fresh banana bread, toast with a ton of delicious jams to try, and made to order omlettes, pancakes, or French toast with bacon and hash browns. Service is fast too so you're on your way or you can enjoy a leasurely meal on the outdoor deck. There are a bunch of nearby restaurants but I recommend Solaia. The upscale Italian restaurant has excellent food and excellent service...and homemade tiramisu! In all, I had a terrific time and will definitely be back. The rooms are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Don't be swayed by the few negative reviews, go check it out for yourself and you will be pleasantly surprised. Thanks Ivan and Matt!!

Just stayed here for our anniversary! The grounds were picturesque. The room in the carriage house was spacious, rustic and warm! Loved the fireplace and jacuzzi tub! Matt was the inn keeper and he was so helpful and absolutely lovely. Breakfast was delicious and the bagged lunch was perfect. We brought our dog which was great and they even gave us a doggy sheet for the bed so he wouldn't get dog hair everywhere. We are definitely coming back!

My hubby and I just spent a night for our 30th anniversary! Wow, amazing property. So pretty and the grounds kept immaculate but wait it gets better the Inn is immaculate everything so clean even the screens on the windows. Sheets on the bed soooo soft. The breakfast was awesome! Cherries for breakfast my fav. Eggs made to order, croissants, French toast country jams it was perfect! Salads, cold cuts, bread, coffe, available all day. Delicious! The staff always ready to please . The lake, picturesque, the pool heated and so relaxing. I highly recommend this property!

We enjoyed two evenings at this lovely inn, and would happily return. Peaceful, tranquil, serene... all adjectives to describe this, tucked away in the woods, Catskills B & B. The staff (especially Michelle) were all welcoming and helpful. The Breakfast was spectacular, with a wide variety of options.... eggs, homemade granola, pancakes, fresh fruit, and my favorite - the home smoked fresh salmon, with horseradish sauce. I was in heaven! Additionally, they kept a fridge stocked with complimentary salads, cheese, meats, and condiments, just in case you get hungry. And, let's not forget the homemade sweets. Oh my.... Then, there is the property.... although the inn is not sitting directly on the water it is a short walk, bicycle ride, or 1 minute drive away. Bicycles, kayaks, and canoes are provided. Then there is the stunning heated pool, badminton, pool table, numerous board games and a small library of books. You will not want for something to do! Lastly, and the reason I've given our review a 4 instead of 5 stars, our room. We stayed in the main house and were very pleased with the location. The room was very clean. Sadly, the decor is quite dated, and seemed to be a mix of 1970-80 furniture. The bathtub, with whirlpool, was extremely dated. We did, however, love the charming in-room fireplace! With that being said... we would return tomorrow. And, would highly recommend!

Every inch felt welcoming and comfortable for our family of four. The waterfall at the Stratton Falls campus was absolutely stunning and incredibly relaxing. Falling asleep to the sound of the water from our deck made the experience feel truly special. Even with the cold weather, there were still plenty of activities to keep our family entertained. Between the waterfalls, game room, Netflix, life-sized chess, foosball, air hockey, the Crooked Cabana bar, hot tub, and dry sauna -- this place truly has it all. A special thank you to Chuck for making our Mother's Day weekend even more memorable than we could have imagined. From the cookies and coffee to the kids' welcome packets, every detail reflected warmth and care. We could not imagine a more family-friendly and welcoming experience. This was our third stay here, and it somehow keeps getting better every time. We already cannot wait to come back again and bring even more of our family with us next time.

Our bagged breakfast was missing a few items we ordered. That really was not ideal, as we had a long drive ahead of us to the city. So we ended up having to stop to get a couple of things since what we planned on having was not there. Also, the wait for someone to be at check in was long. We went to the Stratton falls first accidentally. It's 2.5 miles from where our location was. Apparently, the guy at check in saw us and knew we were at the wrong property (they were full at that location) but didn't tell us when he saw us. (We didn't see him). When my son finally found someone (that guy) he said "I saw you when you came in and knew you went to the wrong place...". Ok.... So you just let us stand around for 12 min, before we went searching for you? He wouldn't even give us more than "it's down the road." Directions to the other place. That guy was an awful first impression. The lady at our location was lovely, but he made the initial feeling stick with me. So, customer service sucked because of him. I had friends that came to meet us from 30 min away and had to wait an additional 20 min thanks to that guy. Would I suggest it? If the service continues like it was... no. Fun themes though. I hear they moved to new ownership, so maybe that's what is going on.

With a little luck, I managed to book a room for two nights during Labor Day weekend with only about a week's notice at the Botsford Briar. I found it on the internet, having never before been to Beacon, a little escape I had planned because of hiking, kayaking, the Dia: Beacon, the boat to tour Bannerman Castle, and Main Street were all within walking distance. I arrived quite early on Saturday via train and headed up to Main Street. I had a kayaking tour reservation and had planned to do that before checking in at Bostford Briar. However, when there was some miscommunication and the tour left without me, the folks at Mountain Top outdoor store called the proprietors of the Botsford Briar (yeah, it's that small of a town) to see if I could check in early. And all was well; they were happy to take me early. My room was ready and I headed over...and up the rather steep hill of High Street. Charlie met me halfway up the hill and insisted on taking my bag the rest of the way. The house is charming and looks just as it does on the website photo. Inside, it's filled with curiosities on the first floor. I met Shirley there too. Throughout my stay, she and Charlie were wonderful. They took the time to try to find an alternate kayaking solution for me, suggested restaurants, went to the trouble of having my breakfast ready quite early on my last morning there since I had to leave before the normal time, etc. I stayed in the Wisteria Room, which was lovely. The bed was comfy. There were a couple of chairs as well as a table with two dining chairs with bottles of water on a tray. In case it was needed, there was an AC unit. Lots of sunlight could come in through the generous windows (though you could pull curtains and shades too). Wifi was free. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but I didn't watch it so, who really cares? The room had wonderful charm and was clearly lovingly decorated. The bathroom was a private one down the hall. However, they've thoughtfully added a curtain one can pull to really make that whole wing private (so you don't feel odd walking to the bathroom in your pajamas; nobody can see you). I loved the claw foot tub and had a nice soak each night. It was a large bathroom with nice towels and was meticulously clean. I spent a good portion of both evenings watching the sunset on the beautiful shared deck out back. It's at the top of High Street and you can see down and across the Hudson River. It's beautiful and a wonderful quiet spot (or a place to chat with other guests, as I did the second evening). Also shared for the guests is a small room with a fridge, cupboard (thoughtfully stocked with glasses, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc.), and a single serving coffee maker for anything you wanted to make or store yourself. Breakfast was quite generous. There was one freshly baked (and still warm!) item each day along with other breads, a fantastic fruit plate, juice, and coffee. The only thing I would have added would have been a hard boiled egg or something so that I could get in a little protein. But with what was provided, I really wasn't lacking at all in nourishment. It's brought to your room at your chosen time on a tray. The location is great. It's easy walking distance to the train station, Dia: Beacon, boat launch, and Main Street. It's within walking distance of a trail head for hiking as well though you should know that it's a long hike in itself up Main Street to reach it. I'm so glad I came to Botsford Briar to get away. It's so clear how much love (and personal talent/handiwork) Charlie and Shirley have put into the place. And they really take pride in making it a wonderful retreat. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself back there again when weary of the city.

The decor of the room and the b&b are not my particular taste, cluttered, heavy fabrics, heavy wooded furniture. Taste is subjective though and I could imagine another person may enjoy. The air conditioner is positioned in such a way that it blows directly on the bed. I found sitting out on the deck to be noisier than we hoped for...can hear the train whistle and cars on a road in the distance. The morning breakfast spread had coffee, juice, pastries and fruit, none of which were of the best quality. I only met Charlie who was friendly and very helpful. I spoke to a woman who I believe is the owner by phone while booking and when we were likely to arrive after their 9pm time limit and our phone personalities did not mesh well.
