The time from start to repaired and on the road was impressive. They communicated the details thoroughly through the repair process as well. I was already working with Scott at Michigan Sandblasting and planned to have my Jeep's underbody sandblasted there. Rashid told me they could apply POR-15 afterward, so based on that I paid to have the Jeep towed down there. After it arrived, everything changed. Rashid started questioning the project and for over a week I was given the runaround. Multiple times Rashid told me he would "talk to Scott figure out a solution and call me back," but the call back never happened. Every time I followed up I got the same vague response and nothing actually moved forward. Rashid knew all of the details prior to me towing it down there. If this wasn't a job they wanted to take on, that should have been communicated from the beginning instead of telling me to bring the vehicle down and spend money towing it there. It's extremely frustrating to be told something can be done, only to have the shop avoid giving a straight answer after the vehicle is already there. Very disappointing and unprofessional way to handle a customer. I wasted time and money because they couldn't simply be upfront about whether they were willing to do the work.

I let him know that I wanted to bring my car in and that it had a few issues. He asked me about the issues but was very short with me and only allowed me to tell him 1 of the 3 issues I had. I was also told I would have to make an appointment and drop it off. I don't see where it says appointments only on the site and that you can't wait for your car. Next day I took my car in and told him I was inquiring about 3 issues( my car stalling, heat issue, and just a check to make sure the car was safe for driving (that things look tight and good) I literally waited there from 8am till 1:30 200$ later Just to be told they couldn't find out why my car stalls. ( My car stalled today so I still have the issue). Which was disappointing so then I asked about the other two issues only to find that all the time my car stayed back there the did not check the heat issue, nor lift it just to take a look if everything looked good. He handed me back my keys and told me that I would have to come a different day to get the other issues looked at. Meaning more diagnostics and more $. My car stalled on the way home as well. I thought I could still rely on this place because they seemed reasonable the first time I did business with them and they had a motto that they cared about struggling women/ households. But 200$ was too much to pay just to be told nothing is wrong then my car stalling (still is) on the way home with 4 children in the car as well depend on it. Will not be returning and will be taking my business elsewhere.

Updated 07/06/2025…read more THIS IS LIE In addition if you look at the other reviews that Joseph leaves everyone else you will clearly see a review from another shop regarding the control arms. Updated: 09/27/2024 Based upon Brett's reply, The one with the selective hearing is Brett. He did not seem to care about what i had to say. Seeking a second opinion, another mechanic told me if he's a master mechanic he knew right well it was only a dry bushing causing the problem since their are only few things that it could be based on the symptoms. He told me that Brett was trying to upsell me. I don't know if that's the case or not. I hope not. For the record: I brought my 2007 Honda to Brett's garage for a diagnostic. After Brett had replaced the control arms on both sides and replaced right calipar I continued to experience a pulling to the right, even while in drive, but even sitting still as I would touch the brake the steering wheel would pull to the right. I told Brett about this on a number of occasions even took a drive with him, but he insisted that it was a $1500 job to fix it. The other mechanic in the shop also took it for a drive and said the steering was goofy. As you will learn below, it ended up being a lack of grease in a bushing. I asked Brett if my car was safe and he said he would drive it to California. I told Brett that I was very concerned on a number of occasions about the safety of the vehicle and I did not feel safe But he insisted that the problem was only going to be fixed for $1500.00. After picking up my car from his auto clinic and taking a 2 Hour drive with my wife returning home, there was a metal on metal loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. When I contacted Brett by text, I told him that they must've missed something and he told me to bring it by and he would take a look at it. My text: "I tried to send you a video of this loud noise that the right side wheel is making when I turn the steering wheel after getting back from a two hour ride. It's a metal to metal sound. How did you guys miss this?" Brett: "There was no noise at all from the right side of the vehicle while it was here. stop back by and I will check it out for you." When I showed up. He became enraged and told me in the future to find another shop. He told me to give him my keys and he would put it on the lift and take a look at. While the grinding noise was still very present metal on metal and upon a deeper inspection, they found that there was a need for grease in a bushing. I watched as they move the wheel back-and-forth, and the sound went away as they added the grease to a bushing. I tried to cool Brett down tried to talk nicely to him told him I would like to continue to give him my business. I didn't want to go to another shop and he told me that he was busy after shaking my hand. He told me to take my business somewhere else find another shop. Brett appears to be a nice person, but there's a nasty side to him if you rub him the wrong way. I tried to talk to him before I left and he said I'm busy right now. I guess he forgot about all the money I spent there. Beware of these proud machanics that feel challanged when you question their 40 years of expertise and continue to tell you over and over they are a "master machanic" and brag about awards "best business in town. Nevermind all the bragging, JUST SHOW ME. After all, I am paying you. After a costly process of elimination and trial and error and new spark plugs and replacing the valve cover gasket my 2007 Honda is running more smoothly. After replacing both the control arms and adding grease to a bushing, the pulling on the steering wheel when stepping on the brake has stopped and the horrible metal on metal grinding has altogether ceased. I'm so glad it wasn't something more expensive like ball joints, or a 1500.00 fix as he insisted. I don't know how a master mechanic of 40 years could tell me that I needed something that was going to cost 1500.00 when all it needed was some grease added to a bushing. Taking his advice, even if i had not been trespassed i would not return. Upon his demand, I will be taking my business elsewhere. Thank you Brett.

The caveat to the recommendation was, Hal's was being acquired by Detroit Garage and their recommendation was Hal's NOT under the new ownership. Subsequently, I was pleased with Hal's for a few years, services centered around brakes and oil changes. Fast forward, and I took my son's car to Hal's for an oil change. From the start, I noticed something different about the shop - no one was in the waiting area and not a lot of activity in general. I had a 09:00am appointment for an oil change. I was told no more than 1 hour. I left to take a walk. Upon my return at 10:15am, service was not done. In the meantime, a representative from Detroit Garage came in to talk to the service manager. It was clear, the visit was about metrics and staffing. Seems a number of folks left and they were under-staffed and not making their metrics and had a lot of issues with that location. Around 11:00am, the person at the front desk was aware my patience was thinning. He explained the tech could not get the air filter off. RED FLAG. At 11:30am, the car was finally ready - that means 2.5 hour for a SCHEDULED oil change. I left in a rush. About 1 hour later, the shop called. The tech forgot to put the lug nut caps on and asked if I could come back so they could put them on. 2nd, trip and more of time. OK, I went and grabbed the box and said I would do it myself. RED FLAG. Later in the day, I noticed oil on and around the door handle. Later found oil on the door rocker bar and the floor matt. What a mess. I called the shop to explain what I discovered and shared my overall poor experience. The person on the phone assured me they would refund the oil change, would waive service fee for the next oil change and would clean the car. I told them, thank for for that, but I would clean the car because I was not coming back a 3rd time and also already started to clean the affected areas. Of course, 15 minutes later, I received a call and voicemail that they would require photos. So, yet another inconvenience to me on top of a horrible overall experience for what was supposed to be a simple oil change. To top things off, they never sent me a customer feedback survey which was historically their practice - I guess you don't receive one if you experience issues so they can control the narrative and reviews. After a few weeks, I reviewed by credit card statement - no refund. Sorry to see Hal's go and be replaced by Detroit Garage / corporate.

Our BMW needed to have the fuel pump replaced. We had arrangements to use another car as the repair was going to take a couple days. Drop off of the car was smooth. A couple days later my husband called to check on the status of the car and they had not even started the repair! So, what was the point of having an appointment for a repair to only have it sitting in their lot!? After the weekend they began working on the car and after having the car for 7 days the repair was finally done. That is when the trouble started with the BMW. Super long story short, I can not recommend this place. My husband had a huge issue that started once he pulled out of Automotive Technique. My husband did talk to Automotive Technique about the issue, but in the end we went to the another service shop who fixed everything correctly. I can not recommend this place. I don't like leaving 1 star reviews, but I have to in this situation. Edited on 2-13: after getting a message from Jeff J on 2-12 regarding more info I sent him the invoice and mentioned it was not a fuel pump repair but oil filter housing. Jeff's response was, "ok, I am fully aware of this one. This is one of 9 comebacks and one of 2 comebacks that was a big repair. Thanks for the input. ". The reason for my review is that our BMW's engine went into Automotive Techniques with no problems other than the minor leak of the oil filter housing. Immediately after the service, the engine made a noticeable ticking sound that was later diagnosed as spun rod bearings. The reader can decide for themselves.
