I arrived on time and was seen promptly, but after running diagnostics, I was told: Battery health must be below 80% The phone must be under 30% charge The cost would be $79.99 They would not replace the battery because I do not have AppleCare and "Apple would not allow them to" When I pointed out that Apple sent me here, the response was, "Yes, they do that. Sorry." This appointment should never have been scheduled if the service could not be performed. The lack of transparency wasted time and travel and reflects poor coordination with Apple. Recommendation: skip this location and go directly to an Apple Store to avoid the frustration.

Not knowing any better, I made an appointment with the "Geek Squad" at Best Buy, who qouted me $500-$2000 for an "advanced repair ATTEMPT"?!?!!? Distraught, I came to Altex and was quickly greeted by Matt and the store manager Jacob Wiese. Explaining my problem, they offered to attempt repair for a nominal charge- how reassuring! Jacob broke down the concepts of disc drives and solid state drives into terms I could understand [thank you!] - so I immediately purchased a new portable solid state drive. I left my "broken" hard drive with them- feeling much more confident in their skills. Within 2 days they called to inform me they were able to access the data and transfer it to the new SSD! While I am impressed with their technical expertise, I am MORE grateful for their kind, patient, customer-friendly demeanor- helping those of us who are novices and helplessly lost. My job as a professional nurse has been to help explain medical terms/procedures to patients who are confused and anxious. What a wonderful experience to meet computer professionals who are willing to help do the same thing when an anxious customer comes in. I brought my GameCube into this shop expecting a straightforward diagnostic and repair. I was initially told that I would receive an update relatively quickly. Instead, I spent over three weeks chasing them down myself, making multiple calls just to get any kind of status update. Communication was essentially nonexistent unless I initiated it. When I finally did get a response, I was told they couldn't even properly assess the system because they didn't have the correct visual cables to test a GameCube. That alone was surprising--how does a repair shop accept a console they aren't equipped to test? It gets worse. When I arrived in person, Devin D told me that they had been able to see the GameCube working while it was in the shop. This directly contradicted what I had just been told over the phone. So which is it? Either the system was tested successfully, or it wasn't even viewable due to missing equipment. The inconsistency felt dishonest and left me with zero confidence in anything I was being told. At that point, I asked for a refund due to the lack of progress and the conflicting information. I was told that a manager would follow up with me regarding the refund, but given the pattern of poor communication and contradictory statements, I have little faith that will actually happen without further effort on my end. Overall, this was a disappointing and unnecessarily stressful experience. Between the long delays, lack of basic equipment, and inconsistent explanations, it felt like my time--and trust--were not respected. In hindsight, I would have been better off attempting the repair myself or going elsewhere. I strongly recommend others think twice before bringing their devices here.
