The vinard is onsite and I believe they help other local wineries in the area to make wine. The employees were great, so friendly and knowledgeable. There was live music. Pros:This vineyard is a delight for history lovers--it was built in the early 1800s and has served many purposes over the years, including a boys' school, a Union troop garrison during the Civil War, Washington Academy, a courthouse, and even a dairy farm. The tasting room is spacious and comfortable, with tables and couches perfect for relaxing with friends. There's also a charming gift shop, along with a selection of cheeses and snacks available for purchase. Cons:I tried the five-red tasting for $12, but none of the wines were especially memorable. The pours were inconsistent, with some wines served as one sip, some two, and others three. The cheeses for purchase are pricey, with 4 oz costing $13. The most significant issue was the wine glasses--each sip had a strong odor reminiscent of dirty sponge water, indicating that their glass-cleaning process needs major improvement. Overall: A charming vineyard with rich history and a comfortable tasting space, but the wines didn't impress and snacks are pricey. Great for the atmosphere, less so for the tasting. First visit to Ingleside. The courtyard is very nice and relaxing- a canopy of trees keeps it shady. Wines are pretty true to their names. Mostly dry reds. Whites are great (I prefer whites, but appreciate the reds). Not many Virginia wineries offer Albariño, but I recommend trying it at Ingleside. This Vineyard has been around since 1980. They have a huge campus and very friendly staff. In addition to the actually vineyard, they have a court yard, a museum, an event room, a picnic area, and a tasting/tour room that doubles as a gift shop. The vineyard has more than ample parking and a very friendly staff. The courtyard has a huge water fountain in the center and some tables and benches. Some of the tables were under cover. There is a bar out on the patio as well, where you can buy glasses or full bottles of wine. Keep an eye out for the small replica Washington Monument on the patio. Its pretty cool. The museum, which is off of the courtyard has local Indian artifacts, indigenous animals, and history of the area. The event room, which is also off of the courtyard and has an entrance in the front from the parking lot. There are tables and chairs in there that can be arranged to suit the event. They are not currently do tastings, but the tasting/tour room can be accessed from the courtyard and the picnic area. It serves as a gift shop where you can buy bottles of wine, sauces, toys and other souvenirs. It is decent sized and packed with stuff. The picnic table is an open field that has picnic tables on it. It is a nice area that can be used for outdoor events on a nice day. This vineyard is a beautiful place and is nice to just hang out on a beautiful day. They have a wonderful staff, flavorful and reasonable wine. I recommend checking this place out if you are anywhere near the area. read more

The vineyard courtyard space is inviting to take your time with your wine. The wine tasting attendant was as sweet as she could be. My wine palette could not find agreeable wine but with her persistence the winner in taste was found. It was nice I thought samples were small for $12 and they had no food truck or music luckily I brought our own food! And water! I wouldn't go back without music or foo truck and I definitely wouldn't do the samples! In my opinion samples should be free if gonna be that small and they should clean table off outside before they open and put up umbrellas we had to clean our chairs off and I had a table cloth but all in all we had fun not sure I would rush back we bought glasses of wine after that cheesy samples glasses were $7 each the staff was friendly inside selling the wine but never saw any staff outside cleaning we sat in area that was smoking we don't smoke but we liked the chairs better and it was sunny bathroom from very clean so that was a plus! What a lovely winery! Beautiful scenery, gorgeous outdoor seating area, rooms for events, nice tours and rustic, old world decor. The wines are good and reasonably priced. The tasting is informative and you'll get a generous pour. The gift shop is a bit pricey but cute finds. The music scene is cool too, I've been to several shows here and always have a good time! The restrooms are awkwardly located in an event room, across from the patio and outside of the tasting room. We had to walk into a party that was being held there and we felt like wedding crashers... but it couldn't be helped, it was a wine pressing issue! read more

Visited with the first time with our in-laws that were visiting from out of town and it did not disappoint. The setting is great and we were super comfortable is a room off to the side to enjoy tastings and some snacks. The staff is very friendly and the wines are exceptional. I normally really enjoy maybe two or three out of ten samples but I think I was at five "wows" on my notes as I tried them. This was my first visit here this year (and probably 4th visit overall), but they changed enough I felt a new review was warranted. Recap: Ingleside is the 2nd oldest winery in Virginia. My $8 tasting had more reds than last time, although they were still running low on reds overall (something which should be corrected by late summer). What justifies a bump up from 3 to 4 stars is the introduction of two reds blends - Left Bank and Right Bank - and their Sangiovese. Both blends were excellent, and exactly the style of bold reds that made me fall in love with Ingleside in the first place. While the Left Bank was smoother, I bought the Right Bank, which was bolder. They also had a new (2013) Sangiovese, which was lighter than others I'm accustomed too, but that wasn't a bad thing. I also liked the "Blue Crab" red table wine, which they served chilled. I stand by my previous remark that if you happen to see any of their 2007 Black label wines, BUY THEM IMMEDIATELY. The 2007 "Virginia Gold" is probably my all time favorite Virginia wine. The Cab Sav was also excellent, and the reason I discovered Ingleside in the first place. Somehow I missed out on the Petit Verdot! read more

What a beautiful, peaceful place to enjoy a glass of wine in the courtyard. We found this place on our way to the Belle Grove Plantation, so we decided to make it part of our day. The venue is idyllic. Complete with a greek goddess like statue. The main tasting room was so dark that I could barely see in front of me. Felt like a semi-blind taste test LOL. I ended up buying a few wines. I also happened to visit the same day as the annual Estate Club fete. I got to mix and mingle and meet new people, though not participate as I was not a member that day. They had a food vendor that had the best fried oysters I've had and they also happen to have a brick and mortar in Colonial Beach. I fell in love with Ingleside's Sangiovese (sold out and for good reason). For all the positives, the one downside was except for the young lady doing my tasting, I did not feel welcome by the other staff at all. Thankfully, the Estate Club members made me feel at home and welcome even if Ingleside vineyard staff did not. Minus one star for not engendering an all-inclusive feeling, otherwise a nice place to un-wine. I learned that they even have cottages for overnight stays. read more

We really enjoyed this winery! The courtyard is beautiful and relaxing - I could have spent hours there. There was a dog on the premises that was friendly but not intrusive. The grounds in general were beautiful, sprawling and secluded. We did the $8 for 8 wines tasting and enjoyed it. Several veered sweet which I loved but my date was not thrilled about the sweet ones. They had a well rounded offering though and they threw in 3-4 reserve wines as well, so if was a nice surprise bonus. I would definitely visit again! Not big by California standards but big enough, I learned a lot from the folks there...showing me that I got a long way to even consider myself a neophyte. For our last weekend together before R starts law school, we trekked out to VA wine country, with Ingleside as our primary destination. As one would think, the winery is "in the cut," as the kids say these days; so far out in the country. It is, in a word, beautiful. They let us wander through the vineyard and as I only heard the soft chirping of birds and the slight hum of bugs, I told R, "I forgot what silence sounds like." The winery itself was quite cool. The winemaker, Mr. Swain, gave us a tour and even let us try some of the wines straight from the barrel with this thingy called a wine thief, which was kinda like a turkey baster for alcohol theft. He's definitely an expert, explaining to us even the history and science of the barrels that hold the wine. Maybe because it was straight from the barrel, but I swear this wine was the most delicious I've ever had. My favorite was the cabernet sauvignon, followed by a malbec. Both were 2007 vintages and won't be bottled until late this year or even next year, so I can't wait to get some. (Sidenote: Apparently 2007 was a great year for wine in Virginia, so make sure you get yourself some when its finally bottled because it was scrumptious from the barrel.) We popped into the gift shop for some of said cab sav, Blue Crab Red (gooood stuff, man), and some Sweet Virginia Red that I expactorated because I hate sweet wine, but I knew my mum would love. We also picked up some red wine steak sauce (which is going to taste *AWESOME* with these t-bones I picked up), one of the tons of wine sauces available in the shop. Overall, I had a fantastic time. The winery was amazing, the vineyard is beautiful, the winemakers are superb, and the service was very friendly. Good Lord knows I'll be back for cases upon cases of those 2007 vintages. read more
