Very unpleasant experience, I got ignored by 3 different people before someone showed me where the banana pudding was.

I see that this is the big supermarket in the area. We stopped in to use the bathroom and get some coffee along the way to our weekend a getaway. It's pretty big in size. There is a Starbucks to your immediate right. Bathrooms were on the left across the store. I was shocked to see a video rental store inside. You don't see that anymore! There is also a Dropbox out front for the videos. They had a lot of bakery items and a whole candy section. I was also very impressed to see a charging station for cars. read more

Easy in and out. I found exactly what I needed - club soda! They had the usual brand selection in used to finding at other groceries so I could choose from my favorites! When we visit Asheville, it's not uncommon for us to stop at an Ingles as I find HEB overly pricey. read more

This is a 'super" supermarket. I wasn't needing to do grocery shopping, but I was nearby and thought I might pop in and see what these Asheville folks do for their shopping. I was seriously impressed. The store is as large as any Wal-Mart Supercenter that I've seen but the focus here is on the food. A great produce section. I mean, really good. Everything looked super fresh and clean. An section where you could make fresh peanut or cashew butter. Lots and lots and LOTS of groceries. A massive butchery section with everything looking really pretty. Prices seemed decent. About 10 to 15% higher than Wal-Mart in my wild guessification. But you get what looks like better quality and better selection and there's nothing wrong with that at all. I was not surprised at all to note that my shopping cart did not have a bust wheel. "American owned" has always bothered me. Stopped in to use the bathroom on a road trip and it was horrible. From the filthiest bathroom to the rude old ladies working. No happiness, no kindness, just nasty-ness. Maybe American owned means no diversity in cute Asheville. read more

Great local Asheville area based grocery chain. They try hard. They have paired with Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project to get more local foods in their store. Kudos to them! read more

I was in for a surprise when I found out that not all ingle's are as nice as this one. When in search for a gluten free cake for a potluck dinner party, I was quick to assume that since this ingle's offers them in droves, with quite a selection, that any and all ingle's must offer the same choice in health conscious decadence. But as we all know, to assume makes an ass out of u and me... or maybe just me. This here ingle's also offers such a beatiful and wonderful selection of fine micro and import beers that I find myself spending an ever increasing amount of time just standing in front of the beer case, breathing deeply, and smiling. Staffing this ingle's are also fine fine people, like Sharon, your late night cashier who is ever so polite and kind, and that one guy that is totally in to ren-fairs. (Nice pony tail good sir, it's always an honor to watch you carry pallets of groceries with such chivalrous galantry.) Currently, I hang my hat in the Northern Asheville area, making this my local ingle's, but when I make my bed in a different area of town, I fear I will have to suffice with an ingle's that pales in comparison to this flagship of a market. read more

It is definitely correct that not all Ingles are created equal. For the most part I only have good things to say about this Ingles on Merrimon. They have a good variety of items, but I m always suprised that the cost of their organic items are more expensive than Earth fare. They have a good wine selection and a great salad bar. I am not keen on the hot food section, but then fried food and lots of fat laden food is not condusive to good health. Love the fish counter and the staff, Sarge, Joan and Virginia are great. Also Mike and Steve on the checkouts are great. I do not know these people outside the store, but wish I did. Do not like how the Manager speaks to the staff in front of customers. He needs to take it out the back. That is poor management. read more

Wonderful customer service in their pharmacy! Unfortunately the Rite Aide I used for over 20 years went out of business and Walgreens bought them out. I was told that my insurance would be valid at Walgreens and all I had to do was pickup my prescription. Yesterday, I went to get my medication that usually costs $30 for three months and was charged $216. They looked at me like I had two heads when I questioned the price. It took them over 24 hours and conversations with 7 people to find out that Walgreens does not accept my insurance. Luckily Ingles on Merrimon takes my insurance and they were very nice. I talked to one person over the phone who took my information and then called me back promptly within the hour. If you don't have to use Walgreens go to Ingles. You'll be happy you did! read more

Shopping here is like going down memory lane.........but with a Harris Teeter and Trader Joe being built near town I fear its days are limited as driving all the way out here to grocery shop won't make sense. It still is the place to go to fill in the gaps of places like Greenlife and Fresh Market....Ingles always has things those other places don't......... read more

Great folks work at this Ingles but the produce is awful, the store is very unorganized and the lack of conveyor belts at check out is mind boggling with all the space they have. Store owner seems to be cutting corners. So close to where we live but unfortunately I will be driving to Weaverville when Publix opens next year. read more

Been shopping here for years, as in over a decade. This location is consistently clean and up-to-date with their product line (including locally produced beer). They've worked hard to update their parking lot and also added a gas station a few years back. Best of all, there are familiar faces among the employees, people who have worked there for years - always a good sign that the management cares about their store. This location may not be as big and fancy as some of the newer Ingle's stores, but I always enjoy shopping here, seeing my neighbors, stocking up on well-supplied staples or trying something new from the shelves. Throw in the highly efficient pharmacy with an especially friendly staff, and I couldn't be happier with my local Ingle's. Wow. David and Dawn at the in-store Starbucks are quite possibly the rudest, most sour employees I've come across in years. I came in with my family--and they treated us like an annoyance. My little 10-year old nephew politely asked for a latte. David rolled his eyes, responding: "What?!" Rude. Unable to communicate. Clearly there under duress. I was in Asheville for a conference last weekend, and I needed to make a beer run to get some dark brew for a lesbian friend. .... Go ahead, make some typical lesbian beer jokes.... Back to the review.... This Ingle's has a beer section like I've never seen before. I'm not really a beer drink and I was amazed. Not only was there a huge wall of beer but there was a freaking beer cave. I didn't browse the massive beer cave because I found what I needed on the wall, but I was impressed. If you're in Asheville and trying to be mainstream instead of being cool and hitting the local breweries then Ingles is your place. read more

Can't believe the ingles I've been going to for years would let it be acceptable to allow cashiers to be on their phone while at work...our cashier tonight Kendall was more interested in her phone than ringing us up...she didn't even speak to us...next time we will go the extra mile to Harris teeter where I never see cashiers on their phone...ridiculous and completely rude...I'm sure another store will be more than happy to take my money and at least speak to me!!! One of the better Ingles on WNC because it has gas too. They're pretty much all the same from there. Not as expensive as most of the designer grocery stores but not as well stocked either. The prices are average. You can save money if you shop the ads. Deli and bakery are above average. Prepared foods are average. read more

During the daytime, at least, there is the usual Avl Ingles experience of untrained, incompetent very young cashiers and arrogant, rude, and also incompetent junior managers. My experience here was one of the worst I've ever had at an Ingles and that's some serious competition. I usually go through the automated checkout, but today one was broken, with long lines at the rest, so I chose one of the always-shorter cashier lines. The three-days-ago hired young blonde did not know how to handle my particular card (few problems with the card at the other Ingles and -never- at other grocery chains). She called over another cashier. The other cashier did not now. The two ladies appealed for help from the big strong young male (that's how they all played this scenario) junior manager. He proceeded to accuse me of making a mistake (I hadn't) and was extremely arrogant and entirely unapologetic to me but solicitous to the young blonde as he proceeded to give her on-the-job training. Meanwhile the line behind me grew and people started trying to find another one. Both employees finished this frustrating experience with usual Ingles' employee confab, laughing and talking as they hung out watching me leave. Too bad Ingles has such a monopoly in Asheville. The good news is that other stores are making rapid inroads here and pretty soon, all my Ingles experiences will just be bad memories. read more

Be very careful about the various meats at this ingles. We have been sickened by bad fish from the meat counter, walked by green roast beef in the packaged meat section, and seen black spots on the sushi tuna. Some pleasant folks work there but also a handful of angry surly ones. Must be a very hands off manager. read more

Being on social security sometimes there's more month left than money. So today I gathered all my change and around 2:30 pm went on down to the Ingles at 915 Merrimon Ave. Handed it all over to the boy behind the counter to exchange for cash as I need it...read again "NEEDED IT" for some Prescriptions....The little thief shorted me a buck and a half or so. He must have figured I had not counted it before I went in there but he was wrong, very, very wrong. Let me tell you had he not been behind that counter I would have snatched him up by the collar and knocked the glasses off of his face...but instead I turned and walked out because I'd rather not create a ruckus inside the store...I am grateful to find this site to deliver a message to he and his employer who I will contact as soon as I calm down... read more

I could afford to, I would shop only at Greenlife. Since I can't, this particular Ingles (and I've quickly learned not all Ingles are created equal) is a fair alternative. They stock a good amount of organic choices, and during those broke months, the Ingles Laura Lynn brand is a cheap-o option. The brand even carries some organic stuff. This store on Merriman also carries a fairly good (for a chain store) selection of beer, including not only the well-known local brews but also some of the best from other areas of the country, like Victory's Hop Devil and Bell's Two-Hearted. There are also aisles and aisles of wine. read more
