The first response we got was from DP Plumbing & Gas AKA Silver Knight Heating. Sooner even than the company we dealt with for the last one in 2012. We got three quotes and DP's was the lowest by $400 on one quote and by $500 on the other. Devin Perfect, what's in a name, the owner and Red Seal plumber actually showed up here to survey our situation. No one else did. So here's how things went: Devin called at roughly 9:00am, arrived here at 9:30am, got a call and quote from his office assistant at 10:16am, Devin arrived with the new tank at 12:30pm, installed and operational at 2:30pm, in a much needed shower at 3:00pm.

Deceptive, dismissive, and the job was left unfinished…read more Pacific Fireplaces installed my gas fireplace without ever disclosing the required "burn-off" process until the job was done. I had never even heard of a burn-off until Chad, the owner, mentioned it as he was leaving--telling me to run the fireplace on high for 2-3 hours while it fills the house with toxic fumes and smoke. He told me not to leave the house because a previous client returned to find fire trucks at their home. And yet they claim it's not their responsibility to help safely manage the fumes? That's outrageous. The room has no openable windows, and I have asthma. Pacific Fireplaces offered no solution--so I had to hire Storm Industries, who were incredible, to professionally vent the fumes from my home. The job is not finished if the client is left in danger. This company failed to disclose a critical health hazard, took no accountability, and pushed the problem onto me. If you care about air quality, safety, or basic ethics--stay far away. The team at Ark At Home installed a Valor Portrait that looks great (see photo) and vastly outperforms our old unit. The work was done promptly, competently and at the quoted price. Last week (five years later) we called them for cleaning and maintenance. The technician arrived as scheduled and addition to performing routine maintenance he replaced a valve, explaining that the company's experience had shown that it was not reliable. Oak Bay Municipality insisted on further work which not only cost me more money, but also delayed receiving the necessary "sign-off".
