However, upon completion of the work we realised the installers had damaged our natural oak floor during installation. We raised this with WindowWorx who sent their General Manager to take a look. He verbally accepted liability and followed this up with an email, again, accepting liability. WindowWorx went ahead and got a quote for the repair work which was £2,500. Following this, the owner of the business asked to come and have a look himself, so we welcomed him in. He immediately started talking about getting the insurance companies involved to figure out whose liability it was, which was odd, as we'd already established this. Needless to say their insurance company sided with their client. They fabricated a story about us damaging the floor ourselves, with no evidence whatsoever. They carried out zero due diligence, they didn't even visit the property, they just palmed us off. We have evidence by way of photographs that the floor was undamaged before they carried out the work, and damaged once completed. We took legal action against WindowWorx (this is their trading name, the limited company is actually First Direct (Kingston) Ltd) at significant cost to us, but again, we were palmed off with the same letter we'd received weeks prior from the insurance company. It was simply too expensive to continue perusing the matter in the courts, so we just had to walk away with a massive loss and a damaged floor. These people are not kind, they're not honest - they are deceitful and they lie. I would avoid them at all cost.

When they quote, they will give useful advice and avoid any form of hard sell. They will also help you with ideas if you want them. They are concerned with excellence, and the designs and materials they use are chosen and fitted carefully, even when competing on price. You can also go down to their factory in North Street where they build your windows and get shown around. I found them to be straightforward, honest and friendly, and therefore a real pleasure to work with to get the best windows and doors for my house. They don't use clever techniques to confuse, or pressurising sales methods to get your business. In fact it was pretty-much a pleasure to part with the money at the end of the job. My fears that we would have a load of mess were unrealised and I'd have them again any time. So you know, because this is a glowing report, I have no connection with them - just impressed by their integrity and quality. By the way, they've been going as a family-run firm for about 30 years.

He is not…read morecheap: £350 to replace 5 small white glass panels in three windows, using our own glass, which took a little over 2 hours. Unfortunately the job was not completed to a very high standard. There were gaps between the lead and glass where it had been cut, pieces of cement were left on the glass, the glass pieces cut from our panes had flaws in them, and lots of shards of glass were left under all three windows - despite his knowing we had a 2-year-old child in the house. No attempt was made to vacuum before he left. This lack of attention to detail was hugely compounded by the fact that when I wrote to Barry to bring these to his attention, he immediately called me up and bawled me out for my temerity in criticising his workmanship. After abusing me verbally for several minutes, he hung up. I can only say I don't think you would want to engage this person to work for you or have to deal with him personally in any way.

They did a good job, cleaned up after themselves and replastered around windows. they gave me a 10 year guarantee and because they are FENSA registered this will help if I ever sell my house within this time as the guarantee is transferrable to the next owner. I would get them to do further work if I need new windows in the future. As they are a local company, I know that the money goes back into the community and not out of it which would be the case if I'd have used a national company to do the installation.
