Lululemon means you know how to dress to work out, with some 'fashion taste'. I started yoga in a gym and finished my teacher training in India. I tried three digits number studios all over the world. Upon returning to Hong Kong, I miss a hidden studio focus on advanced level classes and emphasis Kirtan on every Friday nights. And full of celebrity teachers' workshop on weekends. Pure's class range and levels still remain most complicated local wise. It is original Bikram style, later developed into a all-in fitness group. They cover hatha, vinysa, ashtanga, power, universal, yoga therapy...to my loving Jivamukti, Forrest style. It is impressive by just looking at their weekly schedule. The Langham studio offers quite a few advanced courses with renowned instructors. Martina wakes you up in the morning 90 minutes universal session, Samret handles all the comprehensive positions. They provide one time free trial. And nobody mentioned, but their well-facilitated shower and changing room plays like a second home for all the ladies.

There's classes in all different levels and its not intimidating at all to those just beginning. The classes are all on a schedule that is available online through their website. I love how convenient it is to make a booking for a class in all locations. One thing I should mention is that if you're looking to go to one of the more popular classes, like Hot Flow...make sure you book two days before. That is the earliest time allowed to make a booking for any class. The classes will fill up quick, so get on it and make sure you secure a spot either online or over the phone by calling their studio. PURE Yoga at Langham is a very large space. There are a number of studios located one level below the reception and locker rooms. The lighting here is very warm and the relaxing. I instantly get a bit calmer once the elevator doors open to their smiling staff greeting you. Unlike PURE Fitness, workout gear is not provided to you. Be sure to bring your own workout clothes. If you are also a member of PURE Fitness, you can just go one level down on the elevator and borrow from them which is very convenient. I do notice that the conditions of the showers are not as great as it is in other locations. There are times where some stalls are out of order...and other times, I just see some build up that needed to be cleaned. The instructors here are fantastic!!! I know most the yoga instructors for PURE go around the different locations, so this says a lot about the company as a whole. Hence I joined Pure Yoga in Quarry Bay when I used to work there a few years ago. Later on, I took up another job on the Kowloon side and started coming here to the Peninsula studio. I must say, this has to be my favorite studio out of the six Pure Yoga locations. I'm loving this place even more after they finished the renovations this summer... so I'm giving it another star! Ta-da! If you have been to all of the Pure Yoga studios, you would know that none of the rest could beat this one in terms of the view. Every time when I check in at the entrance, when I get a card saying Studio 6, it's like I win the lottery! Studio 6 has a view of the Victoria Harbour. Imagine you standing there doing a tree pose, you can just look across the harbour and stare right at the top of the Convention Centre trying to balance yourself... how cool is that? What else makes the Peninsula studio so impressive is that they have some great instructors. When you're done with class, you can also sit at the lobby and enjoy the harbor view while you're waiting for a friend! If that's still not enough to persuade you to come here, they even have phone chargers. Leave your phones there to charge while you're in class... and may I say, PLEASE do not bring your phones to class as it is very disturbing. Inhale... exhale... leave your phones behind and relax, Hong Kongers!

Their locations are central and Aberdeen, both of which are very clean and tidy. After every class, a lady comes and wipes everything down/vacuums so rest assure you are working out in a clean environment. The reception desk are the friendliest I've experience! The trainers are friendly, professional and will guide you through the exercises and tailor moves to your fitness level- obviously you need to pick a class that suits you! My only complaint is the changing rooms are tight, crowded and you will find yourself climbing over someone else.

Detox yoga is both relaxing but tough with the different poses we do in this class. I love it after a tough exercise weekend because it stretches out all my knots. Sunday mornings I take Trixie's TRX Pilates... Reverse pull ups, reverse crunches??? Lastly, the shower room is fully stocked so it's perfect way to start my weekend, hit the shower, doll up and be fresh to be out the rest of the day.

And as a disclaimer, I've been here for try-out class only, although I'm very likely to come back as a regular. First of all, hell yeah it's a like clubbing at Play or Volar, but with both of your feet on pedals. When the class started and the light dimmed, the vibe was really exciting, but minus the competitive bs. It was kind of relaxing in its way if you think of it, as it was my very first time ever been to a spinning class. And 5mins in? I felt like dying already. Muscles were burning, and THEN our dearest instructor Kat started getting us to double our spins. Kat was amazing, and made me realized the instructor was the most important element in the class. She motivated each and everyone of us just enough to keep our head above the water, but not to drown us with anything too harsh. I was just able to keep up an hour long lesson, (and I said I'm not the most athletic person!), but looking back from the second I started, I didn't stop pedaling at all for an hour. It burns fat, strengthens, tones, and tightens the body in 45 minutes. It is a tough work out but you see the impact quickly, especially around the core area. After checking with the big yoga studios and decided not to go with them because of their steep charges for walk-in classes (more than London and New York!). I found Yoga Bam Bam. It seems like a good alternative. No fussy contract and everything seems to look quite direct and simple. However, as I read on their website about their freelance teachers, who are doctors, lawyers, CEOs...etc, it makes me feel a little reluctant. I don't think the teachers other jobs have anything to do with my yoga practice or even their own. It doesn't mean they're better teachers. Moving to Hong Kong, it was quite easy for me to fall in love with Pure. Since it is everywhere and they have excellent teachers, (especially at the Centrium location where I practise.) Therefore it wasn't a hard decision for me to make, to join Pure yoga. As with anything you do and with my complacent personality, yoga can get a little boring after awhile. It's the same poses, the same class etc. So i began to venture out towards other yoga related recreational sports. My friend who is a certified yoga instructor teaches Aerial yoga in Hong Kong. She recently told me to come check out a yoga class held at Yoga Bam Bam. This is when I learned that Yoga Bam Bam is located in Sheung Wan with a small but open feel to practise yoga. If you are tired of practising inside a skyscraper confined within the walls that are mirrors, try Yoga Bam Bam. They are a new studio that is half outdoors and half indoors. It's quite a different experience to practise yoga outside. I understand why people do it at the beach and parks. What's more interesting is that I learned, this space is used for yoga instructors to rent out for the duration of their class. I think it's an excellent and flexible idea. Instead of the same instructors all the time, whoever wants to teach, whoever is in town can just rent the space out and teach whatever kind of yoga they wish. This definitely spices things up a bit!

There is a dance studio for various classes, plenty of cardio machines, and both free weights and machines for some real lifting. This gym is for everybody. Because they just remodeled, all of the amenities are really nice and new. When I went, there wasn't that many people but it might have been because it was on new years day. Also it was a random time. Unlike some of the other Physical clubs, this one actually has a dedicated stretching area for people to use. But I still dislike that all of the Physical clubs are very strict about what equipment you can use. For example, a lot of the bosus, kettle bells, etc are only for personal training which is ludicrous but I digress. This club is also very conveniently located off of the foot bridge of the A5 exit of the Wan Chai MTR station. If you're looking for a bite to eat afterwards, there's plenty of food in the area.
