Medicare and Optum covered the hospice side. I paid separately for 24/7 caregivers through Sincere Care Services, which I chose because I wanted Cantonese and Mandarin speakers so my mother would be more comfortable. Five Star was recommended by the Optum physician on staff. Separately, a family member recommended them too, through a friend whose father had passed the week before. I checked their ratings on Yelp and Google before moving forward, and I am extremely happy with the service we got from start to finish. This is the point where you decide between more hospital intervention, which can be painful, and accepting the situation and moving to hospice. Hospice is the wedding coordinator for a peaceful death. Things can still go wrong even when you plan everything perfectly, but Five Star was there at every step to handle whatever came up. The rough sequence for anyone about to do this: 1. Decide on hospice. 2. Line up caregivers. They are separate from Five Star, but Five Star will point you to good ones. I wanted Chinese-speaking caregivers and Mark made it happen. 3. Coordinate with the hospital on transportation. 4. Be home to receive the supplies. 5. Be home when your loved one arrives. Have a bottle of distilled water ready for the oxygen machine. 6. Have the nurse and the caregiver both there so you can learn the comfort meds. 7. I used 24/7 caregivers on 12-hour shifts. I made a point of being there whenever a new caregiver came on, so I could walk them through the medications and get their phone number. Nurses came once a day to check on my mother since she was close. You do not have to be there the whole time, but I tried to be there for shift changes. One thing I wish I had watched more closely was bowel movements. My mother had been constipated since the hospital because she was not eating. Another tip: put together a playlist of beautiful music to play in the room. Otherwise it is silence, or your loved one is listening to caregivers talk and scroll on their phones. Even when your loved one is not responsive, they are still listening and drifting in and out. Tell them everything will be okay. Thank them for everything they did for you. I think it helps them go peacefully. Anytime I needed something, Mark was a text or a call away and he always answered. Again, they are the wedding coordinators for a loved one's passing, and they will do everything within their power to help you through it.

After my surgery, this company provided some of the worst service I've experienced…read more An RN contacted me around 3:30 PM saying he needed to come for a visit. I explained that I would be available around 6-6:30 PM, and he said he could not come after that. When patients already wait weeks for appointments, expecting someone to suddenly be available within a very short notice window is unacceptable. The next day was Sunday. I understood when they explained they normally do not provide service on Sundays, and I was told someone would come Monday instead. After some back and forth and several unsuccessful calls, I received a message saying someone else from the office would come because the original RN was busy. I texted them around 8 AM and waited all day without any updates. Nobody contacted me again. After following up multiple times myself, they finally called to say they had nobody available to come. I explained how serious the situation was and how scared and stressed I was because I had just gone through surgery and still had not received any visit or proper care. Instead of helping, they kept delaying and giving excuses like "give us another hour." Later they even tried blaming me, claiming I had canceled the original appointment, which was completely false. I asked for a supervisor to contact me because at that point I honestly did not know what else to do. Nobody ever called back. In the end, I had to drive myself in my post-surgery condition just to find care somewhere else. No patient recovering from surgery should be left feeling abandoned and forced into that situation. This may be acceptable in some industries, but not in healthcare where patients are recovering from surgery and depending on proper care. I truly hope neither they nor their own family members ever have to experience this kind of treatment while recovering from surgery.

Her and her staffs were very professional. When her nurses came to check on my mom, they took their time to talk to us and answer our questions. I only wished I could have met Eliah in person to thank her in person.

We called them and asked them how many days in a week the doctor will come. The nurse/operator/receptionist said the nurse and/or doctor comes 1 day per week. What kind of health care does this place provide? My mom asks to speak with the doctor once he or she show up in the convalescent hospital. She received NO RESPONSE at all. I went to see my grandma and her right ear is swollen. The nurse at the convalescent hospital cleaned her ears and they are full of dirts and wax. Her nails (both hands and feet) are NEVER trim. They are very long. They need to think about what if that's their parents and grandparents in the hospital and under hospice care. They can be in the same situation as other people.

As soon as we decided to switch to hospice care, we've been in touch with a few places but Maximum Care Hospice felt most transparent and comprehensive. Other places were a bit unclear about who is coming from where and what exactly is being provided with hospice care. Switching to hospice care was a difficult decision, but we are so happy to have chosen Maximum Care. We had a wonderful nurse Victoria. It was a short seven days but she provided all the support that we needed. There was no judgement whatsoever (my father was difficult) and she was very respectful and kind. We had a somewhat unusual circumstance, where the police had to be in touch with them (due to my father's passing as a result of a crime), but they handled it all very graciously. Equipment delivery and pickup was excellent. They are contracted with a place called St Joseph's and every staff from there was respectful and friendly. We also had a wonderful woman come to bathe my father before he passed away She was very thorough and efficient. I believe she isn't an employee but someone who is contracted to provide personal care to several hospices, but she had told me that she tries to take every job requested by Maximum Care because they treat her very well. When my father passed, Victoria came immediately and connected us with their recommended mortuary. My cousin, who is experienced with contacting mortuaries at her church community, was very impressed how seamless and "easy" Maximum Care made the process. Thank you again, and I will forever recommend Maximum Care Hospice to anyone who needs hospice care providers.

I urge you to carefully consider this before contracting with any hospice provider. Unfortunately, our experience with Faith & Hope made an already painful situation even harder. In April 2025, my mom suffered a massive stroke. She was placed under Continuous Care (CC), which meant she required critical, around-the-clock nursing support. We were told her case would be re-evaluated after three days. However, the care was stopped in less than 24 hours and we were given only 4 hours' notice that services would be discontinued. At that point, it was clear our needs no longer aligned with Faith & Hope's philosophy of care. We scrambled to hire private help on extremely short notice. That night, my mom was in significant pain & experienced agitation. She needed her medication adjusted and an increase of the dosage frequency to help manage her symptoms. The next day, we made final attempts to Faith & Hope to reassess mom's eligibility for CC, even though the on-call night nurse, when we asked, did acknowledge that we were free to seek another hospice provider. We waited all day for a response from Faith & Hope, but heard nothing. Faced with another evening without adequate care, we transferred my mom to a different hospice. They gave us the right care without hesitation. Sadly, our mom passed away only 4 days later. The only positive experience we had with Faith & Hope was with Nurse Theresa. She cared for my mom with compassion, dedication and a true commitment to patient advocacy. Theresa's thoughtfulness and support helped guide my brothers and me through an incredibly challenging time, and for that we are deeply grateful.

Watching her care for my sister, I realize that unlike most people, Christina genuinely and altruistically practices nursing for the good of her patients, quietly and steadfastly, never missing even the smallest detail that would make a difference in giving comfort and care. It was never about Christina, or about how good or caring she can demonstrate herself to be. It was all about her sick and afflicted patient. I keep pinching myself, wondering if I was really that lucky to have had such a nurse assigned to us. In everything she does, Christina combines expertise and humility, never bragging about how much she knows, or how good she is. I see it in the way she administers medication, how she bathes my sister, making sure to clean every inch of her body while avoiding to distress her. I could go ad infinitum about Christina, but will sum up with a quote from a French ecclesiastic, Jean-Baptiste Lacordaire, "Real excellence and humility are not incompatible one with the other, on the contrary, they are twin sisters." True Care Hospice is very fortunate to count Christina among its nursing staff, and our family is blessed to have met and received care from our beloved nurse Christina. She gives true meaning to the term hospice, and perhaps should be in charge of training newly arrived hospice nurses. More Christinas will make this a better world.
