This vintage…read moreclothing store is situated in a questionable shopping center just outside of the SoBro neighborhood of Indianapolis, in one of those areas where if you blink, you might pass it. But when you find it, you'll see that these cats have a lotta good stuff. Mostly, you will find streetwear and novelty t-shirts and accessories at Naptown Thrift. Shirts run the gamut from band t-shirts, Mickey Mouse, sports, hobbies and other things. Have you been looking for a shirt that says, "It's five o'clock somewhere?" Do you need a hoodie that shows your undying love for Dayton Beach? Or maybe a ball cap with a black Labrador Retriever on it? This is the place for you. Speaking of ball caps, you'll also find lots of hats and caps, Indiana artwork for sale, posters, denim (both shorts and long pants), jackets and lots more. This thrift store skews toward the adult male, which is fine by me. I feel like we need more good vintage stores for the dudes around here. Dudes need places to find sick threads. Naptown Thrift is a great place to find such sick threads and wearable treasures.

The proprietor was friendly and engaging. He even suggested a few other nearby shops for us to check out. Several walls were filled with vintage local sport art. Colorful team hats hung from the ceiling. This is definitely a man cave dream shop. Racks were filled with vintage logo jackets, tee shirts and other sports wear. The place is really interesting. I didn't buy anything as I was really looking for houseware and I don't have a man cave. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall lot.

It's an area I just…read moreplain love, a unique combination of urban edginess, friendly people with just a bit of attitude (like me), and a surprising amount of cool businesses. SoBro Vintage Market is probably right on that line between what would be considered SoBro and Broad Ripple, though it undeniably carries a SoBro vibe. In case there's any doubt, this is a vintage market. The vibe tends to change here from visit to visit, though I'm not going to say I actually frequent the place because, quite honestly, it's not always particularly wheelchair friendly. Some of this stuff is vintage enough that I don't want to take a chance on breaking it with my chair. You can get art here. You can get music here. You can get clothing here. You can get some furniture here. If you look up this place on social media, you'll see that they actually have "& Curiosities" in their name - that's appropriate because they have quite a bit that I would simply call "curiosities." Prices range from "great deal" to WTF?" It seems like when I've been here, I've always seen quite a bit that falls into mid-century. That's kind of appropriate considering an awful lot of SoBro would fall into that era (including my home - a 1955 California ranch). When they are open, they are known for putting some items outside (which is how I finally stopped - I saw a wonderful retro dining room table that was to die for). People are friendly and knowledgeable. I honestly don't know a lot about the place, other than I find it to be ultra-cool, and I've never stopped by that I didn't see something I'd want (and will sometimes get). If you're into the vintage scene, SoBro Vintage Market is definitely worth a visit. If you have mobility issues or are a wheelchair user, just be aware that sometimes it gets pretty tight inside and you'll want to exercise caution.

I was impressed by the boutique sections & ended up with 1 pair of excellent shorts, 2 dresses, & 4 shorts for a total of $27. What an excellent price! So the money from your purchases, as well as your donations, all go toward a great cause. This new thrift store is so clean and organized. Probably 75% of the store is clothing, shoes and accessories, but they also have a great selection of used books, DVDs, and even cassette tapes and VHS for the old heads. The prices are amazing. One of my kids bought a board game for $2, and the other found a Wii game for $3. There are lots of quality home goods and kitchen stuff, too. Nothing is junky -- you can tell that they are discerning about the items that they choose to display in the store. I visited the store on its second day of being open, and I noticed that it didn't have a sign out front yet. It's still early days for the store, though, so I'm sure they'll put a sign out at some point. In the meantime, just look for the banner that says "grand opening."

They do not run big outlet locations like Goodwill where they dump donations in huge bins for people to root through and damage. You can drop off items behind their store, or in off hours bring them into the store. They so not spend tons of money on fancy TV commercials and fancy stores. This location is on the same side of the road as the Walmart and in the same plaza as the Petco, Platos, and the Autoparts store. The staff are super nice and there are a lot of volunteers walking around as well. I have found several things that are new with tags (priced accordingly), tons of name-brand goods, and there is rarely that funky thrifted smell that permeates everything you get from the WMS. They have everything from clothes to furniture/household goods to really nice jigsaw puzzles. Everything is super easy to find. Prices here at the Mission Store are a little higher than places like Goodwill, but every purchase supports the Wheeler Mission by providing meals and funding for training to their residents. There are also hand-made candles and other wares that the residents make while staying at Wheeler for purchase. Once while shopping I noticed it was busier than normal and the associate explained that they allow Wheeler residents to come and shop for what they need to get back on their feet. COOL!

We found items of any and all categories, ranging from vintage concert tees, vinyl records, milk glass dishes and vintage jewelry to comic books, children's toys, books and more. In my opinion, most of the items were not priced to sell. They were being overvalued. The pricing was for the customer that comes in looking for a specific item for a specific purpose. We were just browsing for fun and unique finds and left with a pair of cuff links, a piece of costume jewelry, a few handkerchiefs and a book. We saw other items that we were interested in, but after doing some price comparison, we were able to find the same or similar items on online marketplaces such as eBay for less. The staff were kind and helpful. We stayed right up until closing time, and they never lost their professionalism or kindness like some businesses probably would when customers walk in moments before closing and disregard them when a shopkeeper reminds them. This was not us (we were there for about 2 hours), but I did witness this happening.
