The Scholastic Warehouse has book sales several times throughout the year. At current they are…read morerunning a three day Back to School sale. I would skip this sale. Why? It's super small and not worth the trip. It's the size of a school book fair, except that everything is 50% off and the already on sale items are also 50% off the marked price. I stopped by because I was already in the nearby area. I found a few items but nothing I desperately needed for myself or my classroom. The sale you want to go to is the BIG SALE that is usually run twice a year. It is generally in April/May and December. You can sign up for emails through the website or check the website periodically for updates as to the sale dates. When you sign up to attend the sale online, you will receive coupons for $10 off $50 or $25 off $100. These sales allow you in almost all parts of the warehouse and include not only books but kits, toys, posters, trinkets, resource books, etc. Everything is 50%+ off and they usually do a "fill the box" or "fill the bag" for $25ish. The big sales last for around two weeks and are usually packed. It's worth it to go to the big sale but not so much the three day sales unless you are close to warehouse. Parking and sale entrance is in back of the building. Look for the Scholastic semi trucks with Clifford on them!

It's a couple storefronts away from Danville Dips. I love bookstores like The Authors' Patch. It "feels" like it's designed by a writer with its wood interior, warm atmosphere, and inspired decor. The Authors' Patch is bigger than you expect it to be. You can grab a drink, grab a chair, and immerse yourself in a diverse reading selection that includes local authors (including Valt), rare finds, used books, new selections, and more. The Authors' Patch hosts book signings (If I ever finish that ever elusive second book, I could easily see myself saying "The Authors' Patch, please?" I didn't get much time here, however, it was a sublime way to wind down after an emotional day clearing out my father's home. You can park on the town square (free 2-hour parking for most folks; 5-hour parking for disabled/accessible spots). The Authors' Patch does have a very slight step going into it, a point to note for those with accessibility needs. The bookstore itself is surprisingly accessible - only a couple tight spots. Again, I didn't get much time here. There's no doubt I'll be back when there's time to really browse and relax. Fun facts about the owner - she previously worked on the Child Sex Abuse Team for DCS. She lives in Danville with her husband on a farm that includes donkeys, cows, chickens, alpacas, and goats. I love indie bookstores. This locally owned, author owned bookstore is an absolute gem with a writer's vibe, a creative energy, and a warm sense of welcome. The Authors' Patch offers free wifi along with a variety of drinks or snacks for purchase. There's no question I'll be back.

Grab a drink and pick a table or chair to go on a little escape. There are several books and a checker table in the children's area. If you can't find what you are looking for don't be afraid to ask for help! My favorite area is in the front where the retold fairytale books are. At the cash register you'll find cool bookmarks and some things made on their 3D printer. They also sell a few snacks and some drinks for you to enjoy.

There is a wide selection of books and a variety of Knick knacks and gift items that bring the store closer to what I see (and shop within) in larger airports I frequent like Boston, Charlotte, or LaGuardia! I was pleased to find markup minimal and on some items non existent, a rarity in airports these days. It's not a big store, but they make use of every square inch of the space they have. They had a huge array of everything. My cousin found a book he was interested in so he was very excited and happy. The guy behind the counter seemed very knowledgeable and was super friendly. I would recommend this store to anyone that is into the comics realm.

I do see other reviewers here saying that the staff have been rude, but I've never had that experience. The store is well laid out and the selection's always up to date and organized. The staff usually are willing to offer me recommendations. I'm a middle-aged guy and don't really keep up on comic book news. So I appreciate when I can just ask, "What's good right now?" and have them suggest some books for me.

This place receives donations to where teachers or other school staff can come here to shop and it is no cost. The schools typically pay for the employees memberships to go here. Best of all: All of these items are provided to the teachers for free. The things that teachers can shop for range from backpacks to pencils, binders to STEM books, Lysol wipes to poster board. All of those things that teachers sometimes tend to pay for out of their own pockets -- they are given in abundance here for free. I love this place so much. If you're a teacher, you can sign up to shop at the Teachers' Treasures website. Then, you visit during your designated time, grab a shopping cart and get the supplies you need. Teachers' Treasures is only open on certain days and at certain times, so you need to make a reservation in order to visit. If you are looking for a volunteering opportunity, Teachers' Treasures is always looking for volunteers to help stock shelves, unload products from pallets and assist teachers as they shop. This wonderful organization relies on volunteer efforts.

Sip N Read is a new bookstore in Cumberland, on the east side of Indianapolis, and it's the cutest little bookstore you ever did see. It's right next door to The Green Bean, a coffee shop and gift store. So, you can visit both places, and literally sip and read. Sip N Read started off as a bookmobile, but has since expanded to a brick-and-mortar bookstore, selling all sorts of books, from children's books to romance to nonfiction. They sell both new and gently used books, as well as "blind date" books that are wrapped and you don't know what they are until you purchase them and unwrap them. How fun! The bookstore is small, but there are a couple of chairs to sit in and read your books. Or, you can just pop over to the coffee shop next door and read, I suppose, if you purchase something. Parking is behind the building and is shared with The Green Bean, so it can be a little crowded.

Plus, there is a sweet, old dog named Huckleberry who is in the shop most days with the owner, Ben. When we visited, Huckleberry greeted us with wags and kisses, and showed us his new toy. Ben is another one. He is so nice and friendly, and explained to us the layout of his store and where we could find stuff. (He was so genuinely nice and friendly that I remembered his name, which is a big feat for me, as I almost never remember anyone's name!) Ben knew pretty much everything about all of the magazines he carries. He is very knowledgeable about the industry! You can find everything from Cherry Bombe to Kinfolk to Cereal to The Gentlewoman to Dazed to Garage ... so many art and fashion magazines, and food and lifestyle periodicals. My little magazine-loving heart was truly satisfied. They also carried many books and periodicals illustrated and written by local artists, including Things Organized Neatly. Ben seemed really proud of carrying local work -- he made sure to show us which ones were made by people from Indy.

As you browse through the materials throughout the shop, you never know what subjects you might come across. And many of the publications are of foreign descent. You can easily immerse yourself in a different world just by flipping through the magazines. I think PRINTtEXT might be on to something here. While there are ebooks, blogs, and various types of online content, it's a different feeling to have a hard copy of a book/magazine that you can physically hold on to. I am curious to know what the future holds for the shop. Perhaps they can leverage it as a place to bring people together and have discussions on anything and everything.
