This is a small family business, we had a private tour of the cacao orchard (in Spanish) detailing the entire chocolate-making process, with hands on participation and delicious learning opportunities. They toasted some cacao nibs for us to samples, along with some of their chocolates and cacao marmalade (if we were flying home in a couple of days I would have stocked up on this!!). Then we relaxed in their cozy outdoor cafe as the sun dipped down behind the flamboyan trees, drinking milkshakes and eating Bon bons, swinging in the hammocks sprinkled around the cafe. For starters, the bouquet looked terrible (I can send the picture), second the card was not included so the family didn't even know who sent the arrangement, lastly, the delivery driver did not leave it where my aunt told him. The delivery driver decided to leave the arrangement on a narrow concrete fence and, he had not even left the house, when the bouquet fell into the flower bed on the other side of the fence. The picture I have shows how he left it. I've been trying to call the shop since I placed the order on Friday because they didn't even give me a window for delivery so I could be sure someone was home. The phone goes straight to voicemail. Then Saturday, I called every hour on the hour to discuss what happened, and it goes straight to voicemail. We met at Banco Popular, introduced ourselves and went our merry way to the 5 different food spots. Our first stop was Cafe Cuatro Sombras where we had coffee and croissant ham/provolone cheese/guava butter. I liked this croissant with a hint of tanginess/sweetness from the guava. Noncoffee drinkers had options of lemonade and tea. Second stop was Señor Paleta. There's no indoor seating here so we had the delicious parcha (passion fruit) popsicle. Yum! Very refreshing, great for this warm weather! Third stop was Cafe El Punto. This place has a lot of artwork by local artists. We had ceviche de pescado and alcapurrias de la casa which were nice. Fourth stop was El Patio de Sam where we "made" our own mofongo. We had fried plantains and garlic butter, mashed them in a mortar and pestle, and added the chicken before turning the mortar upside down to get the mofongo.
