I have been going to Indra since I was probably 5 years old. I've grown up in glendale, and every Saturday after church, lunch was designated there. And so far...I have NOT found any THAI restaurant to match the food and friendliness of Indra. The owner, cashier and waitresses all know me by my first name, and always greet me with a warm smile and give me great service. NOW the food......is amazing. I have tried TONS and TONS of different PAD THAI...since it is my favorite dish...and nothing so far compares to INDRAs. ALSO, their THAI ICE TEA is like no other. None of this orange looking fake generic tasting thai ice tea...I don't know how they do it, but its great! A TIP FOR INDRA THAI ICE LOVERS...if you want a bigger thai ice tea you can order the LARGE size which comes in a TO GO SOUP container...well worth the $4.50 for that extremely large thai ice tea. OTHER GREAT food: Beef, Pepper and Garlic (i don't know what the name is on the menu), Ginger Chicken, Fried Wontons, BBQ Chicken, Beef Panang, and their FRIED bananas are good too. The just recently remodeled, which for me lost that homey feeling I have experienced for the past 19 years going there, but the food is still great. The owner and her daughter use to run a japanese thai fusion restaurant called AOBA, but i think they closed it, so they remodeled everything at indra. For those who like a nice atmosphere...well it looks great now! and for those who want GOOD THAI food...this is the place to be! THE MENU shrunk a bit since the remodeling! So most of what I order is what I would call my "regular" order. Because I've been there so long, I don't even look at the menu, so it may seem like a small selection they have, but there are a lot of other stuff that maybe only regulars would really know about. I have been eating here for years now. I used to eat here almost every day, but got sick of it after about two years, as would be expected. The service can be good depending on the server, and after you get to know them you tend to get special treatment. The flavors here I have found are very unique and I have not found many of them elsewhere in my travels. One thing you will note is that the Thai tea, iced or hot, is unique. I have not been able to replicate it, and it is not the standard orange pungent tea you get normally. It is well caffeinated, more so than a coffee or a can of coke. and more over if you spend a dollar more you can get a "large", that comes in a soup to go container. Its sweet and mild with lots of flavor. As for the food, much of it is good. I have too many favorites to name all, but the indian noodle soup is excellent. The buffet curries are all good but the catfish in green curry is excellent, and also hot enough to burn through few floors of a building, Alien style, if spilled. My favorite are the yellow curries, which are not like the yellow curries you normally get. They are runny and wet, soak deep into your rice and out the bottom, with lots of mint and coconut cream. Their seafood is also excellent, the seafood combo and the seafood curry (expensive)are really good. The seafood curry comes in this funny looking earthen serving plate that keeps your mussels warm while you eat them out from under their little earthen hats. The satay is again really good and the peanut sauce is distinct and not fond elsewhere. Drunken noodles are to die for (get them extra spicy). The place is a zoo on a Sunday after noon after church. It fills up with half the Philipinos in Glendale. As any other place you can change things up and add substitutions to the food. The one item I almost always change are the noodles. I prefer egg noodles to rice so I often have them change that in the soups. Also I am allergic to Chinese broccoli so I usually get bok choi. But most things come with bok choi. The wonton soup is really good, especially with extra garlic, and you can get it with egg noodles too. Also, if it just you, you can get your entree over rice on a single plate. Its a little cheaper than getting your entree and rice separate, but you get a huge helping of rice and they tend to give you more sauce. Mostly everything is spicy and can be ordered spicier or milder. Overall its unique but also casual. The stuff can be a little expensive if you don't know what you are getting or how much, but after a few visits it not hard to work out whats good. read more

The first time I ate here was about 20 years ago. Back then, it was a hole in the wall that was known for really good food. Now it is a 'remodeled' hole-in-the wall. The new decor is very tasteful. You can actually take a date there for a casual dinner. (But you have to tell her that you are there for the food, because the location is not that impressive.) My favorites: 1) Omelet - I think it has ground pork and peas inside. It goes really well with the red spicy sauce. 2) Shrimp in Red Curry - the best! 3) Shrimp Fried Rice - the best! 4) Chicken with Baby Corn - I'm not sure what they call this on their menu, but its flavor is light and is a good complement to the Shrimp in Red Curry. There are numerous dishes on their menu that are really good. You really can't go wrong at this place. Everyone who lives nearby eats at this place on a regular basis. read more

The restaurant gets high marks for interior decor however, it falls short when it comes to its food. Its not the best thai I have had but its also not the worst. I would suggest going around the corner to Thai Spirit which lacks in decor but makes up ten fold in food quality and taste. Your dollar with get you further at Thai Spirit as well. Ive been coming to Indra since the late 90's food quality and portion size has declined dramatically. Customer service is also bad now. Ordered thai ice tea which used to be orange and served in a large cup and now its served in a small cup and brown. Chicken sautee are tiny 3"-4" which were 6"-8" long before. The sauce with peanuts was thick and full of flavor now its watery. I miss the old skol Indra next to the video store not sure if management changed. Wont be returning! read more

And, though I live in Illinois, when I do visit the L.A. area, I make an effort to go to Indra, no matter what. read more

We went in to try this restaurant. Everything looked like it was going to be really good but the two of were never served. We waited there for at least 15 mins and no one even came to bring us water! So ridiculous. The waitress also looked at us multiple times and still never came over. I was so so disappointed and we just walked out. I won't be back since I won't even get the chance to try the food since we were treated so rudely. read more

Kinda strange to see so many conflicting reviews about an old hangout. I bet I beat all the old hands. Been coming here for 29 years now! Brought my now ex wife here for her first taste of Thai. She asked to stop by McDonalds on the way home. Not the restaurant's fault mind you, she's a Cali gal and had then never tasted chillies! Soon she kept asking to come back! And then her "apple pie" parents too! And many friends from in and out of town. We also sneak in alone and in various combos, tho an unspoken family rule is no family member swings by without calling the others to see if they need something as well. Our kids were born and had their 'Thai' christening here. We knew Sam and Ora (the owners) when they were married. Sam is now in Thailand I believe. Their kids are now out of college and sometimes help in the restaurant. Our son dropped in here often when he went to Glendale College. Our other son did the same a few years later. When I broke my jaw some 18 years ago and it was wired up I subsisted on their chicken coconut soup, blended so I could drink it thru a straw. The other week when our 'baby' son was visiting D.C. in prep for leaving there for university, his mom, his brother and I came here while we were feeling down and sad without him. Ora joined us and consoled us. Then there' s Ay (not sure how her name is spelled) She's also looked after us for years. Haven't seen her lately tho. Pretty sure she'll be back. There was a time when their quality suffered, but that has passed and it's still our go to place for comfort Thai food. There are umpteen choices for Thai food in this town now. And others make some dishes better. But we like their Tom ka gai best. And the beef Pa Nang tastes like no other we've tried. The Pad Thai is kinda balanced perfectly for us as well. So we stick with our favorites, and will keep coming here. It's for the food. And it's also partly our Thai home. read more

i have been a customer for i would say about 20 years now. The place was remodeled recently and they started to take credit cards and will deliver if you order over about 30 bucks. Food is good, my favorite is the beef salad i think its the best and believe me ive tried it at many different thai places and havent found any place that makes it better. This place is usually great but don't ever order the Beef Penang Combo to go. You're wasting your money! They put more broccoli than they do beef for the beef broccoli side. And they put tons of rice and the crispy chips. And my main dish the Beef Penang came in a really small as FUCK to go soup container. It had like 3 pieces of meat and the curry. It was the smallest of the combo? They should call it the Asian Stingy Beef Penang Combo. I paid $11 tops and was not worth it. Go to Thai Touch and order Beef Penang for under $10 bucks with your choice of White/Brown rice and you will be happier. Omg!, I'm so glad that I decided to try it Out. I have been going to Thai bbq chicken in glendale since I was 15 and I still go there once a week Because I Love their chicken but their pasta is o so but Indra is soooo delicious. Its Nothing fancy but very authentic. Something I taste when I go to thai town. Its very fresh taste. Try some beef salad and pad see wu is very flavorful. They offer daily specials that u normally cannot find. They even make their own chille sauce. Its very cheap and small portion if u like american portion. It was perfect portion for me. Decor is just something u will see in a small chinese fast food or thai restaurant . I would go there until I try the rest of the stuff and only go to thai bbq when I crave bbq chicken. I've been coming here since I was a child. It was recommended by my dad's best friend and we've gotten to know Ora over the years; always friendly to us. I love the beef lahdna, beef satay, bbq chicken and mee krob, the latter which I didn't want to try initially even though my friends said, "It tastes like candy". When I finally did, I wanted it all to myself. Other dishes I've had I have enjoyed just as much, but those four are my staple. read more

I don't know think Sarah C. knows here Thai food very well. But REAL Pad See Eew uses Chinese brocolli NOT bok choy. Most Americanized Thai restaurants accomodate their American customers by using American brocolli... But not Indra. They are the real deal!!! This is a pretty good place. Price might be $1 or 2 more than some Thai places but it is better than most of the places in Glendale. That is for sure. Very good Drunken Noodles, cooked to order extra spicy. Panang Curry was oh kay. Staff is super friendly. This is in a very unassuming shopping center, however, they've created a nice clean, modern atmosphere inside. I will surely be back. read more

The only reason why i rated it 1 is because there's no negative rating. The food here seems like it's been cooked several days ago and upon order they will reheat it in the microwave. The soup is horrible it seems like they just sprinkle lime juice and heat the broth. Don't ever think of coming here. It's not worth your time energy and money. read more

I have been coming to Indra since before marriage, which was 21 years ago. No other Thai food restaurant has compared to the food here. I'm thinking Indra cooks from a different region of Thailand, because all the other Thai food restaurants that I have gone to all taste the same including the Thai Ice tea they serve. Indra's Thai Ice Tea is THE best (in my opinion). Different than the traditional Thai Ice Teas that are served at the majority of Thai food places. I have tried many dishes here and my favorites are the Chicken Curry with Bamboo shoots, Chili Garlic Beef, and the Beef Noodle soup. My family also likes the Cashew Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Pad Thai and many of the other dishes on the menu. Indra is unique in the way that their dishes are not the same as most Thai Food Restaurants. I will continue coming to Indra over and over again. My absolute favorite Thai Food restaurant! read more

I have spent a great deal of time traveling,eating and occasionally cooking in Thailand. I LOVE Thai food and am always on the lookout for a good Thai place close to home. Given all the great reviews and photos on this site from repeat customers, I was super excited to try the Thai food at Indra. Upon entering, I was pleased to see Thai people eating and Thai being spoken. I decided to go super basic for my first try and have some Chicken Satay, Phad Thai and Mango Sticky Rice. I figured a good Thai place should get these common dishes spot on. This was not the case at Indra. My Satay was on the dry side and super salty.Though the flavors were good, I couldn't finish it. The Phad Thai was incredibly bland and the noodles were mushy. I would have preferred it too sweet,which is usually the case, to the flavorless pile of mushy noodles and grisly chicken that I received. My Mango Sticky Rice? The mango was so overripe it had no flavor...none... and the coconut sauce that goes on top tasted like plain coconut milk out of the can with salt....not the thick sweet/salty sauce it should be. This was,hands down, the worst Thai food I have ever had. Not even second chance worthy. I do not recommend Indra to anyone. read more
