Highly recommend visiting Kualoa Ranch and doing this popular tour! The land is ginormous and offer sooo many different tours. I'll def come back and book one of the tour activities for horseback riding and zip-lining. The UTV tour is two hours long and you can either self-drive the UTV or book one with the tour guide. Each UTV has enough room for up to 6 people I believe. We paid $162.79 per person. They make you arrive 45 min beforehand but we showed up 25 mins beforehand and it was fine. You check in with the folks behind the counter and then they'll lead you to the area with the numbered table benches. They still made us wait for the group before us to leave before we even could line up by those tables. Once you check in, they give you a neck scarf (which you can keep) and try on helmets and goggles. You can bring your own goggles or wear sunglasses too. They make you sign waivers and also check your IDs if you're driving. Each time slot has up to 10 groups and you drive in a line, stopping at about 3-4 stops. Our tour guides were awesome and very knowledgeable in telling us facts about the different film stops. I'm a big movie/ TV show fan so it was really cool seeing some of these places in person! They had infamous sets from Jurassic World, Jumanji, King Kong, etc. They gave us plenty of time to check out some of the stops and take pictures. They're also really nice and offered to take multiple pics for us, including one with a big dinosaur in the background (they carry a dinosaur toy for these pics lol). Make sure you book in advance because they fill up the time slots quick! You will get dirty from the UTV drive so I recommend wearing something that you don't mind getting messy. Also bring a mask or wear their neck scarf so you don't breathe in the dust. At the beginning of the tour, they take your picture and then sell printed copy as a souvenir at the end for $20. They have a food court, gift shop, and bathrooms inside. There's also plenty of parking which is a plus!

So I took my grandsons, 8 yrs and 5 yrs. When we got there, I realized they accepted CASH ONLY. Went to Kualoa Ranch (1 mile away) to use their ATM. Got back in time for the tour. Needless to say, I thought I would get attitude from my 8 yr old. He's a gamer and would rather be on his DS or iPad. But he LOVED it. Even I was a bit skeptical but from the time we boarded the bus, the comedy began. Surprisingly, half our group was local. The other half, visitors from Wisconsin and Arizona. We all had a great time. Great tour of the farm and the various trees and plants. Didn't know it was a film location for so many movies. And the fire dance was up close. Lessons on making fire and husking a coconut were so interesting. Got to taste fresh coconut. All the while, the jokes kept coming, non-stop. It was time well spent. Highly recommend this tour for locals and visitors. But don't forget to bring cash. $20 Adults, ($15 kamaaina) and $10 for kids. Note, they used to have an ATM there but it was stolen. Auwe!

He was hilarious, full of fascinating stories, and somehow managed to make every bathroom stop feel like part of the adventure. The views were jaw-dropping: Diamond Head glowing in the morning sun, waves crashing at Halona Blowhole, and those movie-perfect cliffs near Kualoa Ranch. Dirk kept us entertained between stops with island legends, trivia, and a soundtrack that could make even a restroom break feel cinematic. Leonard's malasadas? Heavenly. Macadamia nut farm snacks? Dangerous in the best way. Tanaka's garlic shrimp? Worth every bite and every burp. Turtle Beach was the crown jewel--relaxing, peaceful, and filled with lazy sea turtles living their best lives. Dirk's timing was perfect, his humor was infectious, and his love for the island made every mile memorable. I laughed, I learned, I ate too much, and I never once regretted it. If you want a full day of Oahu beauty, good vibes, and an expert guide who'll keep you smiling and on schedule, this is the tour. Mahalo, Dirk, you're the real MVP of island adventures!

Ending 2021 with a review of this AWESOME company! I can't say enough about the great service Laie…read moreVanilla Company (LVC) gave me. I ordered vanilla beans and a vanilla kit at the end of November. A day later I wanted to order a few more kits, so contacted LVC and owner, Saili, let me know that I could pay for them and they would include them in the original order. I received a notification that my original order was mailed out (the first order was the only one noted). I'm not sure why, but the postal person did not deliver them (it was storming on delivery day, unsure if he felt it was too wet to leave for me). I received a notification that it was returned to the post office and I immediately rescheduled delivery. It was labeled as such on the tracking that it was supposed to be redelivered. The redelivery date came and went. Since I was using these for Christmas gifts, I reached out to LVC just to make sure both of my orders were included in the same box since the tracking info only listed the first order products. I thought that maybe if not everything was in there, I could have LVC mail the second order in an effort to get some gifts on time. Saili let me know everything was in the box. Saili also tried to call the post office but they did not answer (thank you Saili for trying!). Just before Christmas I got an email that my delivery was received. I was so excited thinking my box was dropped off. To my surprise, the box was delivered back to LVC! I contacted Saili and asked what my options were. Unfortunately the holidays are so busy I could not make it out to Laie to pick up and that's when the most unexpected thing happened. Saili offered to drop it off at my house. Aloha spirit alive and well! Thank you again Laie Vanilla and Saili! I see other reviews noting a vanilla tour - would love to do this one day. Can't wait to get my vanilla beans marinating! Support local!

At the end of the tour we were given cutting to grow our own vanilla bean vine, and were taught how to care for the plant. Honestly, a great way to spend your afternoon!! Grabbed a vanilla extract kit they sell down the road, a perfect way to remember this beautiful day!! Highly highly recommend it!!

Dole Plantation - Chocolate dipped Dole Whip

Be a pineapple: Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside…read more Visiting Dole Plantation was honestly a strange mix of fun, beauty, history, and a little bit of emotional whiplash. Which, to be fair, is probably the most historically accurate way to experience a place with the word "plantation" in the name. On one hand, it's genuinely beautiful. The grounds are lush, the air smells incredible, and the pineapple everything is incredibly delicious. The Dole Whip absolutely lived up to the hype, and the gardens, train ride, and giant maze had this cheerful old Hawai'i roadside attraction energy that felt charming instead of overly polished. It was wholesome. I even saw a few adorable cats being fed by the workers. There is also this underlying awareness the entire time where your brain quietly goes, "...wait." Why? Because plantations are not cute historically. The word itself carries a lot of weight tied to colonization, labor exploitation, and the reshaping of Hawai'i for corporate agriculture and tourism. So walking through a place that's simultaneously serving pineapple soft serve while existing within that history creates a peculiar emotional duality that's hard to ignore. Honestly, I appreciated that feeling. Not because the history is good, because it absolutely isn't, but because places should make us think a little. Hawai'i is stunning but it's also layered and complicated and visiting somewhere like this becomes more meaningful when you acknowledge both the beauty and the discomfort instead of pretending one cancels out the other. The experience ended up feeling less like, "Yay pineapples!" and more like a reminder that travel is best when you let yourself enjoy the present while still respecting the history underneath it. Note: I totally destroyed a Dole Whip because personal growth, historical awareness, and pineapple soft serve with fresh pineapple can intertwine, okay?
