super delicious! obviously a bit expensive (especially if you're ordering the meat dishes) but so far the best indian food i've had in the city. the vegetarian options are two for $19, and all come with a side of rice, chhole, and spinach. the chhole is absolutely delicious. i ordered the mutter paneer and the baingan bharta. both were great but the baingan bharta was out of this world. the smokiness of the eggplant was especially pronounced compared to other baingan bhartas i've had, and i really enjoyed every bite. the portion size was also enormous; the leftovers lasted me two extra meals! the ambiance is also nice; the heaters keep it very toasty in the outside eating area. this place is near my new job and i will have to exercise a lot of self-control not to come back every week! read more

I'm really surprised that the average for Indigo isn't 5 stars. I've been going to this place consistently since I moved to DC about three years ago and have never had a single disappointment. Part of me wants to describe it as a no-frills type place because you get your own water, utensils, and sauces, but the other part of me loves the character of the heated patio, the eccentric posters and wall art, and some great drink options. There's a certain vibe that really cannot be replicated, and whether Indian or not, it feels familiar. The food is wonderful. I go back and get the same meal every time (spicy saag with chicken) and it is so delicious. The only time I was ever disappointed was when I tried to make this at home and it tasted nothing like it, so I literally had to go to Indigo to get my fix. I've also tried all of the appetizers and sides, and they're all great. Everything just makes sense together, so no need to try to "pair" and make it complicated. From what I've tried from my friends' dishes, the other entrees are just as flavorful (but I still love my saag meal). So warm, so flavorful, so filling. I have never recommended a restaurant more than this one. Every time I hear someone is new in town, I tell them about this place and offer to go with them. All my friends do the same thing (which is how I got hooked!) and it's a frequented spot of ours. read more

Had a delicious meal here! We were the only ones in the restaurant for lunch on a weekday in the off season but I'm so glad we checked It out! I started off my meal with a delicious Marsala chai and it was delicious. Piping hot with a strong flavor and they gave me plenty of free refills. I got the chicken tikka masala and my friends split the spinach palak and channa masala. It was all delicious is a good flavor and a large serving size. The chicken tikka was a little bit of a lighter flavor than I used to. But I did ask for a mild spice level so you could ask for more spice. The samosas and garlic naan were also great. This place is very close to our Airbnb and we had it on our list to visit. The night we planned to go a cold front came through DC and it was in the low 40's. I wasn't sure the outdoor seating was going to work for us Floridians. It ended up being perfectly fine. Plastic roll down curtains surround the seating area and they have numerous outdoor heaters. This is a locals place and was pretty busy when we arrived. You place your order at the counter and then are given a number. When your food is ready a server calls out your number and brings your selections. We ordered samosas, chicken tikka and goat curry. The Sami were great. Both meals came with basmati rice and chickpeas. My husband and I enjoyed the tikka more than the goat. The goat was not as flavorful. They have an outdoor bar and you can order beer and wine. I come here for the chickpeas, known as Chana Masala, on the menu! I like to get the veggie plate, but I also love the butter chicken! I've tried the Curry shrimp, but the spice was way too much for me. Until this week, I've always ordered take out. It was a pleasant experience sitting outside on the covered patio. They have qr codes on all of the tables for you to order, and they bring your food out to you. They also have water stations, extra utensils, sauces, and to-go lids readily available inside. I live very close to Indigo but probably eat it once every six months; each time I go back I'm reminded why it had been so long since I'd eaten there. The dishes I've tried are average and the value for money is sorely lacking. I ordered the butter chicken entree for pickup and brought it home to eat. The butter chicken comes with chickpeas and rice that is inexplicably topped with raw spinach. The butter chicken lacks any complexity or depth of flavor and isn't even very buttery. While this dish is not supposed to be overcomplicated, there are very few discernible flavors in Indigo's version. Even the tomato flavor was so mild that I was left disappointed. I understand that this place is popular for people who don't eat Indian food often and that there aren't that many Indian places in this particular vicinity. Neither of those facts excuse this lackluster and boring dish, especially given the price. For $18, I don't believe this meal is worth it. Also I found the prices to be high and the portions small for what they seem to advertise as a fast casual Indian establishment. It is a michelkn star restaurant so I suppose they are allowed to increase their prices. All that being said, the food was delicious! They have the most delicious chicken tikka masala I've ever had! There was so much flavor and depth to this dish. We also ordered the vegetarian platter - which is a nice way to sample multiple dishes. Their paneer was okay, I've had better elsewhere. Both of our orders came with rice with chick peas on top. I think portion wise -- it is a little bit smaller for what you're paying, but you are definitely paying for quality. We had the Mango Masala and Chicken Tiki Masala meals, with a few pieces of the Plain Roti and Samosas. I thought it was pretty standard food, when I compare it to the Indian restaurants in Los Angeles. I especially enjoyed the roti, since it was warm and fresh. It's difficult for me to enjoy restaurants that aren't doing their part to take care of the environment. Everything is served in disposable containers, to include plastic cups, forks, spoons and knives. A big turn off for me. Street parking in the area. I had a Chicken Tikka Meal, which was good, but the Nepalese cuisine at home was far better tastewise. The butter chicken was rich and creamy. Flavors at Himalayan Range are still preferable for it as well. Mostly self-serve, the service was decent. Everything was throwaway, hence I didn't rate it five stars. You can never go wrong with indigo. I have been going here for years, and the food never disappoints. It's family owned and you can usually see them around the location on most days, either at the register or in the kitchen cooking. They have a great covered outdoor seating area, with a bar, cool lighting, and it's a lovely patio to eat, drink and people watch. As for food, the butter chicken is awesome, the curry is amazing and the chicken saag is very flavorful and definitely spicy. They also have veggie samosas that are worth trying. There's water, juices, and beer available inside within their fridge and of course more options and cocktails at the bar outside. They also have many vegetarian options as well which is nice. I got the butter chicken delivered for lunch. Wish that there was a bit more rice but that's because the portions of the chicken were huge!!! Because of the sauce, this dish was a tad messy and upon opening the container some sauce splashed out, just to be warned! We also got different naans which tasted great and small cups of a chickpea curry/sauce, which is great for dipping the naan in or just a different flavor to eat with the rice. The service felt disorganized and not super efficient. This could have been my fault-I accidentally scanned the menu when I first entered the patio, so my food was packaged to go instead of delivered to my table. If you scan the menu once you are seated you will likely have a better service experience. We came here for dinner while in DC. This was potentially the best Indian food I've ever had, but I'm also from Texas and we aren't known for our Indian food. The service was kind of slow, if I'm being honest, but they were busy and we were able to enjoy our drinks while waiting. The quality of the food was outstanding. I had dinner here with some colleagues while we were in town for a meeting. It was a Thursday night and very busy! If you want to eat in, you find a table, scan the QR code at your table which pulls up the menu. You then order and pay from your phone. I can't say I'm a fan of this method....we managed to navigate the menu though and figure out that many items have multiple sizes...I ended up getting the 8oz Baingan aloo and 8oz rice. This was a good guess at a single serving size for a light dinner. I also had a mango lassi. I probably would have ordered something else too, but my eyes were done trying to read the menu on my phone. Since the QR code is tied to your table the order comes out with that table number on it. One glitch though, if everyone at your table puts in separate orders, they won't come out together. Anyway, despite the ordering hassles, the food was delicious! The Baingan aloo is eggplant and potato; the spice level was good for this dish; a little heat, but didn't overpower the vegetables. The rice was freshly cooked and the mango lassi was delicious and refreshing. The food was absolutely amazing. The Paneer Pakora are a great appetizer with it managing to be flavorful despite being simple ingredients. The mango chicken and Punjabi chicken dishes were also great entree picks with both being spiced perfectly and well portioned. It was also great that the dishes were served with rice and chickpeas.
