I LOVE LOVE LOVE Indigo Ranch! We've been taking our doggies there for several years now, and they always come back happy and tired and definitely not stressed out. I love that the atmosphere is like a home, with couches and beds everywhere, and my dogs also get lots of romping outside in the huge fenced paddocks, as well. The drive to Vernonia is beautiful (and on the way, if you're going to the coast) plus they offer a reasonably priced taxi service from Beaverton if you don't have time to drop them yourself. I was in Seaside OR last weekend from Seattle WA when all of a sudden had to find a place for my chihuahua Zoey to stay. Our hotel was awful and all doggie boarding was full. We drove an hour and a half to drop her off at Indigo and don't regret it at all. They were so nice and helpful to us in our time of need. Zoey is...a special dog that takes some extra lovin because of her fears, and they gave that to her! The dogs obviously get LOTS of attention and play time while they are there. I can't think of any other boarding place that would be as good for any dog, and it was SO affordable! What an awesome place for dogs! My dog has stayed at various places - Chicago daycares, Six flags, groomers, vet, etc. Indigo Ranch is the only place besides home that she is happy and excited to go to when we get out of the car. She is still not happy when I leave (that would probably make me feel like chopped liver), but I know they are treating her well and she is having fun. We also had a "whistle" on her last time (like a fitband for dogs) and it showed that she received about an hour of actual exercise per day which is way more than at home! Our dog is 11 yo and fairly portly but she loses weight every time she stays. Note that some dogs run and play side-by-side with their llamas, which are separated by a fence from the dogs! They also post facebook pics of the dogs playing and hanging out, which is nice. And the price is competitive. FYI - Indigo Rescue (the non-profit that 100% of your money funds) takes fat rescues and trims them down to be adopted out. So if your dog stays here, you get two added bonuses of 1) your money going to help dogs get adopted and 2) your dog gets healthier - google "dog fat camp." And the people that run the place are passionate about their cause and the dogs. The only down side? It is FAR off the beaten path. If you are heading to the coast, great, but otherwise, their taxi service is $25 each way and saves you 45 minutes x 2 as the drop off is at the Petsmart parking lot in Hillsboro/Tansbourne. Next time, I will actually spend the money to put her in the Petsmart ($18) so we do not have to wait for a specific pickup time. That will require another copy of her shot records, but will be worth it so hubby can just drop her off on the way to a customer. We live in Camas, WA, but this place is worth the drive. Our pup loves coming here whenever we go out of town. It's truly heaven for dogs -- they get their own dorms (yes, dorms) that have couches and TVs. They get plenty of time to run around and play in the large outside area. This is like a real ranch -- way out in the country, and the dogs love checking out the goats, horses and alpacas through the fence. And the prices are very reasonable for boarding. The staff here is unfailingly friendly and really cares about the animals. Sometimes it's hard to get out do to come home when we go to pick her up. I think she might rather live at the ranch. It's like summer camp for pooches. The only downside is how tremendously far away it is from downtown Portland, but you can request a taxi service that will pick your pup up in Hillsboro. read more

Harper had the most amazing weekend! It was his first weekend away from us and we could tell he had a great time. He slept the ENTIRE way home so we know he was well exercised and got lots of love. Ashley was super kind and Harper absolutely adored her! It is amazing to not have to worry about Harper while we are away! We adopted Harper from Indigo Rescue so it's also comforting and rewarding to give back to an incredible organization that gave us our best friend! read more

Awesome cage free boarding and daycare on 16 acres! My dogs are safe and happy and so well cared for. They have a small dog dorm so my chihuahua can stay safe and secure while my Great Dane runs with the big dogs! They'll even taxi the dogs for me if I'm unable to drive them myself. Hands down, INDIGO IS THE BEST place that you can board your dog in the Portland area! My dog is a big ball of energy, and was initially rejected from Three Dogs boarding in NE Portland basically because a small indoor space with 50 other dogs and very little outdoor space (and no grass) was not going to be a good fit for him. They suggested Indigo to me, and I am SO glad they did... I wanted a place where I didn't have to worry about Sunny (a Black German Shepherd/Great Dane-ish mix) being crated or kenneled, and where he had lots of room to run. He has a lot of energy to burn and he loves being with other dogs. They only crate them during feeding times if need be due to potential food aggression, but they will honor your requests if you don't even want them to do that. They have a nice grass area right next to the dorms and then 3 big dog runs, one of which is pebbled and the other two of which are grass. They let the dogs out constantly throughout the day, and even late at night sometimes. They have three separate 'dorms' where the dogs stay - they're pretty big and have a ton of couches with linens on them, and they do laundry often. Two of the dorms have garage-type doors that they keep open and are covered with chicken wire (or something like that) so that the dogs can sit on the couches and look outside and get a nice cross breeze. What I appreciate the most is that they put a lot of thought into observing which dogs get along best and then board them together accordingly. I honestly cannot say enough nice things about Indigo. Laura, who works there, is super nice and you can tell that they really do care about your animals and the animals that they rescue. And where else can you say that ALL of your money goes to their non-profit rescue shelter?? I've read the negative reviews, and regarding "misrepresentation" - this place is the most up-front and honest place I have checked out, and I believe that there are varying degrees of misrepresentation for most (if not all) dog boarding places. And about the crating and snarkiness - my dog can be "snarky" when he is tired, or being reactive, or just being a dog, or whatever, and if Indigo has the space (which they generally always do) they will put the 'snarky' dog in a dorm by themselves until they have simmered down. Also, it's nice to know that Indigo will take your dog regardless of slight temperment issues, because they understand that dogs are dogs. Sunny was rejected from the other place because he "overcorrected" a younger dog for biting him in the face - twice - which last time I checked, older dogs are supposed to keep younger puppies in check when they'e acting too crazy or aggresive. The drive to Vernonia is a bit of a ways, but it is beautiful and the taxi is affordable considering how far out they are and that gas is probably pretty pricey for the bus they have. They are very open to letting you come and check out the place anytime, and this assures me that they don't have anything to hide - unlike other places where I was only allowed to come check out the property during certain windows of time, or where I had to see the facilities behind a glass window and through pictures on their computer (which was the case with Three Dogs boarding). SO TAKE YOUR DOG TO INDIGO!! Your dog will be happy and well taken care of, and you'll be donating to a great cause :) read more

Cannot recommend Indigo Ranch enough. It is the only place we take our dog Mali when we travel. It's as close to doggy camp as we have ever seen and, when we come to pick her up, it's absolutely certain that she has has received a lot of exercise and even more love. I was sure surprised when I arrived at 12 noon to pick up my dog after a 7 day stay and all of the dogs were locked up in crates! The staff snuck into the other room where my dog was and let out the dogs in that one room before she let me come back to see my dog. I asked why the other dogs in the other room were crated up, and she said, 'oh, they're all snarky'. Hmmmm.... I think the dogs are basically well cared for there in general, but I question how much time they really spend caged when they advertise themselves as 'cage-free'. I also wonder how much human interaction my dog had during the stay. read more

The folks here are fantastic. I was nervous since this is the 1st time I've left my pup overnight at a boarding facility. When I called, I talked to Angie and she instantly made me feel really comfortable (her knowledge and love for Boxers, which is what I have, made me relieved since she can be a bit of an alpha and aggressively plays with other dogs). Upon arrival, Laura greeted me. She didn't bend over backwards putting on a show or anything. It was just business as usual and a new friend for the night. She let met know checking in on Facebook was sometimes the fastest since they don't always hear the phone. She chatted with me about some various options and was re-assuring. Although I have nothing to compare to, it seemed very generous how much they took them out to potty and play. I'll likely be let down if I have to take her somewhere else in the future. I was not at all apprehensive to leave my girl in their care. It was a bummer she only got to stay for the night. I will certainly be bringing her back! Worth the extra drive off Hwy 26. read more

Love the ranch! One of my three dogs was an adoption and I thought that he had aggression issues. I took him to multiple specialized dog trainers and he can sit, stay, and rollover with the best of them, but he would still make me nervous if other dogs were in the area near him (one of the trainers kicked him out because he growled). I nervously took him out to the ranch as I had recently lost my in-home babysitter and not only did he mix well with the other dogs, but we found that rather than an aggression issue, he was just nervous around other dogs. So not only did he get great care, but his socialization skills were significantly improved. Their staff is well trained in dog behavioral traits. I now no longer get nervous every time another dog comes near us. My other two dogs love the ranch as well. They came home exhausted from playing so hard with the other dogs. It is a great environment for the dogs and I love that they have carpool available to get them from Portland area out to the ranch. read more
