I know that getting my hair bleached to the palest levels of blonde by a cosmetology student is a…read morelittle insane but I do it anyway cause I ain't rich :-) A tip for anyone with fine hair going blonde: make sure to ask for a low volume of peroxide like 15 or lower, to prevent over-processing. My hair is intact thanks to this technique, yay. So, I asked to have my very long brunette root outgrowth lightened to blend with the ends, without toner. I do this to prep my hair for pastel temporary dyes like pink or lilac. I didn't need a perfect result but I lost some confidence in this business because they initially weren't willing to acknowledge the different levels of blonde here (see pics). I was trying to ask for advice and a follow up appointment, not a refund. Reluctantly, an instructor told me to return in a week and they'd fix the huge brassy band for $40. I am biased because I'm comparing this salon school to the one I usually visit in California, which has always been so meticulous and upfront about my hair, yet charges the same rates. So between the lightening process, a haircut and a complimentary style, this service was $80 and I tipped $5. The student gave me a really nice French braid though. I'd come back for updos and haircuts, just not bleach.
