My days of going to the Bluebird 2-3 times a week are long behind me, but as I was attending a show…read morethis weekend, I realized I have never done a Yelp review, and since it's potentially the best bar on the planet, I decided I needed to correct that oversight. During my college years, a good portion of my Bloomington memories are from the Bluebird. Fantastic bands, good friends and a somewhat aggressive number of drinks were the common theme multiple nights a week. Now that I'm OLD(er) the visits are less frequent, but when the right bands are in town and my calendar isn't slammed with adulting, I still find the Bird to be my favorite place in town. The original Bluebird was about half the size it is today. Several years ago, they bought out the restaurant next door and added a large additional space, leading to a pretty big bar/nightclub with a 'bar area' that includes a nice full bar, booths and tables, and the 'live music' portion which has a big stage, plenty of room for big crowds, and a warehouse vibe that is second to none. When you arrive, you'll start to see pictures of the amazing acts that run thru the Bluebird when they're just on the cusp of being 'huge' - from REM to Miranda Lambert to Gryffin, just about every genre is represented and it's nice to say 'I saw them with a few hundred of my friends' after you give ticketmaster your kidney to pay for their giant stadium shows. Reasonable drink prices, good people behind the bar, and the best bands currently playing the area, you can't go wrong with a night at the Bluebird. I wish I was still young and able to do multiple shows every week, but for now I'll just appreciate having it in my backyard so I can attend with the mood hits . Best bar in Bloomington. Probably anywhere.

I was very happy to find out about this place. Urban Air is junk, and Jumpin' Joey's is best for…read morethe slightly younger crowd. This place has a cool concept, but is best done in groups. There are claw machines, a couple of virtual reality chairs, and some fun game rooms, by which I mean the room itself is a game. The virtual reality likely shows movies that have a lot of movement, and the chairs move to help simulate the motion. I was with my kid, so the novelty wore off very quickly. There was one group of very loud and rowdy girls who were having a good time and seemed to want to make sure everyone knew it. Our favorite one was the room with the lasers where you have to cross without touching any. The next was the room with the light up floor where you have to knock out colors without hitting the red. Overall, there isn't a ton of variety. I like the idea, but the space is so small it might be limiting them a bit.

I tried the sour tart drink everyone talked about and it is a wonderful drink if you like sweet drinks (which I do). We got there right at 7:00pm when they open and there was no cover charge. Drinks were affordable. I think the only thing holding me back from giving a five star review is the size. They need more space and more games, it was ok the first hour but when it got busier it felt like everyone was on top of each other. The bartender was great in suggesting drink options. Bathrooms were clean. Atmosphere was fantastic! If you like old arcade games and just a fun and inviting place to hangout late at night this is the place for you! It's downtown Bloomington so you'll have to park in a garage or at a meter. Parking prices are reasonable.

Fortune had everyone laughing and her interaction with the audience was great. After the show she sold her own merch in the lobby, signed autographs and posed for photos. Puppets! Marionettes! Halloween! Oh my!…read more My wife and I took our 3 and 5 year old kids to Nashville a Friday in October to walk and explore. One of the stops was the Melchior Marionette Theatre. I was great fun. It is located right on the main strip of Van Buren Street. The cost is $5 per person - I think two and under are free. The show lasts about 20 minutes and it is well worth the cost. The woman who put it on exhibits a sense of love of her work. The show was very entertaining. Since we were there in October, the theme was a haunted puppet show (slightly haunted - not scary at all). Additionally, there is free popcorn for everyone! Loved the show, the art and the enthusiasm of the owners.

What a cool place to explore right on campus!…read more I've passed the Jordan Hall Greenhouse I don't even know how many times. This place is a real hidden gem attached to Jordan Hall on 3rd Street. Parking is a pain as there is only very limited street parking, but it is totally worth it. It's a greenhouse, so it's definitely hot! Probably better visited during colder months but I ventured in during 84 degree weather and it was just fine. This place has a ton of plants to check out in rooms of various temperatures. We saw cotton plants, a pineapple tree and even got a look at Wally, the rare corpse flower that only blooms every 8-20 years. Thankfully it doesn't last long so we didn't smell that stench! I had a great time going between the different temperatures... it was fun to go from the dessert to the tropics in just a few steps. It's definitely a must visit in Bloomington if you love plants!
