This place has no business being where it is. I'd put their food up against urban Indian places any day. Instead, it's not near anything and shares a building with a gas station. Service is table-side but you pay at the desk. Portions are large and most people end up taking a box home. I'd say for two people, get two dishes to share and a single appetizer, too. They will allow a lot of alterations to your dishes and are careful to meet your spice tolerance. Do not expect a lot of answers on what exactly this or that dish is; the wait staff know how to put the orders in but not the intricacies of what separates chicken tikka from chicken tikka masala. The space is small, but I have gone with my wife and with 12 people and had no problems getting seating. Do check the times they are open, because if it's within 30 minutes of closing they can probably only get your food for you to-go. Most people like the skewered meat or korma-type foods. I'd say an order of naan is NOT sufficient for two people, so order double or a mix of two types (they have over 6 to choose from). If you don't do meat, they have fish dishes. And if you are vegetarian you'll be fine, but probably not a lot for a vegan. They also have a fusion East Asian section at the back of the menu. I've tried it and like it, but I'd say it's a bit heavier than the rest of the menu. TL;DR - If you don't know what something is, use their wifi and google it. It's a simpler process than asking the waitress who will ask the cook who will explain it to her so she can remember half of it and explain it to you. Also, usually a good idea to pair one meat dish with one vegetarian if you are splitting with someone. Maybe try one thing new and one old trusted item (saag paneer). read more

This place is next to a gas station on a rural road. I definitely wondered whether it would be better to keep going to an urban area with more food options. To which the answer is, no it would not. From their broad menu I picked a basic order of chickpeas and bread. The menu promised "tongue-tingling spices" with those chickpeas, which I thought was a little ridiculous and was probably overselling it. But my chickpea curry indeed made my tongue tingle a little bit, delivering robust spiciness as I'd asked, but a complex flavor with astringent herbal notes and a hint of sweetness as well. My bread seemed just a tad overcooked, which evidences the fact that it was cooked freshly, as my observations indicated. Serving portion size was very small and price was high for what is usual for Indian take out I have to be honest I love Indian food. It's my favorite and I was not totally impressed. Operating a restaurant is really, really hard. From staffing to food costs, it's a struggle. So props to Indian Oven. It's a cute little place, basic but modern. The food is tasty. I know we're all used to mammoth portions but it's not possible for restaurants to serve you a dinner to eat and enough for dinner tomorrow night, too. Yes, I also miss those days and those prices. Because the food is in fact tasty, we will go back. It's important to support the new food establishments giving it a go in places like Lovingston where there are so few options. Hopefully, Indian Oven will develop enough of a customer base to make portions just a little bigger. TBH, my chicken dish was so small, I thought it was some kind of side dish to my main entree. Great little Indian restaurant just outside Lovingston on Hwy 29. I ordered takeout on the way home. Food was hot, fresh, and cooked to the spice level requested. Portions are good for the price. The cashew chicken and malai kofta are our "go-to picks; but everything on the menu is great. Don't waste your taste buds on "mild"... step up to at least medium and let the chef play with flavor. This was out first trip to SpiceKraft and we will definitely be back. The service was fantastic and the food was even better. I had the lamb chops and they were tender with tons of flavor. Hard to believe this is attaches to a gas station. Food was amazing, service was great and once inside you forgot about the gas station. Nicely decorated Indian restaurant with a full menu. Absolutely delicious! We went when they only had a limited menu before officially opening, but really enjoyed the tikka masala and the butter chicken. Garlic nan is on point. If you are used to Indian food, recommend going "hot" on spice as we found the medium to be pretty mild. Service has been spectacular. We look forward to trying new dishes as more are available. Many residents and visitors to Nelson County fondly remember the Thai Siam Cafe, a little mom-and-pop tucked back on a country road that served astonishingly good Thai cuisine. It is closed but the Indian Oven has taken up the mantle as the unassuming Asian eatery that punches way above its weight. Connected to a gas station on route 29 between Lovingston and Woods Mill, Indian Oven serves up a range of elegantly-spiced Northern and Southern Indian dishes and the best made-from-scratch naan I've ever had. We tried to think of when we'd had better Indian food and the only thing we came up with was a Michelin-starred restaurant in London. Very friendly folks. Me and my dad went here and had the most delicious food we've had in a while. Lovingston doesn't have a lot of restaurants but this is definitely our favorite one now. We tried the tikka masala and the lamb rogan Josh and it was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. To top it off, they added saffron threads and sauce to our ice cream! I just read about the tradition of Southern restaurants in gas stations, so I was thrilled to find this wonderful Indian place attached to the Sunny Mountain Store and gas station in Nelson County. The food is authentic and delicious, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere casual. Early reviews say the menu is limited, but they've had a few months to expand it to a large selection. The alcohol selection is small (beer and wine) but more than adequate. We had a mix of veg and fish appetizers that came with three sauces, and everything was perfectly seasoned. We shared the Shahi paneer for a main course, which came in a creamy sauce and was fantastic and decadent. As everyone has mentioned, the garlic naan was special. The place is right on 29, about a mile north of Lovingston, so it's convenient whether you're in Nelson or passing through. So thrilled to find this place, and we can't wait to go back! read more
