Inside the market you can find an area designated for their hot-food station with some inside seating. Most dishes are vegetarian and some are vegan. Non-vegetarian option is limited to Chicken Biriyani, which is made off-site at a restaurant. The dessert counter are full of traditional Indian sweets next to the market's entrance. I enjoy stopping by India Sweets & Spices (any locations: Northridge, Canoga Park, Los Feliz ) for products and Southern Indian Savory Snacks made in-house. Tried and true. This place keeps me coming back because of its authentic flavors and fair prices. You can feed two people a hearty vegetarian meal for $20! All their food has a description of what is inside, whether it be cauliflower, eggplants, potatoes, legumes, etc. It's situated inside an Indian market. And they recently updated their seating to some cozy booths. They also keep jugs of water at every table. We enjoy this place for buying spices, tea and some other packaged items. It's a favorite go-to when we want a quick samosa snack after school or an Indian dinner. The hot lunch menu changes often and all of it's delicious. The portions are hearty and a great deal. Fresh naan to order is amazing. My four star review is more about the customer service and desserts. The staffs English isn't great so I found it challenging asking for help or having questions answered. The one person looked annoyed with me for trying to ask what the different sweets were or tasted like as he kept repeating "they're sweet". Finally he got someone else who could communicate better with me and they were kind enough to even give us a sample to taste. We loved them so much we came back a few days later to buy more. Sadly, some of them were so old and dried out that when we tried to eat them at home they were rock hard and had to throw them away. The negative experience isn't enough to keep me from coming back; but enough to not give it 5 stars. read more

The food is great and I am a repeated customer. A great place to go to satisfy an indian craving, however, an older women gave horrible customer service. I usually get the combo #2. With the container they provide for #2 to go, the liquidy curries will not hold inside. I asked if they could put it in a small plastic seal tight containers so it will not spill during the drive home. She does not have to fill the container to the top, I just don't want the spill. She said no that's too bad, it's an extra charge for the containers. She should think of changing to better seal tight containers that do not spill over or provide a better option. There was a time that this India Sweets and Spices location was a hit or miss. Recently though, it seems to have had a turn around in the positive direction. I come here mostly to get carry out of different size containers of vegetable options from their hot case. The items are prepared fresh and come out around 11 am. I have to say that their vegetable samosas are always different and good. Their freshly prepared aloo paratha has improved by leaps and bounds. Having that only with Raita is a treat. You get the chance to not only taste the potatoes, but also the wheat portion of the Paratha with its nice charred taste. The offerings in the hot case change daily, so if you are in the mood for vegetarian Indian food and do not wish to cook, stop by here. The majority of the space is a grocery store, with reasonable prices and a vast selection of everything that you will need (including snacks), to show your culinary prowess in your home kitchen. I love this place and come here all the time. The eating area is very large and clean, which makes it a great spot to enjoy the lunch special or the dahi puri. The food in the cafeteria section is amazing and the staff is always so friendly and welcoming. I also do my grocery shopping here because it is so convenient to have everything in one spot. My family and I continue to come here whenever we are in the area. My mom wished to come here this afternoon as we were in the area for an event. As we came after 3 pm, the place was very empty, and there was no line in the front nor for the restaurant in the back. The place continues to provide a nice variety of items, but the vegetable section is still small. The food here is great. They change the menu regularly. We got lassis today; we all enjoyed them. Great service. When you come in, you instantly get greeted and seated and asked if you are ordering or there for the lunch buffet. We always go for the buffet, then you are asked about your preference for Naan. You are free to go about getting your own plate and packing it at your own desire. you can always get another plate to get more food, and don't worry, they refill the food quite frequently and quickly when any of it goes low. The food is great. Everything tastes fresh. The goat is amazing; it is well cooked and does not have game smell to it. One thing I would wish for, is some Sagg without the Paneer. Just straight Sagg would be nice, for those with Lactose problems :) but it is nice that there is a decent variety for those with Lactose problems. This place is the best. You'd be hard pressed to find flavorful, vegetarian food of this quality at this price! It tastes like your grandma is cooking it in the back. So flavorful, so fast, and just so good! The staff is also all so sweet and focused on getting you your food timely and kindly. It's not a restaurant but a grocery store with a food court style area in the back so you aren't really going for the ambiance but it's very homely and sweet nonetheless. You can also get your grocery shopping done before or after you eat so it's super convenient. And if you crave something sweet after go to the front counter and get yourself some yummy goods! Met a friend here for a late meal. Unassuming restaurant in a spice shop. Decent portion sizes good flavor, and good variety of dishes. I ordered the Aloo Gobi. Cooked well and really enjoyed it. Naan was made fresh and was fantastic. Service and cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Worker seemed bothered by customers being in there. I ordered the combo and paid 15 dollars on a 12 dollar total. Worker didnt give me change or a receipt. He just walked off. Also they have an old Thrifty's Ice Cream sign hanging up but when asked, they said they dont sell ice cream. Some days are better than others. Generally I resonate with other comments on the rudeness of the employees. I used to leave big tips, but when they started getting rude, I stopped tipping. Sometimes I wait till end of service to tip, instead of when I order. Recently I was there and saw an employee wearing a pair of gloves, but he was sick and coughed into the glove and then handling sweets with the same glove within a few seconds. read more

Customer service here is pretty awful. I think it's just family run and not very organized or professional. I called on a Friday to order 30 samosas to be picked up the next day at 10:30am. I was running late so I called to let them know that I would be there at 11am. The person who answered the phone said "ok". So I show up at 11am and the samosas aren't even ready. No one even knew I had an order to pick up! How is it possible to speak to two people (or the same person) and no one knows I have an order to be picked up? I wait for a half hour, order a chai tea and some other snacks to try out while I wait for my samosas. It's fine and the samosas are pretty tasty, though greasier than I would like. I guess I can't expect much for $1.25 a piece. But, seriously, customer service sucks. People aren't super friendly, though the cashier woman who helped me was pretty sweet. It's like everyone is obligated to be there and not like they want to be there. I used to work at my family's restaurant so I remember being a jerk too, but I was also 15 years old and these folks are over 30 so they should know better. But the place has been around for decades (looks like it too) so I guess whoever comes here regularly doesn't mind the lack of service. Not sure I'll be back. Everyone who works here is so nice. I am a self taught home cook and have finally gotten brave enough to try cooking Indian food. I got a list together of all the spices I didn't already have and found all of them here. When I went to check out, the woman at the register asked if someone I knew was cooking real Indian food. Although this store has a good variety of grocery available, the customer service is horrible! Ever since the cashier has changed, the service has noticeably gone down. I had taken my friend to this store to introduce him to Indian spices and snacks. When he went to check out, his card had declined. When he swiped his card again, the cashiers said "people like these are scammers" in Punjabi. Many employees here will follow you around the store and stare at you as if you are stealing something! This place has great prices for the food they offer. I enjoy bitter Mellon, okra and their spinach items. Also, their chai is one of the best. What I don't like is that they don't know to clean their stainless steel top desk napkins holders because they are a petty dish micro incubator from all the fingers touching them. They look really disgusting and it's ridiculous that they are not educated to clean them and they focus only on cleaning the tables. Let's talk about the food. 4/5 I was really only there to get Samosa but I think she noticed that I am quiet fairly new to Indian Cuisine. I ended up having a combo for only $5.99 and 4 Samosas $.75 with a total of $9.30 with tax. The combo consisted of Puri, Stir Fried Basmati rice, 2 main dish. ( i'm sorry i can't what it's called! but see the pic--leftover ) Customer service: 5/5 The young lady has by far have the best customer service I have experienced ever since I got in California! She accommodated me by introducing me each dishes they have on the bar. Describes and explain the ingredients used. I normally go for the samosas in the cafeteria and every time i take it to potlucks, everyone enjoys them. the other food there is also very good. it's Vegetarian of course. You could also find many common indian spices that you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere like garam masala, kashmiri chili powder etc. For you non Indians, do not hesitate to go try out the food or ask about their products. I've been going to this place for quite some time now. I wanna say 8 years? And everytime I come the food is good. Some days are better than others but it's never been horrible. Everything is generally well spiced. The star is always the samosa. I've had samosas in India and a lot of other Indian restaurants, these are still the best.Hot food available is ever changing but will consistently have two rices, Chana, daal, and saag. Which is good, because those are the things I ALWAYS get. If they have Gobi Manchurian or Aloo Gobi available, best believe I'm getting those too. Bhature, Paratha, Chapati are also good. Their naan however, could use some work. The price point is great for the amount you get. Service is fine, I could see how some people could get off put at times but if I'm being honest, just get over it, get your food, and eat. Throughout the years I've been there I've had some incidences where they haven't been the nicest but oh well. Ambience is cool, it's just a small market w/ hot food and some Punjabi music playing in the background. Love coming to this place for some Indian comfort food. There is a very homey vibe when you come in. I haven't tried too many items from the menu, but everything I have has been good. My favorite food to order is the Paneer Dosa. They have a few different types of dosas, and I've enjoyed all of them so far. The prices are also awesome, the portions you get are well worth it. Also to my knowledge, all their dishes are vegetarian in case you don't eat meat. The store is in the corner of the plaza, shared with quite a few other shops. The $6.99 vegetarian lunch special includes rice, yogurt, yummy pickled vegetables (often overlooked and underrated) and any 2 vegetarian items. Naan (garlic) is $1 extra with the special. They pack it to the point of overflowing. Totally amazing value. Best for carry-out, as it's cafeteria style and it's served in a styrofoam tray. There is a spacious indoor seating area with tables and chairs for dining, however. The restroom is totally sketchy, but usable in a pinch. Pro tip: Their menu as posted on Yelp is misleading and inaccurate. You can order chicken biryani, but the vegetarian options change from day to day (there were about 7 different options today). Items posted on the menu may not necessarily be available. Options can be unpredictable, but is always tasty. read more

And I had the paneer tikka masala that was edible but bland. While my stomach generally can tolerate Indian food, this time it didn't. Stopped by for a quick lunch. The service was relatively quick and the line wasn't long. If you're taking your food to go, make sure to check everything before leaving. I ordered roti with my meal and got naan instead which was also followed by an extra charge. Their to-go container is kind of flimsy and leaks into the bag even after being taped shut. Unfortunately the food was not particularly good nor tasty. The other locations have better tasting food. I would recommend going to a different location. There is also Red Chili or Halal Kitchen Cafe which are right next door. They have better tasting and quality food. read more

They have an excellent selection of Indian spices, dry goods, canned goods, beauty products, and a small produce section with staples like curry leaves, onions, potatoes, eggplant, chilies, etc. They also sell lots of freshly-made sweets and entrees. They always have what I need in a pinch, and the staff are friendly and helpful in finding products in the store, and in offering suggestions about what spices go well together. Unfortunately, when I visited for the first time during the Covid-19 crisis, while Los Angeles is still in a mandatory mask-wearing period, the checkout clerk was wearing a bandana on his face that covered only his bottom lip -- his top lip (and wonderful mustache) and nose were totally exposed, making the mask irrelevant. While all other sales associates and patrons were wearing masks, I was upset that the man handling patron's groceries was not wearing a mask, and had no other barrier or shield between himself and customers. I won't be going back until after Covid-19. read more

But one thing that is consistent is how rude and unapproachable the people that work here are, including the owner. Never going back. He left us in the store and took off and scolded us for being there when they opened. If you're not ready for customers, don't open your store. This place is pretty interesting, I went here for lunch and got combo #1. You can pick whatever you want for your combo I wish the staff were more helpful because I had no idea what I was picking. I chose the red sauce and green with the seasoned rice. I also got yogurt with my combo and it was very tasty. I saw they have barfi and other great food which will bring me back another time. Parking was easy to find. The only setback was the fact that I came during the lunch rush and was expecting positive and helpful staff which I was unable to find at the food counter. The man at the front was extremely warm and welcoming which I wish he could teach the other staff as well. I will be back though to try more because it was very delicious!
