Rating based on take out: this spot is phenomenal! We have ordered here multiple times now and it is on our regular rotation. Food is ready quickly 20ish minutes usually on a week night. The sauces are flavorful and authentic. The chicken has been cooked perfectly each time. We got lamb vindaloo ans chicken tikka massage- both spiced at level 7. Both dishes were well cooked, and the CTM was especially good. Neither dish was spicy enough, which I thought was likely based on the reviews, but I wanted to play ot safe. We love spicy, but not TOO spicy. Next time I'll get a 9 (on a scale of 10). One review talked about small portions, which was not the case for us. The rice is individually packaged, and they look small, but it was just the right size for each dish. Their Naan was good. Bottom line: the food was 5 stars, but the service was 3 stars. To be honest, the food was so good, the server could've been outright rude to me, and I'd still come back. The only complaint is that they were a bit slow and very inattentive, but that's not a deterrent for me with food this yummy! I've been to India, and this was some of the best korma I've ever had. Wow, this place has some of the very best Indian Food I have ever eaten in my entire life! It was something of a drive for me to get here, but I am so glad my group opted to make the trek from our hotel downtown. From the minute we walked in we felt welcome and at ease. Everyone is the restaurant, the staff and the other customers, were all warm and friendly and happy to be there. We were seated with a large plate of freshly made crispy crackers that were delicious, intensely flavorful, and very savory. There was also a table service of cilantro and tamarind chutney provided - both were 5 stars! Our appetizers came shortly after. We ordered the pakoras, the fried paneer, and the samosas. The pakoras (vegetable fritters) were my favorite of the three, pretty unusual for me, a big lover of samosas. For dinner we ordered Tikka Makani, Rogan Josh, Spinach Paneer, and the eggplant dish that I do not know how to spell, along with the naan and garlic naan. Our group loved it all, including a woman who had never had Indian food before. I couldn't tell you what my favorite dish was, everything was so excellent! I don't remember the last time I've indulged so much; I could not stop eating! There were 4 of us for dinner that night; we were all starving when we got there, stuffed when we left, and we still had enough leftovers for the next day's lunch. Very Pleased with India Palace The buffet at India Palace is the only one in town and well worth the $14 price! On our visit we were pleased that the ambience, food, décor, cleanliness, and cost were pleasantly aligned. What did I like the most? The tandoori chicken (juicy pieces, and not burned to a crisp), naan (chewy and crispy, not soggy and charred), the rice (fluffy), the assorted curries (I always take a sample of each), the riata (the yogurt sauce is very fresh and flavorful and I pour it over everything, especially on the flavored rice for which it is meant). If you haven't been to India Palace for awhile, give it another try. They also have an Auburn location. In fact, it was the deliciousness (dine in only) of that restaurant with the same name and ownership that prompted me to ask if they were connected to the one in Montgomery (the original opened in 2008 and obviously went through several owners before the current one). The only reason for four stars is the service. They were respectful but not friendly. It felt cold and too much like a business transaction. My table cloth also had some food on the side that they may not had noticed. It was hard to tell if it was recent or old. The food was absolutely amazing. They serve everyone the "chips". Definitely home made. Very crunchy, but melts in the mouth. Served with a spicy mint sauce and another very sweet sauce. The app I ordered was basically fried cheese which was okay. The samosa was amazing. The fried bit was crunchy and soft and the chickpea and pea filling was seasoned perfectly. But the pakora. Heaven. Very crunchy. The onion flavor was amazing. The naan bread was different than I am used to. It was thinner which I really liked. It was crunchy and soft in the thicker parts. Really good. The lamb vindaloo was spicy but not crazy. The spices and sauce were outstanding. The lamb was super tender. It was very good. Definitely recommend. I hope I caught them on a bad day because the food was great. Visiting the area for business and wanted a few Indian flavors verse just one meal. For an Indian Buffet in Montgomery Alabama this place was exactly as expected...far from the best and far from the worst. Not the cleanest of places and had to pick through a few dishes to get a completely clean one, however it was a solid buffet with plenty of choices. All of the bread items were hot and fresh and because of the clientele the vegetarian dishes were also refilled frequently and you could see steam coming off them. On the other hand the meat dishes were warm at best and a little bland, I had high hopes for the chicken tiki marsala and tandoori, but both missed the mark. I was concerned with the temperature of the meat dishes and was worried if I was going to be able to make the 15 min drive to my hotel without having to throw my underwear in the garbage, however no issues at all. All in all, average quality food for a decent price and avoided sh*ting myself so that was a win. read more

Sometimes dives are best spot and the India Palace is no different. The parking lot was pretty deserted when I showed up on a Sunday but India Palace lunch buffet was open. The place is a little dark and dingy but there were other people in the restaurant so I checked it out. I tried almost everything from the lunch buffet and it was good for the price (maybe about $13?) I accidentally ate some spicy pickled vegetables not realizing the intensity so watch out. read more

Update: It really breaks my heart that I have to write this, my before mentioned friend who catered the Indian food for my wedding, told me the quality here had gone down. But I came to see for myself because I've been a few time this year before today. Yes, sometimes the chicken is a little tough or over cooked. But their mango lassi and kheer was always good. Well that ended today. I'm so sad, I ordered my usual mango lassi and water but I knew it was off once they set it on the table. Fake mango lassi always looks electric or neon orange and overly sweet, blocking out the yogurt and cream taste. The kheer was ok, but it used to be almost as good as my friend's. I realized the buffet would be closed due to Covid, so I called to ask what options they had. The nice man on the phone told me that they have a combo which includes rice, bread, 2 entrées, and dessert. I told him I couldn't come pick up my food yet and I would call back after 12 noon. I called back and another man answered the phone. I said I would like to order the combo the other man told me about and that I would like the lamb vindaloo and the chicken tikka masala, and asked if I could substitute mulligatawny soup for the dessert to which he replied "yes". I go to pick up my food and the man tells me "that will be $35.75". I looked at him like he'd lost his mind. I looked in the bag and he had given me 2 full entrées and a bowl of soup. I asked him what the deal was and shrugged his shoulders and said "you don't want?". I am pretty steamed by now and pay the $35.75 and just want to get out of there. I get back to work and realize that he didn't even give me utensils nor a seperate container to eat from. I then started adding up the food- $12.99 for each of the entrées and $3.50 for the soup = $32.43 including tax. Giving 2 stars because the food was decent buy I will never return. read more

Moving from Atlanta, I thought I wouldn't be a able to find another decent Indian restaurant, but I am so happy to say i was wrong. Imagine this: Me, an avid Indian food lover decides to take a chance and take a friend of mine who has never tried Indian food in her life to an Indian restaurant. Said friend is skeptical of Indian food, although their cuisine has been around millenia longer than American cuisine, so they have had time to perfect the combinations of flavors, but she agrees to humor me. And it proceeds to rock her world. When we got to the restaurant at 1930, we were only the 2nd party there. At first, this seemed scary, but I trust my fellow Yelpers, so we marched on. Sitting down, the menus had a plethora of your typical Indian fare with Gobi Manchurian, my fave Indian dish if done correctly. It is fried cauliflower with a delicious sauce. I recommended one of the safe Indian dishes for my friend (Chicken tikka masala or chicken tandoori). The waiter also backed up my recs, and was super patient, answering all our questions. While waiting, we were given chutneys to dip the chip like snack, and upon trying one of the chutneys, I noticed a pleasant level of spice, which was ranked at a zero by our waiter. I decided on the Gobi Manchurian and upon visualizing the first patron's chicken tandoori arrive, my friend decided to go with that order. Based on the fact, the chutney was ranked a zero and still was spicy, we went with a level one for spice. Our food arrived within a reasonable amount of time, but during that time, approximately four other parties arrived. This place was happening! And the service did not suffer whatsoever. Our food arrived, and my Gobi was amazing. Spice level of one was barely discernible. My friend was silent after taking the first few bites of hers, and finally said "wow, I like Indian food." She also did not notice any spice. She even ventured to take a bite of my Gobi, although she said she typically didnt like cauliflower and again had the same reaction. She is officially a convert. Needless to say, great food, excellent service, and this place has lifelong customer. I will definitely bump up the spice on the next visit though. read more
