It was whilst on one of these walks I discovered Reflexion Shisha Lounge. The lounge is extremely well run and the interior is immaculate. A posher version of Rusholme's Shisha cafe offerings is how I'd probably describe it. The Scene Indian kitchen shisha terrace probably gives it a run for its money but I think Reflexion wins out, just! The quality of the shisha is very good and despite it being a tad more expensive, given the waterside views is worthwhile. As well as Shisha they also have an extensive F&B menu although it's diffficult to see anyone venturing here for that alone if you're not into shisha. This place has definately given me more of a reason to explore what this locale has to offer.

So, when at the conclusion of a late dinner (catching up with an old school friend) a few weeks ago the subject of Shisha came up, I didn't need too much convincing, After an unsuccessful venture into Buddha bar around 12:30am when they'd run out of Shishas (odd?) we decided to head to Manchester's Shisha capital (Rusholme) The quality of the various Shisha bars along the Curry Mile has gone up exponentially since the seedy looking haunts that started popping up over a decade ago. It's difficult to miss 360 Lounge as you walk along Wilmslow road past Beirut, the bright green lights along the side wall are impossible to miss. A shisha and coffee came to a reasonable £15 between the three of us and there was plenty to go around. The atmosphere was relaxed and the crowd was pleasent. If Zouk is closed, don't be shy venturing to these parts for Shisha.

Dance off, being £1 entry, sold it for me. Doubles for £3, a range of sambucas £1.50? Messy. Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. Another great Northern Quarter location that needs to become a regular thing for me.

The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.

The door staff are occasionally rude, the bar staff always serve the pretty girl before the bald man, the on floor staff are generally more than abrupt when it comes to throwing you off the balcony (in to the bar, not _off_ the balcony)... At this point you'd be forgiven for thinking that I hate The Sky Lounge. The truth is that if it wasn't for the drinks I honestly would, but the cocktails here are amazing - with the Mojito and French Martini's being amongst the best I've had in Leeds... and probably much further afield than that too. Arrive early, avoid any staff that you don't absolutely have to talk to in order to be served, and be prepared to wait for your drinks to be made... then sit back, relax and enjoy!

Oh my oh my. My budget is suffering now. However, it'll have to struggle a little bit more yet…read morebecause I've just discovered a quite simply stunning and deluxe bar, the Lure Luxe Bar. Now this is grand to the extreme. This mother is one stylish player with decadent furnishings and a sophisticated feel. What's more you get tables that light up, built in ice buckets and a real baby grand piano. To make me even giddier, they do fizz by the glass. Is this place for real? You don't even have to move because a delightful hostess will see to your every need (within reason). The drinks list is awesome too. If money is no object then go for a deluxe Champagne. Or try one of the zillion or so cocktails that will blow you away. If you want aged rums, no problem. Plus, you'll find some of the finest cognacs. James Bond wouldn't look out of place here. The food isn't bad either but I'm singing this little babies praises for some serious drinking action. Make sure the credit card isn't maxed out though; you'll need every penny you can muster. Extreme to every level but marvellous if costly.
