Best place in the Fox Valley for Indian food! We were suggested this establishment by a friend and we were not disappointed. Their menu is pretty extensive for a smaller place. Wonderful prices and large portions! We ordered a few beers and the vegetable samosas to start. It comes with 3 different dipping sauces. I personally loved the red sauce the most, pretty spicy. The samosas had a great crisp outer pastry and were filled to the brim with deliciousness. The green sauce was the most mild, but had a tiny bite to it still. The lamb bhuna was $12.95 and the chicken tikka masala was $11.95. Both come with a heaping portion of white rice. We needed to take about half the meals home, which made a perfect lunch the next day. It kept well and was almost better the next day! You can order dishes mild, medium, or spicy. We got the lamb medium and the chicken spicy, but both tasted pretty tame. Maybe because we had never been and they toned it down ? Not sure, but the flavor of the dishes is deep and hearty. They used to offer a lunch buffet, but it was not setup when we arrived for lunch. Maybe because of covid. There is a shared parking lot as it is located in a strip mall situation. But that means plenty of close parking. There is an Indian grocery store right next to this restaurant if you eat something you love and want to try to recreate it! The place is a little outdated, think carpeted floors, but I think it gives it a charming quality and the restaurant dining room was spotless top to bottom. read more

This was my first time back to India Darbar in eight years. My first time here wasn't that great of an experience and I felt it was time to give this place another try. I'm glad that I did! I ordered the chicken Makhani with basmati rice and Darbar special naan. Everything was delicious! I went with medium Makhani this time; so much more flavor than the mild that I had last time I was here. The chicken and sauce were cooked perfectly! The special naan was also very good; White Bread stuffed with Onions, Potatoes, Cheese and Baked in Tandoor! My experience this time was wonderful! I look forward to returning and trying some of their other dishes! read more

The food here is so flippin good I just had to bump up this star rating. I actually catch myself thinking about the food here on a pretty regular basis and I just can't leave this review at 3 stars. The service the second time was great, everything was brought out really fast, our orders were correct and the food was so good I basically licked my plate clean. A-ma-zing food. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken and Mushroom, and Lamb Vindaloo... with garlic naan and a mango lassi. The flavors were amazing! The chicken was fork tender. The garlic naan was huge; bigger than a dinner plate. Called and order food to go - wish there was online ordering, but not a big deal. The food and service were both good. The naan was definitely some of the better naan that I've had- it was soft, fluffy, and tasted amazing.

So up front I should share two things. 1. I went for indian today to try to drain my sinuses, as I've been battling some drainage issues leading to a sore throat. 2. A server at a different restaurant actually recommended I come here. On to my thoughts: It's a small little place: casual. I came in during buffet hours, picked a plate: then last minute decided to just order from the menu (you can almost never get stuff off the buffet that's very spicy). I ended up ordering my usual meal accompaniment: vegetable samosa and a mango lassi. For an entree I got the Chicken 65 (I realized a unique dish makes it hard to compare a place to competition shortly after ordering). The food: the food was quite good. The samosa was served hot and was as samosa should be. Bonus points for having red/onion chutney (I've had a hard time finding that recently). The entree was quite good as well. I personally would have preferred a little more heat. With only choices of "mild, medium, spicy" I wasn't sure I could handle the full heat. The chicken was quite flavorful, no doubt because it was fried. I believe the entree came with naan (didn't cost extra which is a nice little bonus. The naan seemed to have oil on top though, and the consistency wasn't quite right. Either it didn't bake long enough or they aren't baking their naan (which makes me sad). I did have one major issue come up: when being seated: the server brought a plate (possibly the one I handed him when I changed my mind at the buffet) to put my samosa on. He wiped the pate with his hand, realized his mistake, switched to a napkin to finish wiping it, and then put it in front of me. As someone battling some level of illness I took notice of this. Outside of probably violating health code, I want to remain healthy. My solution?: I ate my samosa off of the appetizer plate, then grabbed a fresh plate from the buffet while he was in the back at some point after I realized that there wasn't an additional plate coming with the course. I went back and forth between 3 and 4 and settled on four because the food was good. Overall not bad, and good prices. There's nothing keeping me from coming back, but there's a place closer to me that I think I like just a little more. read more

On a Sunday night, thirty minutes before closing Darbar made us one of the best Indian dinners we have ever had. We ordered the Darbar combo grill and chicken 65. Trying to our hardest to have our order remain conservative was difficult given the selections, however, being so close to closing we forced ourselves into remaining polite. In preparation for our feast we brought a hot bag for transport. Please forgive there not being any pictures to show, the intoxicating scent convinced us to dine most hastily upon our arrival home. Our food was delicious! Luckily, our dinner orders came with naan bread. Plan to order the stuffed naan next time. My only suggestion would be for takeout orders of the chicken 65... it may travel better if the sauce and chicken were boxed separately from one another to prevent the chicken from getting soggy. read more

Excellent food, excellent service. Atmosphere ok for a strip mall location. I went there a lot for the lunch buffet, but they stopped that when Covid came and I don't know if it ever came back. First time went there. Food was Ok. Service wasn't good. Took almost 1 Hr to get our foods. We were the 2nd customer when it open at 5pm. Server was busy wasn't refilling my water. About 3 group that came in and we were the only customer that dined in. He was rude and turn them away by saying he has a lot of take out orders and they can sit but now sure how long they will get their foods. That was bad service on his part. Visiting family and looking for a good local restaurant. Decided to order some butter chicken, an order of Darbar special naan, garlic naan, and vegetable pokora. I loved the pokora and the naan was delicious. Butter chicken was good , didn't like the sauces as much as my local Indian restaurant. By far the closest thing you can get to non Americanized Indian food in Appleton, with great flavor profiles. A bit sweeter than most other Indian food, but not anywhere near the almost candy like savory dishes found elsewhere in the area. Spice and flavor levels do come on the mild side, so make sure you massively level up if you're used to, or looking for more authentic flavors. Staff is friendly, helpful, available and service is prompt. Not fancy, but focused on the food instead, and an AMAZING value. read more

Okay ... the lamb saag... AMAZING!! Masala Chai - delicious. My wife ate all of her lamb vindaloo ... and she almost never does that. There is such a wide variety of Indian breads that we could come back 4 or 5 more times for that alone. Ask for the fresh mango juice. We will be back!!! read more

This was the best Indian food we have had in the US. It was Mothers Day and the place was busy and they were still able to accommodate my food allergies and prepare a fresh delicious meal. I was hesitant to visit India Darbar due to the mixed Yelp reviews, and I am happy to say I have a new go-to restaurant in Appleton! We arrived about 2pm, and it was empty. During our time there, it filled up, yet the dinning area remained quiet. There was one waiter/manager on staff, and that would be my only complaint. I had to get his attention to get a drink refill, which was annoying, since I went my entire meal with 1 glass of ice tea. Oh, and they serve fresh naan to your table, but eat it slow, because there are no refills. Anyway, I digress. The lunch buffet is only $9 during certain days of the week, and what a deal! Everything I tried was delicious!! They had new-to-me dishes, as well as typical Indian dishes that everyone loves (and recognizes). The dessert offerings were few, but I went for the food, so it didn't matter. Most importantly, everything was hot, all the containers were full, and the atmosphere was comfy. read more

My gosh. This may have been the best Indian food that I have ever had and I've had Indian food worldwide. My husband is a very bland eater yet he fully enjoyed the meal. The restaurant was empty with only one person who was picking up an order. But the owner said that we could sit down (he was wearing a mask, thank you)! He was very prompt to bring out our drinks (husband got a soda I got an hot Indian tea). We were so hungry so we ordered: vegetable samosas, chana masala, shrimp masala, chicken tiki masala, a cheese pakora, pompadon. This all also came with white rice and naan bread. OMG spicy and good and just everything I wished for and more. Thank you I can't wait to be back. I appreciate that the server brought our food out with gloves. There were so many people coming in picking up togo orders so I knew that the food was A1. I can't wait to come back; luckily we have a ton of leftovers which I'm going to scarf down. Food is top notch however the service is extremely slow. Extremely understaffed, owner is the only server and he can't handle takeout orders and dine in at the same time due to 0 serving staff. Plus he has to go inside and plate the food while the one or two chef cooks. Good place I thought. Maybe not the best Indian food I have had but the service was good and the portions were very good for the price. Took a ton of it home. Got a chili garlic chicken appetizer that is sorta chinese tasting but then had the tandoori mix grill which was good. They even bring you out papadoms and chutney along with some rice and curry gravy with the meal. Onion kulcha also very good. Would go here again. read more

Buffet was really bad, I can't even consider it Indian food in the first place, food was cold & stale, palak panner had no panner inside, aloo tikka was for sure was from couple days old, chicken tandoori was stinky, desserts are bad as well. Tasty, but not the best. This place definitely satisfies my craving for Indian Food, but the food itself seems inconsistent. We recently dined during the lunch buffet so that we could try a variety of dishes, but unfortunately, not a single dish blew us out of the water. The staff is extremely friendly here, possibly more so than the other restaurants in the area. With that being said, every time we visit the food can be hit or miss. I'm hoping that dinner might be more successful than the lunch buffet, so we'll be back to try out this theory. I like this place overall, I just wish the food was consistently above average (hence the four stars). read more
