Having read through many of the bad reviews I questioned the decision slightly, but I am extremely pleased we chose India Clay Oven. The service was top notch and better than I have had in years. I believe it was the owner who seated us and gave us waters, took our orders, and took very good care of us. His son, and the chef/cook delivered our food to the table, was all smiles, and was very friendly. Our drinks never got below halfway full and our plates were never empty. Now for the food. If I could take them home with me to cook for me regularly, I would do it in a heartbeat. Every bite was delicious, full of flavor, and some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. Tender, well cooked, and spices that will make you drool. For quite a while we were the only non Indian people in the restaurant but we were treated like family. I even got a hug from the owner before we left. It was a relaxed atmosphere with a touch of class. As my other half stated "the food is the bonus but the staff is the prize". I was excited to try this because of the ratings. When food came out, the first spoonful of rice on my plate had a very long black hair in it. When the replacement rice came out, there was a dead maggot in it. We left the food almost untouched on the table. They would not accommodate us on pricing (I did not ask for free food), and the bill was $42. I gave the cashier $50, and he only gave me $5 back. Between the hair, the maggot, the service, and the waiter shortchanging me, I will never eat here, again! read more

We have now been here 3 times and every time It has been amazing. We have had the cauliflower appetizer, ginger chicken, the chilli chicken, the lamb and chicken biryani, the chicken vindaloo, the butter chicken and the lamb seekh. Along with several types of naan. So as many of you know I love Indian food. Have had it all over the world. Well to my surprise I found this gem on the last night while we were down in Branson/table rock lake. The moment I opened the door I knew it was gonna be amazing! We were instantly greeted with a hello and a friendly smile. We presumed he was the owner. All the staff was attentive and friendly. Went twice in a week. They were very accommodating to our different needs, we had a vegetarian and two vegans and it wasn't a hassle like we have at some places, in fact everyone was friendly. I'm assuming the owner himself was managing the front of the house and he was great. When we come to Branson again, we will hit up Clay oven again! Our favorites were the Bangain Bhirta (eggplant) and mixed veggie curry plus the spinach stuffed roti (I think that was the type of bread? We had such delicious food here. The Palak Paneer was everyone's favorite. There was vegetables in a cashew sauce that we enjoyed. There was a lentil doll that we enjoyed. Karma was our least favorite. There were four pieces of noneso there was enough for a whole table. We vegetarian's really ate it up and we had enough for another meal at home. This was simply fantastic. No wait on a Friday holiday weekend. Super friendly staff, quick service, excellent food. My kids ate absolutely everything, even the picky 2 year old. App sampler: get it! We wanted just samosas but this was better. The 2 yr old ate all the pakora. Chicken tikka masala: so much delicious flavor. Lamb w/ green peppers and onions: killer. Super spicy and so delicious this was my favorite. The lamb was so tender it cuts with a fork and there was zero fatty bits. (Also most menu items have dairy, this one I got because it was DF, can only push those lactaid pills so far!) Naan: get this! The garlic one is best. Really salty and soft. Jasmin rice: perfectly cooked. Gulab Jamun: this was the best gulab I've ever had, it was spongey and not soggy and the syrup actually had rose water in it. Samosas: this was good but my least favorite item, it was entirely potato, no veggies. Sauces: we got extra, we used it on everything!! Best green sauce I've had. Cardamom tea: was excellent! Great flavor not too sweet. I grew up eating Indian food at my best friends house and this was seriously authentic and delicious. 10 members of our family had dinner here the other night. We realized that it's difficult to accommodate such a large group without a reservation. We did try to make a reservation, but we never got a reply back from the restaurant. They were able to accommodate us after a short wait, and we found the food to be really good. The tikka masala sauce was great. I had grilled shrimp with mine and liked it a lot. The owner was charming. We didn't get a couple of chai teas that were ordered, but otherwise everything went quite nicely for the 10 of us who showed up unexpected. First of all, a vegan in Branson is a nightmare, so I was beyond elated to see an Indian restaurant across the street from the hotel. That feeling was premature. They couldn't make a vegan Aloo Saag, and they didn't seem to know what vegan meant. I inquired about their Gobi Manchurian dish. The lady spoke with a manager who assured me that this dish was vegan. Great. That's what I ordered. *sigh* There was no flavor and no spice in the Gobi dish, although it was requested extra spicy. On top of that, the man who rang me out (I assume he was the owner) proceeded to get an attitude with me because I didn't have cash. From the looks of everything I witnessed here, from the menu selection to the lack of flavor and spice, this American-Indian oven is geared toward a particular crowd - the Branson crowd, so do not come here expecting authentic Indian cuisine. Originally went to this restaurant 10+ years ago with my relatives and really enjoyed it. However, I was disappointed when I came back with my wife a few weeks ago. The menu has an extensive selection of different recipes to cater for most tastes. The food is made with authentic ingredients and has great flavor. We came here on our last night in Branson with our friends Melinda C. and Ryan W. Ryan W. had only eaten Indian food in MHK and thought it was bad, so getting him to come was initially challenging. However, upon arrival, we were seated amongst a very crowded restaurant near closing time, a good sign. Eric R., who LOVES Indian food, was feeling yucky so he did not want to order anything. I ordered his favorite, palak paneer, Melinda C. got lamb korma, and Ryan W. got chicken tikka masala. We also got orders of butter naan and spinach paratha. It came with basmati rice servings for each dish. All of it was amazingly tasty, but I was in love with the korma sauce (almond and saffron cream). Been a few years since I've been to Branson. Liked this restaurant last visit so I decided to come back. Fortunately , I had essentially the same experience. Ended up trying out the chicken tikka masala, dal makhani, chicken biryani and chicken tandoori. The chicken tikka masala was great, although the flavor of gravy was a bit more watered down compared to the paneer tikka masala I had a few years ago. The dal makhani and biryani were both delicious and had the right amount of spice in them (not too bland or spicy). The chicken tandoori (pieces of chicken on a hot plate) was okay, although could have had more seasoning to it. As for service, it was great as the food was bought out only about 10-15 minutes after ordering it. Overall, the restaurant was still good and does retain its 4/5 rating! read more

We went to India Clay Oven a few years ago and the food were quite memorable, so we decided to give it a try this time around but doing takeout instead. We ordered our favorite- Chicken Tandoori, it tasted very delicious, the chicken (all drumsticks and thighs) looked very nice, they weren't so red so you know they weren't drown with food coloring. They were tender but not too soft and they seasoned well, not salty like some Indian food. As you can see the photo, it came with tons of onions. Another entree was the Lamb Vindaloo, it came with rice. This is a hot and tangy dish, if you are new to Indian cuisine, I suggest you to start with Chicken Marsala first. Back to Vindaloo, it came with potatoes, they absorbed the sauce which was a great match with the lamb. The downside is that we could have a few more pieces of lamb in the dish. Other than that, it's a pretty well made dish. The sauce still is delicious even reheat after a day or so. We will be back again. read more

I was in town for a Tuesday night on business. I didn't want to go to any of the tourist places and the Yelp reviews were pretty solid so I gave it a chance. You can't get lamb in most places so I was looking forward to a lamb dish. I took my time looking over the menu and asked the server what he recommended. He went straight to the chicken items. I told him I would prefer a lamb dish and he said they were out of lamb. That was disappointing. I went with his recommendation of Chicken Tikki Masala #53. The food came out pretty quickly. The bowl of chicken and rice were both decent size. He also brought out some garlic naan. The chicken was excellent. The sauce was flavorful and the chicken was very tender. I was able to cut every piece of chicken without a knife. The garlic naan was very good. The garlic slivers must go on the dough before the dough goes in the oven. They were not crunchy but they were firm and added good texture. My only issue with the meal was the naan. Not the food but the bill. I'm not sure if the server said it and I missed it, or if he didn't say it but I was charged for the naan. When I went with his recommendation I thought I was getting #53. When the bill came there were 2 items, #53 and garlic naan. It was $3 or $4 so it want a huge deal. I just thought it could have been communicated better. The next time I'm in town, I'd rather come back here than go to one of the tourist traps around town. read more
