Talk about efficient; I'm not exactly sure how they jam-pack all these items into such a small…read morespot, but they do it. This place has most of your Latin American needs in the Niagara region. The clientele here are through and through Latin American, they don't speak a word of English :) Loads of stuff you won't find in your grocery store like: hot empanadas, Cafe Bustelo coffee, Jaritos, Inca Kola, cactus, pozole, hominy, plantains, yucca (not that expired crap they serve in Freshco/No Frills), and Mexican hot chocolate. My only minuses for Los Amigos are: to go tamales need to be heated; no cooked arepas; and no alfajores.

This is an amazing store! My husband who is Mexican, and myself shop here quite often. They have…read moreeverything needed from cooking to treating yourself to latin treats and from many different latin country origins as well. Like Mexican chorizo to Argentinian Mate! Not all clientele that shop here do not speak a word of English as shockingly mentioned in the previous post (as you can miraculously see I do not only speak, read and write in English but seven other languages as well). :D There are other latin shops in St Catharines too but this one is the best and it has the most variety of products. And all the people who work here are super friendly and helpful too. They always say "hola" and welcome us as soon as we walk in.

I used to drop by this plaza often. It would mainly happen after work when I'd be driving home…read more Businesses at this plaza are spread out. The businesses that I frequented the most were Burger King, Mark's, McDonalds, Wok of Asia, and Factory Direct. Ever since I have been working from home during this pandemic, I rarely visit this area. After working from home last Wednesday, I needed to head into Mississauga to run an errand, Driving home, I realized that I needed a grocery store. I remembered Panchvati Supermarket. It was a few doors down from Factory Direct. I had never been there. It was time to check it out. I got there just before 7 pm. There is always plenty of parking. I parked and walked in. I was greeted with bins of Indian snacks. I swear that I stood there, looking at all the brightly coloured snack packages, for a good five minutes. I eventually got a bag of bhel mix snacks. I came here to get a hand of bananas. I normally hit Giant Tiger, as prices are the cheapest around. I got more expensive bananas here that came up to just over $3. I was okay shelling out a bit more than usual. I love checking out any grocery store for the first time. The produce section was cool. It's not every day that you see an entire aisle full of huge bags of onions! I also spent a lot of time looking at packaged noodles. Veggie Hakka noodles. Hong Kong spicy garlic noodles. Noodles without onions or garlic. Lots of noodles! I was impressed. It was neat seeing bottles of Horlicks from the UK. I learned from a friend that Indian folks often spell the brand as Horlics. I asked her why the k is dropped. She simply said to mess with you... haha! The spices section is extensive. I have never been so mesmerized looking at every spice package. It was easier for me to figure out what spices I do have at home. While I was lining up, I looked at the hot samosas, spring rolls, and puffs. A man was getting a number of samosas. They smelled so good! I had a friendly cashier. He was competent and worked quickly. I paid using a debit card. I tapped and was done. He bagged my items and handed me my receipt. I wished him a good night and he reciprocated. I have been driving past this supermarket for years. It was nice that I finally dropped by to check it out. It's quite the gem in this nondescript plaza. I'll definitely come back to dive further into the snacks and noodles. (8)

They have an excellent Basmati rice section and lots of curries, turmeric, masalas for Indian cooking. They also play very good music inside here. Just now I heard two excellent songs: "Koi VI Nahi" by Shirley Setia and Gurnaza And "Chan Kitthan" by Ayushmann & Rochak Kohli Two of my favorite Indian pop stars.

It's funny that just over a decade ago many Asian immigrant families had to plan their grocery…read moretrips weeks in advance or car pool together to travel to the different parts of the city just to get familiar spices and produce from their home countries. Now that the demographics have shifted heavily towards suburban life, many independent supermarkets like India Foodland have sprung up across the GTA catering to the needs of the immigrant population that many large grocery chains simply cannot. India Foodland is one of those places that is never empty. From the moment they open their doors to closing time there is a line up at the cashier. I originally came here because they opened right around the corner from my family home and my parents were delighted that they had access to so many spices and fruits that they ate as kids back in the home country. Since then IFL has grown into a business hub attraction, with multiple small take out restaurants thriving next door thanks to the number of customers IFL brings. IFL itself serves hot food and sweets for take out as well. If you live in the Brampton or Mississauga area, IFL is a must stop shop for all your Indian spices and imported exotic fruits and vegetables. Please don't be discouraged by the long line ups, that is just a sign of how popular they are in the community. Plus their products are significantly cheaper and more affordable than their local big industry competition.
