I had multiple cars smog here. I know my way around a car engine. Most the time no wait, not a pretty shop. But a simple quick smog. If your car is not stock if it's been altered or not running well better to go to a smog and repair shop read more

I went in for a smog and it failed noting "tampered" because the catalytic converter that I replaced after it was stolen didn't show up on his list of approved replacements even though I took it to the same shop 2 years prior and it passed without issue. Also, he connected the OBD2 to the wrong connector(I have 2, I replaced it but left the old one there with no wires attached and never got around to removing it and even told him about it. He didn't want to hear it. I called the BAR referee and he confirmed that the CAT was correct and even sent me an email to bring back to the shop. It passed but he still charged me $69 again noting that he had to charge me so he didn't get in trouble. He didn't take the time to look it up and wouldn't listen to me tell him about the OBD2. I paid $61 to get a fail and $69 to get a pass... ridiculous! I thought he was joking. He made all the mistakes and I had to pay for it. read more

Best place in Manteca, fast and honest. Now I need to go anywhere else this guys great.

I came here by suggestion and boy that was a mistake. I changed my OEM air filter to a K&M one, not really a big deal. Rather than telling me first hey, I can't pass this, he not only charged me, but marked my smog as "Tampered". If you don't know there is 3 classifications. Pass, Fail, Tampered. Tampered is worse than failed. If you get that no other smog shop will attempt to pass you. The guy started arguing with me when I tried to explain to him that. He said I've been doing this 20 years and if you put the original air filter on anyone will pass it. He kept cutting me off when I tried to explain. The California BAR system will see a car as Tampered and if the car then goes to another smog place within 30 days and Passes will be investigated. Because the Cal BAR thinks that if a "legit" place tampered with you how come you went somewhere else and passed, meaning that the new place could be illegally passing you or over looking what ever was "tampered". So because of this smog shops don't want to deal with a car that was previously marked as Tampered. So not only did this guy marked tampered, but he charged me $65. So, I asked if I go get the original air filter and put it back on will you charge me(most places that are nice will not charge you if you bring it back fixed) and he said he will charge me again, but give me a 10% discount. $5 off. Wow. What a joke. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS UNETHICAL HOLE IN THE WALL read more

They charged my dad double the 2nd time after he had failed a car and he claims to have helped him out

This place is absolutely terrible the smog technician failed me saying he couldn't read the numbers in my catalytic converter and had me get under there I was able to read the numbers and read them off to him then he comes back and says he can't accept it if he can't read it he then proceeded to to get angry like it was my fault I started to get upset at that point and he shoved me then threatened to call the police I I'll NEVER go back to this shop again he fails people to get more money on retest go look at google reviews I'm not the only one that had this situation happen read more

I've been going here for smog checks for over 10 years and have found honesty, integrity, and competence to be the hallmarks of the owner. It appears that the negative reviews are from people who are angry and venting because their vehicles didn't pass. I highly recommend this business. read more

do not go here, like everyone is saying in the reviews this guy is a number 1 scammer. i went here because this was the only place open on sunday, little did i know i would be getting a smog check done by a scammer. he intentionally put my air injection system as "tempered" because i replaced my oem air filter few years ago. everywhere i've had no issue getting my smog passed and never had a fail, i go here and he puts a tampered, stay away from him like everyone else is saying, rude and unprofessional just wants your money hope this place shuts down. btw tampered is worse than fail!! read more

This guy is a rip off artist. He will not warn you about possible things before testing. Even when he sees the check engine light and KNOWS thats an automatic fail. He then tests and says OHHHH my. I've been going to Mr. Yoon for at least 10 years. I've never made an appointment, just dropped in. He's usually done in 20 minutes. Quick, honest, and efficient! read more

The owner did a smog check on our pick up truck. He told my husband that it passed and showed him the report. My husband paid for the smog then, he said oh it didn't pass and wrote in handwriting "failed" saying that he could not read the numbers on the c. converter. So he basically lied and wanted him to pay for it then wrote failed on the report. My husband helped him with the numbers and he said he wasn't going to look it back up. He then started yelling and swearing at my husband and threatened to call the police. He was very upset when my husband asked him to call the police and said he would wait for them to arrive since he is ripping people off. He never called of course. The truck passed smog elsewhere and the numbers were able to be read and confirmed. Disputing transaction with bank now. read more

Open 7 days a week and quickly in and out. Guy is quick and curtious so I dont know why the low reviews. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a quick smog check on a Sunday when closer places to you are closed. It's in a weird spot behind a car lot but nothing too hard to find. read more

Will never return to this location ever I have tried multiple smog shops and by far this one was the worst. This is what happens when it's Sunday this clown is the only guy open. I paid full price for smog not a problem but when it didn't pass came the next morning and was charged the same price again. All other shops have free retest except for him stay away waste of an extra 59.99 and 30 minutes. read more

I see that someone else had the same experience. My wife took my car to get smog check and it failed because of a mod that previously had been passed. Told my wife that he would test again "no problem" today took it back and called us liars! HA! I won't give this chump another nickel! read more

Took a 1980 pickup with a v8 engine here for a smog check. He confused the settings for the v8 with a v6 that was also offered that year. And, wouldn't smog check the pickup. Yet, he charged me for looking at it. He didn't speak very good English, so, it was very difficult communicating with him. He had me go home and get the previous smog inspections showing that the pickup had been passing the smog check every two years. He said the places that passed the pickup lied. He didn't know what he talking about. The v8 used a vacuum advance. The v6 didn't. He doesn't know that. And, he insisted that replacing a worn out engine block and heads with exactly the same parts, but new, is modifying an engine. read more

Came in without an appointment at 0845, still took me and even though he had a 0900 appointment, was completed at 0910. Great fast service. WIll have all my smog checks done here. read more

My 2005 Ford Explorer was taken to InShape Smog center on 7/30/2011 for a routine smog check. Technician Kyung Yoon EA141390 aborted the test. He said the traction control test would not work with the AUTO TRAC feature. I was charged $49.95 for this test On 8/3/2011 the vehicle was taken to Manteca Mercury 555 North Main St, Manteca CA 95336 phone 209 239 3561 The vehicle passed smog check with no additional repairs required. An additional $48.50 was paid to Manteca Mercury for the smog check. My complaint is against InShape Smog Center. Mr. Yoon was not competent to provide a smog check on my vehicle. I had to pay for two smog inspections due to Mr. Yoon's lack of competence. I went to his shop on 8/13/2011 with all invoices and paperwork, requesting a refund. He refused. I want a refund of the $49.95 I pad to Mr. Yoon. I did not get the service I paid for. There was nothing wrong with my vehicle. Mr. Yoon did not know how to do his job. He was not competent. A formal complaint has been filed with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. read more

I only come here for smogs! Mr. Yoon is friendly, quick and efficient!

I brought in my 1990 F350 in yesterday it had a major exhaust leak and it wouldn't register on the smog machine and he still charged me $69. According to other smog places he shouldn't had charged me since it wasn't able to be tested. Rip of I only go to Smog Tech now and I will be turning him in to the state. A good smog person would had noticed the leak, He doesn't even do retest for free ripoff! read more

Wish I could give it zero stars. I went to get a quote a few weeks ago, from the moment I parked the owner was staring daggers at me. I eventually went to get a quote and I got nothing but very ill mannered attitude from the overweight guy working there. After dealing with his that and him giving short but loud answers as if lashing at me, seems like he was taking out his frustrations of having a bad day at me for no reason. Anyways, that's no reason to have to put up with that and you shouldn't either. read more

Terrible place. Awful owner. Beware!! My dad has been taking all his vehicles here for some time so when my car was due for a smog I thought I was in good hands. Boy was I wrong. My car initially didn't pass, so I paid for the smog and he said once I fixed it he would retest at a discount and he wouldn't charge me unless it passed. Took it back and it didn't pass because he said I needed to drive it a bit after getting the repairs. He said to drive to Modesto and come back. Then he charged me for an additional smog and said I would have to pay for a third smog upon my return from Modesto. When I complained he basically said I can go somewhere else. So I did and had a wonderful experience at lathrop smog. I highly recommend nick and his highly trained staff for all your smog needs. read more

The owner is a liar and an extortionist. After he try's to tell me my truck that just came from valley ford failed, he stated that he could possibly make it pass for a small fee.
