SPENGA Hilliard: A Masterclass in How Not to Run a Business…read more Dealing with the manager at this location was like watching a bad comedy--except no one was laughing. Her ego could give the Manhattan skyline a run for its money. I left her two messages and stopped by three times with no response. On the fourth attempt, I finally caught her, and honestly, I wish I hadn't. The interaction had all the warmth of an ice storm and about as much grace as me trying to pirouette in steel-toed boots. Let's be clear: her only apparent qualification for managing a yoga/fitness studio is that she happens to own a yoga outfit. That's it. Customer service? Zero. Empathy? Nonexistent. I signed up, attended two classes, then got sick and couldn't go back. Months later, I realized my card was still being charged. I owned up to my mistake and asked if there was anything they could do. Any business with even a shred of customer service sense would've said, "We understand--let's work with you. Stick with us and we'll make it right." Instead, I got the robotic chant: "You signed a contract. You signed a contract." And just when I thought she had secured her place in the Customer Service Hall of Shame, she doubled down: "Oh, and you're responsible for next month's fee too, because we need 30 days' notice to cancel." Seriously? That's not just bad service--it's a business model built on fine print, gotchas, and arrogance. If you're looking for an uplifting, customer-oriented fitness community, look literally anywhere else. SPENGA Hilliard is proof that you can slap on trendy branding and yoga pants, but you can't fake integrity, decency, or professionalism. SPENGA should stand for: Service Poisoned Entirely by Narcissism, Greed, and Arrogance

I went to WiseWays this morning with a friend for an Easy Flow Yoga class. As it was my first time…read morethere, the instructor Julie was extremely helpful in getting my friend and me set up After filling out the necessary paperwork, we went into the yoga room. It's probably one of the coolest yoga spaces I've seen. The room is dimly lit with only natural light, the ceiling has drape-y things hanging from it, there are several woven baskets with mats and yoga props, and there are even bongos situated in the room! It definitely helped set the mood of the class. The teacher took the time to explain the set up and flow of the class to me and my friend. The set up was different for me. The class started with self-massage. I've never experienced that before, and while it was a foreign concept to me, I enjoyed it. During the self-massage, we were given some aromatherapy cream, which was awesome. I love smelling hippy smells like pachouli during yoga. It makes me feel more calm. The class was an hour and 15 minutes - definitely a great value! We went through gentle and modified versions of the sun salutation and many other common yoga poses. I enjoyed the gentle stretch and relaxation to start my weekend. But since I am more experienced in yoga, I wish it were a bit more vigorous. To be fair, though, I need to try the other two types of classes, as the Easy Flow is meant to be...well, easy. The only thing I disliked was that the class was only 3 people large. I enjoy bigger classes because I feed off of the energy of others in the class. I also have a feeling that most folks don't know about this place. If you're not interested in yoga, they also have tai chi classes. I recommend it and will be back!

With a year-long unlimited membership pass, I am pretty familiar with Wiseways/Shift yoga. (They…read morechanged owners and the name to Shift in January '13.) Upside: super friendly staff and fellow yoga lovers. Big enough parking lot and its kind of hidden around the corner. Wonderful, relaxing classes. Downsides: Sort of a small space, so right after they do a Groupon or something it can get grossly crowded for a week or two. Very limited weekend classes: none on Fridays or Sundays, and only one on Saturday at 8:30a. Pretty inconvenient if you have a regular 9-5. Also if you're under 30 you'll be the youngest in the class.

This was my first trip to Yoga on High. A fellow yogi at my home studio posted to our YTT group…read morethat YoH was offering an open, free class this AM. Given that she was going, it was something I was able to go to, and my home studio offered something else at the same time that was not my preference, it was the perfect chance to check out the studio. It's always easier to try something new with a friend - even if you arrive first. Parking was easy once I got there. I use to live in the area so I knew my options. It looks like there are a couple of dedicated spaces behind the building - but there's lots of street parking nearby on the residential side streets. I got there early like they said to - before the instructor opened the building. And I was not alone. Our studio just about always opens 20+ minutes before class. Not so here. No biggie. Still plenty of time to get settled in. The store front area is small with a desk, a couple retail items, and coat hooks and shoe cubbies. The yoga room is HUGE compared to what I'm used to. That being the case, people were able to take their bags and "stuff" with them. I found this nice as I had my phone, car keys, a little $, towel, hair ties and mat towel - all in a little bag. So to have and my water bottle handy was cool. There were plenty of props available - blocks, bolsters and blankets. The only thing I didn't see were straps. ALl the same - plenty for everyone. The set up of the room was good - although the instructor barely demo'd - rather wandering most of the time. I made the mistake of being in the back row and set up against the wall - like the lady next to me. It didn't leave room to stretch arms over my head when lying down. However, it let me do a headstand later - which I still like to have a wall - not do in an open area. There was NO MUSIC. Hatha style maybe? Or instructor's preference? No idea. However, I didn't notice until sivasana. Overall, nice class. Very basic. Not much vinyasa (if at all), but good to return to the basics and try something new.

That was so nice! All I had to do was jump right in the class! The down part to it was after... I asked if they needed anything from me and she said to fill out my info and that was it. It was assumed since it was my first time it was free since she said that was all she needed from me and then told me to have a nice night. I get a phone call 30mins later from them letting me know I didn't pay for my session. And that next time I will need to. No one told me I had to pay and I wouldn't leave without doing so if I had to. Just felt really awkward and annoyed about that. Bad first impression.

I absolutely love this yoga studio tucked right in the heart of Grandview! It's welcoming,…read moredown-to-earth, and has something for everyone--from sweaty, high-energy power flows to deeply relaxing restorative classes. Every instructor I've taken class with has been fantastic, and the membership is super reasonable (plus it gets you access to all ten Go Yoga locations--yes, please!). So happy to be part of such a kind and supportive community.

Dealing with these people is a DISASTER. After first inquiring about membership, I received…read morerepeated phone calls and texts from their office and it felt incredibly pushy. That was a huge red flag and honestly I shouldn't have gone forward with it but I decided to do a $50 intro monthly membership as I was advised they have a money back guarantee and I would not be locked into a renewing membership moving forward as long as I did the 8 classes. You are required to go in person and cancel which again I found pushy but sadly ignored that one too The business has multiple locations in Columbus, but I found getting to them to be a bit of a hassle. The locations I went to didn't have a parking lot so I had to grab street parking each time which caused me to be rather frazzled getting in on time and settling down. I did several classes, they were just okay. The instructors were fine. Because of the aforementioned issues and just lack of satisfaction, I decided to cancel my membership when I went to my final class. Again, I was met with pushback and an attempt to sell me on renewing which I again refused (red flag 3) The next day I was called by ANOTHER person attempting to get me to reconsider my cancellation (red flag 4!) I advised I already stated I wasn't interested, that the working and commute situations weren't good and there's plenty of yoga studios in clintonville I can attend so I will just go there. I THOUGHT that was the end of it. Well today I noticed the charge on my account for another full month of membership for $99 (red flag 5!) at this point I felt like this was a seedy business and made sure to take a picture of my signed cancellation before I left that day. At this point I was absolutely furious. I had completed all my requirements when trying out the studio and found it wanting and so I didn't want to go any longer. I had not pressed to get my original payment back per the agreement but at this point, they aren't even honoring my cancellation and taking time out of my day to argue with them so I asked them to reverse the charge, that I want my original $50 back and I wanted nothing further to do with them. Emerald Dean responds back and because my issues with cancellation stated are logistics and parking and wasn't because I didnt "notice a difference in mind, body and spirit" (no I am not joking) it was not a valid reason to cancel I swear you cannot make this stuff up. Like how am I supposed to notice a positive impact in my mind body and spirit when I told you I hate the driving and parking and I don't want to go there anymore? Red flag 6 if you're still counting. If you made it this far in the review and you still wanna go here, I don't know what else to tell you. Good luck I guess.
