Gary was prompt, courteous, and professional from the first estimate through the completion of the project. He responded to questions about the estimate and final questions before making the decision, and communication is a big thing for us. The team who actually completed the project had all the same positive attributes. Perhaps the most amazing part was that the team stayed on the promised schedule, even with a holiday and the heat being above 110 every day they were working on the project. They showed up on time every day to make sure the project was done. In addition to the heat, there was an issue with the windows being delayed in arriving from the manufacturer. Gary advocated for us to do all he could to get us the windows as quickly as possible (originally they were going to be 3 days late, but after he spoke with the powers that be, he got it bumped down to only 1 day late). One window even got delivered to the wrong place, and he did what he could to track it down and get it to us as soon as he could. We also had to address some electrical tasks during this project, some of which were very much intertwined with the work Gary was doing, and Gary worked well in coordinating with our electrician. Lastly, when the project was essentially done and Gary did the walkthrough, he kept his same work ethic and attention to detail. Throughout the project he was very interested in the big picture of the final project. During the walkthrough, he addressed everything we wanted fixed, no matter how small, and even found some items he added to his list that we did not notice, wanting to make sure nothing was left undone. Their quote was reasonable and included siding and paint. Ivan answered all my questions regarding roof tiles and what would happen if the damage extended beyond the siding. They scheduled the work to start the very next day and Alex and David were on time and friendly. David introduced himself and Alex, and they answered multiple questions I had while they worked. The work itself was top quality. They were careful when removing the old siding to not disturb other parts of the house. They installed the new siding and sealed every joint and nail head before painting. The paint matches perfectly. And they did it all in two days! From the beginning, he was knowledgeable, informative, and took the time to explain the scope of the project and the costs involved. We were getting quotes from several other companies, so California Energy was not automatically going to get the job. What really stood out happened later that evening when Phil, the owner, personally reached out to ask about my experience and make sure my questions had been answered, whether we decided to move forward with his company or not. Coming from an HVAC sales background myself, that immediately impressed me. I have always appreciated working with family-owned businesses, and having the owner personally follow up showed a level of involvement and accountability you do not always see. Phil and I ended up talking for a while, and I mentioned that I was also collecting bids for a complete roof replacement. I had already met with six roofing companies, but after my experience with Mitch and Phil, I figured, why not get one more estimate? Ultimately, we hired California Energy for both the insulation project and the roof replacement. This turned into a very extensive project because we had multiple other projects and contractors working at our home at the same time. California Energy has been extremely accommodating and willing to work around scheduling changes, other trades, and unexpected issues along the way. Jamie has been the project manager throughout this entire process, and I really have to give him credit for keeping everything moving. We are currently waiting for some electrical work to be finished before the new insulation is blown back in. I also have to give a special shout-out to Jose. While working at our home, he identified a pre-existing issue with our HVAC system that could have turned into a very expensive repair down the road. He did not simply point it out and move on. He advocated for us, communicated with our existing HVAC contractor, and helped everyone work together to determine what was actually happening. That process ultimately revealed that the two-year-old HVAC unit installed on our roof was defective. Because Jose was thorough enough to recognize that something was wrong and persistent enough to help get it properly investigated, our HVAC company is now replacing the defective unit. That could have been a completely different situation had he not caught it. Thank you, Jose. With a project this large and this many moving parts, I do not expect everything to go perfectly. What matters to me is how a company responds when something does come up. Whenever I have brought a legitimate concern to California Energy's attention, they have acknowledged it and worked to correct it rather than ignoring it. That says a lot to me. We still have a few minor items for California Energy to finish, along with blowing the new insulation back into the attic once the electrical work is complete. I plan to update this review once everything is officially finished, but based on my experience so far, they have earned an A+ from me. The fact that I can remember so many employees by name, including Mitch, Phil, Jamie, Tony, John, Oscar, and Jose, probably says more than anything else I could write. Each one of them has made enough of an impression that I know exactly who they are and what role they have played throughout this project. However, this review focuses on my experience with interior demo work--specifically, a partial wall demo in our home. Overall, the project was completed as promised, and the results are good. We needed a wall removed to open up our space, and I was told that while WSC mainly advertises as more of an outside/siding work business, they can without a doubt take care of what I needed and was assured the work would be professional and look as if the wall was never there. They went through a lot of dedication to achieve this, despite our discontinued flooring requiring them to pull up and reuse flooring from another area of the home (our primary bedroom). They made sure that area was properly restored, understandably at an additional cost. That said, I feel there was a lack of attention to detail in many aspects of the work. While most issues I raised were eventually addressed, I reached a point where I didn't feel it should be my responsibility to catch and report quality issues. These included: * Poor wall texture in some areas. * Paint that didn't match. * Dings in the wall that were either left as-is or patched sloppily with silicone. * An outlet that does not sit flush against the wall. * A noticeable line on the wall where the paint job was stopped abruptly. I will add that the splotchy paint job on the baseboards was partly due to me providing the wrong paint can when worker B asked for it, as I recall being informed by worker A that it was that can of paint. However, when I eventually called to address my concerns about the mismatched paint, the response I received by worker B was that he is "not a professional painter." I found this response unprofessional, especially considering I was paying for a professional job. It also felt like there was a lack of experience overall given the young age of most of the workers. Even guests have pointed out imperfections, and when I showed the work to a coworker with a background in general contracting, she was appalled by the quality--especially considering this was done by a professional company. I understand that with reno jobs, there is coordination to be done with multiple specialists (demo, drywall, texture, electrical) and they may come from diff companies, but the work performed by these contractors reflects directly on WSC and their standards. Additionally, I was told I would receive a closing form summarizing the warranty for their work via email, but I never received it --even though the job was completed summer of '24, around July or August. On the positive side, the space has improved significantly. The wall is no longer an issue, and the home feels more open and functional. However, the lack of attention to detail left us with several things to fix on our own, despite paying thousands for the project. While WSC seems to excel in siding (as reflected in their reviews), I would recommend looking elsewhere for interior renovation work if attention to detail is important to you.
