TEN STARS! I recently visited Imperial Dermatology and am so thankful I found Dr. Hou! I waited too long to address a skin concern on top of my ear, and to my surprise, I was diagnosed with Basal cell carcinoma... WTF!!!! The front office staff, Marci and Tiffany, were welcoming and transparent about pricing through my insurance. Emily, Lena, and Davina (Medical Staff) provided exceptional support, explaining everything in detail and easing my worries. I'm only 37 and I never thought I would have skin cancer, but they calmed me down. Dr. Hou and her team performed MOHS surgery right in the office just 10 days after my first visit, taking the minimum amount of skin as possible to successfully remove the cancer. They also took care of all the necessary forms and even provided letters to my employer, making the process seamless. When it comes to scary skin stuff, this is the only place I trust! I just can't see how someone can leave a bad review! I received a ton of skin care and sun care swag, and by my second appointment the whole team knew me by name and came in to check on me. BTW they call and confirm your appointment date and time at least twice leading up to any appointment so I don't see how anyone could miss/forget their appointment. Dr. Hou is always professional, thorough, and willing to discuss the problem and procedures to deal with it. I had a bothersome skin condition that broke out every once in a while for over 50 years. I mentioned it to her. She knew exactly the cause and prescribed an ointment that clears it up quickly. For me the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. read more

I called the office and spoke to someone named Marcie. She was incredibly rude and cut me off multiple times when I had simple questions about prescription refills. She was so unhelpful and added to my stress regarding my current rosacea flare up (which is triggered and worsened by emotional distress). She essentially hung up on me at the end. Please retrain your staff on basic respect and people skills. Absolutely unacceptable. I agree with other reviews that said that the office staff need improvement. read more

I don't normally write Yelp reviews but I wanted to disclose how my last few visits went here because the aftermath was nightmarish for me. I had a cyst that ago that flared up for the 2nd time in November 2023 and I went to Dr Zhou to receive attention for the cyst, not the scarring. I let her know my concerns. Admittedly I did not feel she grasped them and she gave me a steroid injection for the swelling. It did go down but only for a week then flared up again. She had mentioned if it did not go away then to go back. I came in December and when I came in she thought I was seeing her for the first time and advised me to get a steroid injection. I had to explain to her she had already given me a steroid injection. She said I should receive another one. After the 2nd injection it left a major indentation where it was administered leaving an unsight hollow spot on my jaw line. It looked terrible. have since learned this occurs when the steroid injection is too strong and causes fat loss. Also, I spent $500 for the 2 visits payments and the 2 steroid injections since the Dr was not in my network at the time and I left worse than I came in. The doctor told me this was due the scarring of the cyst. But since this isn't the first time it flared up and I had no indentation prior, I knew this was not true. I have seen several derms since and they have confirmed it was fat loss from an aggressive dose. I did have a follow up with the Dr in Jan 2024 for the indentation and was only suggested procedures like micro needling and subcision to help manage the scarring. I was surprised she did not take accountability for the fat loss from the concentrated steroid and blamed it on my skin scarring instead. I believe this could have been avoided if the doctor took more time to choose a treatment with better long term results rather than try to slap a bandaid on my issue at the time. As a result of my emotional distress dealing with an unnatural hollow hole in my jaw line and how expensive it all way, I wish I had never came in and would not recommend this office to anyone. read more

If you have Tricare Select, I would not recommend this office. I found this provider through Tricare, which directed me to contact their office directly. Under Tricare Select, referrals or prior authorizations are not required to see most specialists, including dermatologists. Despite this, the office informed me that without a referral I would need to self-pay, which is against Tricare billing rules for in-network providers. This was disappointing, as the reviews initially made me hopeful I had found a quality provider. Unfortunately, due to their lack of knowledge in billing insurance, I would recommend saving your time and looking elsewhere. read more

AMAZING- Best word to describe Dr. Hou and her team. We actually live in Hawaii and fly to do all of our dermatology work at this facility. Here is why. 1) Cleanliness: Dr. Hou's clinic is so clean and professional. From the lobby, to the back offices to their bathroom. Top notch! 2) Ease of appointments: They really go over and beyond to try and see you as a client. Even if that means a last minute appointment, they will do everything within their power to fit you in. 3) Staff: LOVE the staff. All of the ladies we have dealt with are just the best. 4) Dr. Hou. What can I say, we just love her. My boyfriend and I go to get big moles, skin tags and ugly brown spots removed from our skin. She is so kind and just gets to work on us right away. My appointment was scheduled for 9/18, but when I arrived, the front desk told me it had been on 9/17, which is simply NOT true. I was then offered a new date of 12/29, more than three months away. If I were able to wait that long, I likely wouldn't need to see a doctor in the first place. For the record, I did not reschedule my appointment, and I will not be returning to your office. If I had to use one word to describe my experience at Imperial Dermatology, it would be "FABULOUS"! I was looking to get a mole removed (for cosmetic purposes), I called to set up an appointment & they were upfront with the cost of everything (which still reflected the day of, no hidden fees). I showed up to my appointment thinking I was going to only get it checked out and I'd have to reschedule but Dr. Hou knocked it out day of! Went here for 1st time, since my last derm moved away (to be truthful I was going to this same derm for years and her wait time was 50mins- to over an hour which is unacceptable) and was in need of great derm for my husband and myself. Yearly body checkups (had mine today)) and other things that come up throughout the year. Had some other recommendations from people to call this office or that office- and I did and all said 1st opening October. That's crazy!! I was driving by on Imperial and noticed Imperial Derm. So I sent an email in that Sunday- and wowza, got a call the next day. Everyone at front desk SO welcoming and seemed genuinely kind Then I met Dr. Hou and she's adorable, very friendly, incredibly educated, great listener(which so many Dr's are not) and did a really thorough body exam. She answered my questions, didn't make me feel terrible or guilty bc I do spend most days outdoors in sun-my whole life, did not seem in a rush (but had full waiting room but everything was running so on schedule!) Really haven't been this happy going into a Dr's office in very long time... I can't recommend this place enough. I've been an ultrasound technologist since 1982, with 38 of those years working in hospitals. It's easy to tell when a physician is skilled and confident, right away, when you are surrounded by them all day long. Dr Hou, is kind and well spoken and just having a conversation with her made me realize how good she is in her career. She examined me and with the exception of a few areas on my face, said everything looked great. The areas she did treat, were areas that pop up now and again, but are easily treated. Look at her Bio, you can see how intelligent she is and how she can handle even the most complex cases... as somebody with 43 years experience in the medical field and a wife who's been a cancer nurse at St Judes for 32 years, we can go anywhere for care: Hoag, City of hope, UCLA and Keck, but I chose her, based on her outstanding qualifications and personality.... I needed some minor procedures done and my regular dermatologist had a month long wait to get appointment. I decided to try another Dr here in Brea and I was able to get appointment for the following week. I was very impressed with the professionalism shown by Dr Hao and her entire staff, from the receptionist to the medical assistants to the billing consultant. Dr Hao had a wonderful, caring attitude and answered my very long list of questions without rushing me. Her entire office including treatment areas are exceptionally clean and inviting. I had a cyst on my face that started growing around January, I am so glad I found this place. Without insurance the prices are fair and amazing doctor. Initially thought this was a great place where everyone was nice and pleasant. I had some previous concerns and issues from another dermatologist who prescribed medication with a black box warning - of which I had a very bad reaction to. I was very straight up about this and extremely hesitant to go the route of medication again. We tried Doxycycline, but she wasn't happy with it. Dr. Hou then put me on Humira injections. Again I was hesitant of what I've taken before. She made no mention of this medication having a black box warning as well. Stupid me I trusted. I made Dr. Hou aware that I did not feel right when taking it. She assured me there was nothing to it. I was still feeling like something was off so I made the decision to stop. Long story short I have been seeing a neurologist as I can barely walk and have been home-bound for the last 3yrs and diagnosed with MS. I have spinal lesions caused by what I was prescribed according to the neuro. Why on earth would a Dr. who knows you've had issues with medication with a black box warning, prescribe you yet another one with the same type of warning!! Pure negligence. Way more education is needed before writing a script. I am not a guinea pig for research. Please don't comment to call and address the situation like you responded on Google. Horrible service - didn't tell me the amount I owe before the they set me in the room. I needed a biopsy to make sure nothing to worry about and for the doc to see the skin (not touch not do anything) and not do anything about it calling me another day for the procedure and charged me $50 for 5 min of nothing. And also quoted approx cost for the procedure etc. I had called their office 3 times to check if they are in network and yes they were part of the network so I made an appointment to go there (bad idea to trust them). The doc was too busy to check other patients and didn't want to clear any of my questions and just walked into another room saying it's up-to you. Hate to say that some doctors aren't part of a noble profession but to loot money. Double Triple check before you go here to see Dr Jessie Hou. Also filing a complaint with the medical board of California so they know - just getting a degree isn't enough, when ethics aren't followed. read more

Highly recommend Imperial Dermatology!! Half of my face was swollen, my face was hurting, and my eyes were irritated due to the swelling. I called about 20+ dermatology clinics this morning. All the other clinics I called did not even want to take 1 minute to help or listen to my symptoms, except appointments are a few months out. Then I called Imperial Dermatology, I spoke with Sheila on the phone. She is super professional, friendly, and patient. Even though they are busy like other clinics, she put me on a wait list for any spot available and even comforted me that usually there are customers that reschedule and told me not to worry. Good news came 10 minutes later! The clinic is very modern and clean. All the staff are friendly. Dr.Hou is super professional and friendly as well. She knows what she's talking about and is super comforting! I live about 45 mins away, and I will definitely be coming back and will refer all my friends and family! I had such a great experience here! For as long as I can remember, I've had a large mole on my left ear/tragus. A family doctor once told me to keep an eye out on it and it never changed (to my knowledge) or caused any problems but I recently came across a video of a girl who was diagnosed with melanoma from a mole she had her whole life and felt like I needed to get mine checked. I messaged them on Yelp to see if this was a service they would be able to provide and they said responded very quickly with a yes. I made an appointment request on their website and someone called shortly after to confirm my details. I work M-F 9-5 so I was very happy that they have weekend appointments! There was virtually no wait once I arrived Saturday morning and checking in was easy via iPad. The place is super clean and really cute and modern. Everyone was so nice, from the receptionist to the medical assistant to Dr. Hou herself. Dr. Hou is super easy to talk to and made me feel so comfortable when discussing my procedure. She removed my mole to send in for a biopsy and the whole thing took just a few minutes and was completely painless. She is medically competent but you have to beware of her financial motivtions. She is dishonest and directs you to more expensive options most likely due to financial incentives she has pre-arranged with other entities. For example, she prescribed me clobetasol solution and suggested I get the prescription filled from a pharmacy she recommended because supposedly medicare does not cover this particular drug and this particular pharmacy offers the drug at the lowest price she knows of. However that was false and medicare does cover this medication and besides that i found i could get it cheaper at almost any other common retail pharmacy out of pocket compared to the pharmacy she steered me towards. I was being treated by another doctor for a skin condition and wasn't getting very good results. I went to see Dr. Hou and she was able to quickly and accurately diagnose my condition and start treatment. Turns out I was misdiagnosed and the new treatment she recommended improved my condition very quickly and with better results than I had hoped for! Originally 5 star review as I was very happy with the Dr and staff during my first visit December 2021,and had planned on going back for other procedures such as IPL and laser. Now March 1, 2022, 3 months later, I received a separate bill from a different lab. I thought this was odd, I contacted their office, thinking it was a mistake the lab billed me instead of their own office. Their office response: This notice was mentioned in our "billing policy and consent forms, and even in your after care instructions" you received. Really in my after care instructions?! OK BUT never once was this verbally mentioned, not by Dr. or staff when discussing the cost of procedure. Nor did I receive physical after care instructions,consent forms or their claimed billing policy. It's not a big deal, I will pay the lab, but it's a bit unprofessional to not mention this upfront. On Friday Aug 23 was my first time being a client. I was expecting more care because it was my first time. As soon as I walked in the front girls were nice and welcoming and it was very clean as well. So the front asked me for my ID and My insurance card and of course I'm expecting a copay. So I fill out my info on the iPad and then as soon as I finish I give it back. The weird thing is the front girl she didn't tell me what was my copay all she said was "you will be called in soon." And I'm waiting I get called in the nurse asks what's my issue for today and I told her. Then the doctor comes in, she was nice and all. She did give me what I wanted. But what was off because the reason why I went to this office is to remove my birthmark which is insecure for me and she said no we shouldn't do that it's something you're born with and I kinda wasn't there to get talked to, I'm just asking you if possible for removal which I thought was weird. So I ended up being with this doctor for 2 mins as soon as I got to the front to get my ID and Insurance card... the front girl tells me $173????? For a copay and LET ME SAY I wish I was a doctor so I can be with a patient for 5 mins.... Wow I mean I applaud you going to school and studying but for you to charge me that much... that is RIDICULOUS. So I told the front girl my copay is $10 and she said "ohh no that's what the insurance covers" something like that and I said why didn't you tell me from the beginning which is true.. why didn't you tell me before I get seen. So everyone that's going to see her make sure you know what's your copay and I'm not here to fight so I just gave the front girl my card and I said I'm not going to argue but lesson learned If im going to a doctors office I better check because this is such a scam. I worked very hard for $173 for you to give me 5 mins of your time. As soon as I left I called my insurance, the agent was even with me and said why would they charge you that much and I mentioned to the insurance agent literally an office visit, and the insurance agent said yes you had a $10 copay. Thank god I got a refund. But just wanted my Input.... I don't think I'll go back after what happened. read more
