This is an amazing place. I started from intro classes when I was 40 and two years later I can…read moresometimes take intermediate classes. Every teacher I had was wonderful. I saw Shirley Bassat name mentioned in some negative reviews - I love her! It took a while to get used to her style, but she actually corrects your position, and is warm and caring behind a strict surface. If you have some tolerance of being called out in front of a class, you can make so much progress with her. I also want to mention Vanessa's Pilates classes during the weekend. I've been to many Pilates before, but her class is ADDICTIVE. She tailors the class to everyone there, and remembers everyone's strength, weakness, and goals. She uses different props for each student to make sure even the same move will be most effective for each person on their fitness/ dance journey. She also has a great sense of humor to make challenging classes pass by quickly. The classes are packed and somehow everyone gets individual attention and enough space/ room to practice comfortably.

This was a spur-of-the-moment activity, but a friend of mine wanted to try a ballet class to see if…read moreshe might get back into dance as a hobby. Another friend had taken classes at this academy before and highly recommended it, so the three of us booked an Introduction to Ballet class on Sunday at 12:00. Check-in was quick and easy. The class was $25 for an hour and a half, which I think is very reasonable considering it's from an actual ballet school. There's no strict dress code, which worked out well since none of us owned ballet attire -- we just wore regular workout clothes and socks, and it was perfectly fine. The instructor was wonderful. She started by asking who had never taken ballet before, then positioned the newer students between people with experience so it would be easier to follow along. I really appreciated that, as I have no dance background and definitely found myself lost more than once. Having people around me to follow made it much less intimidating. The class itself was energetic and fun. The instructor was patient, encouraging, and made sure to keep things approachable for beginners. I'm sure my form was atrocious and I messed up plenty of times, but nobody cared -- the atmosphere was supportive and welcoming, and everyone was just there to enjoy themselves and keep trying. The class had people of all different skill levels and abilities, and it felt very inclusive. Overall, this was a great introduction class, especially for someone nervous about trying something new. I never once felt self-conscious, and I genuinely had fun. I'd highly recommend this academy to anyone looking to take dance classes, whether you have experience or not. If I were interested in pursuing ballet, I would definitely come back.

The studio is spacious, the changing room and showers are clean, and the front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. You register for classes through the MindBody app and have the option of taking an in person class or joining online. Located on the first floor is a kiosk that sells beverages and snacks with a small sitting area so you can grab something and relax. It's a great place to come and get your dance fix. The front desk staff weren't very welcoming either. I arrived early and just had a simple question, but was met with blank stares and a vibe like I was bothering them. The studio itself wasn't ideal for focus or rehearsal. You could hear everything happening in the adjacent studios!! There was no sound insulation whatsoever. so it was hard to stay in the zone during class. Overall, the energy felt off, and I definitely wouldn't book this space for my own classes or come back to rehearse.

My daughter has been a student of Joffrey Ballet School for three years and she loves it! The…read moreteachers, especially Miss Jazmine and Miss Hayley, are caring and encouraging -- my daughter is learning to be not just a great dancer, but a strong, confident girl. Young dancers are given the opportunity to take the stage with the older students and members of the dance company for the annual performances of The Nutcracker and Alice in Wonderland. The experience of learning to perform is invaluable. If I had any complaints at all, it's that the performances are held all the way out in Queens which is a challenge to get to during the week of recitals leading up to the performance. My other gripe is that the staff at the performance location do not allow photographs to be taken. Not Joffrey's fault, but I do wish they chose a closer location with friendlier staff. All in all, a great dance company and I'm glad I'm able to send my daughter here to learn from the best.

Immediately I knew this was a very serious class. In the beginner level here, they expect you to understand every basic position and movement. The way they design the classes is very confusing if you are new to the studio. I should have been in the absolute beginner ballet class but they rarely offer this class month to month. There is also basic beginner which is a level above absolute beginner and level below beginner. See what I mean? why are we call the classes such similar names. Yes they include descriptions, but I feel anyone new to the studio would be confused. I could tell since a lot of people in my class did feel out of place and under trained! Will I come back? I wanted to, but like I said, they rarely offer the absolute beginner and after my class with Stephanie I lost my confidence to jump into it after so many years off.
