The building was originally constructed as a generic office building but Studio 515 has created a very modern commercial studio out of the space with a large main tracking room, isolation rooms, a huge control room. The layout of the space is really open, and airy. The rooms are all connected in line, so each person can see everyone they are tracking with. The space is really kind of an open slate as far as vibe goes. But that can be a good thing, so, that when you walk in you can bring your own energy into the room. They just recently updated their entire studio to Pro Tools HD, so now they are on par with all the top studios as far a tracking capabilities. They have a lot of sound samples on their website, so you can get an idea of what they kind of sounds they can get out of their space and equipment. I had a good talk with Tim Grogan, the owner, when I looked through their studio. They are really adaptable as a studio. They work on projects ranging from totally independent sessions to label sessions. Their day rates are cheaper than some other studios in town, but Studio 515 has all the capabilities to give you just as good a recording. So, what they lack in vibe, they make up for by their better price structure.

The building was originally built by Al Capone, yes the Al Capone, sometime in the 1920's. It was briefly used as a gambling casino, and later a private residence. Now it is a recording facility that hosts all kinds of famous musicians, and local musicians that can get in some time between major label sessions. The Castle has a Studio A and Studio B, and depending on your project budget you can rent each one by the hour, by the day, or by the project. Studio A includes the main tracking room and more fancy engineering room. The main tracking room is just gorgeous, with white sound proofing panels, blonde wooden floors, and natural sunlight streaming in the south facing windows. I had the good fortune to be in here for a day doing some tracking, and it was really a great experience. They have a full kitchen so you don't even have to leave for coffee or food. It's like recording in an awesome house. Everything sounds amazing. Later when the sun was setting we were out back and about 15 deer ran through the backyard. It was just too cool. Wildlife and rock music, like a fairy tale. If you can get the budget, get yourself over to the Castle for some tracking.

We came to Jamie Tate from the Pocono Northeast area of Pennsylvania because of his reputation for excellence. Jamie and his staff have been professional, patient and kind beyond what we expected. His technical knowledge is exceptional and the studio itself is amazing. It is a stand alone structure built like a sound proof bunker-not a renovated building originally designed for another purpose. Joe Nino Hernes, the studio manager, has been very forthcoming about expenses and what was needed before the recording session, and has been very communicative about what to expect post project. Lexi Lew, along with being a fantastic performer herself, has been a great source of support during this process as well. We were really lucky to learn about The Rukkus Room.
