It's owned and run by Jeremy Ferguson and Tony Read, and it's home to some really impressive equipment. Ferguson has been working as a producer and engineer for several years now, and he has his mixing down to a science. He and his people are willing to work with bands who have had very little exposure, and his albums always turn out well. The East Side Performing Artist's Co-op is a cool vibey rehearsal space located at the Five Points…read morein East Nashville. This room is really a great space. The room is really large, it is about a 28 ft x 50 ft space, with a 20 ft x 20 ft stage area. The room is painted all different colors, which you would think would be distracting but it actually works for the room, and acts as fuel for your brain by making it more active. The stage is framed by big drapes around the back in golds and greens. These are all good feng shui colors and textures for a creative space. That is probably why I like the space so much, everything about seems to work really well to create a great feeling within the space. The other great thing about this room that sets it apart from a lot of other rehearsal spaces in town, is that it isn't built like a bomb shelter, this room has real windows to the outside world! You can see daylight, or whatever weather might be happening outside. They have a full stage PA, it is 3000 watts of power with a full sound board for running up to 24 channels. It is a great place to really hone in your on stage sound. The rates for the room vary depending on what kind of event or rehearsal you want to have. I slap on EQ and multi-band compression plug-ins and then hear what it sounds like on radio and TV - for better or worse. But I just did an album of my own stuff and had no idea how to prepare it for streaming, downloading, CD, vinyl. My fantastic mix engineer strongly recommended Piper because "she's been doing it forever and knows how to do it right". She does. She's worked with the best, globally. It's impressive. I talked to her and explained what kind of albums I wanted mine to sound like and she asked all the right questions. She's definitely more pricey than the online AI mastering options, but I really wanted this done right. So I rolled the dice, and won! The songs are just...better. 10% clearer, louder, easier to listen to. And Piper spent a generous amount of time with me along the way. Great experience!

Having my album mastered at Neato Mastering was an exceptional experience in every way. Piper is…read morethe real deal. She works quickly and precisely and every mix she gets her hands/ears on sounds better after she's done. Piper seems to me to be genuinely interested in making sure that the artist/client is 100% (not 99.9) satisfied down to the last detail. She strikes a great balance between allowing her own considerable expertise and decision making to positively impact each track, while also being open to suggestions and tinkering if the artist/client wishes. Piper's ability to find the aesthetic flow of a project and impose her immense technical mastery on to it made a big impression on me. I felt like each of my tracks retained their feel and character and texture, but were just cleaner, clearer, better versions of themselves. Piper's mastering work is like being at the optometrist choosing between "A or B", "A" is good, but you can see every detail of that bottom row of letters with "B". Also, I have to say that just even hearing my music through her incredible reference system was well worth the price of admission. Her setup is incredible--the best sound I've ever heard by far. On top of all this, Piper is just a rad human being and was super fun to work with. I cannot more enthusiastically recommend A) investing the $ to get your tracks mastered in the first place; and B) hiring Piper and the rest of the crew at Neato Mastering to do the work. It is, without question, money well spent.

Studio 515 is a modern day, state of the art recording studio. They have everything you need to…read morerecord your next project. The building was originally constructed as a generic office building but Studio 515 has created a very modern commercial studio out of the space with a large main tracking room, isolation rooms, a huge control room. The layout of the space is really open, and airy. The rooms are all connected in line, so each person can see everyone they are tracking with. The space is really kind of an open slate as far as vibe goes. But that can be a good thing, so, that when you walk in you can bring your own energy into the room. They just recently updated their entire studio to Pro Tools HD, so now they are on par with all the top studios as far a tracking capabilities. They have a lot of sound samples on their website, so you can get an idea of what they kind of sounds they can get out of their space and equipment. I had a good talk with Tim Grogan, the owner, when I looked through their studio. They are really adaptable as a studio. They work on projects ranging from totally independent sessions to label sessions. Their day rates are cheaper than some other studios in town, but Studio 515 has all the capabilities to give you just as good a recording. So, what they lack in vibe, they make up for by their better price structure.

They get the job done and have professional, radio ready songs completed in a very reasonable time 1-2 weeks but usually about a week. I wish I could get the sound they do in my home studio but I can't. So that's why I pay them the big bucks and they earn it. First class people!
