Wow, this place is a huge relief for me. I had been the recipient of terrible hair cuts at a big chain place in Pacifica far too many times. It's hard to find someone you like and can trust to cut your hair. After getting a haircut at the big chain place that made it look like I'd enlisted in the military, I had enough. It's worth it to pay a little more to go to Illusions. What a great place. I walked in and was greeted in a friendly manner. I had to wait a little bit because there was only one stylist there and she was working on someone else, but someone else came in and it was my turn. Clara is amazing. She listened to what I wanted. She took her time. She asked me along the way if what she was doing was what I wanted. I had a photo with me of the cut I kept trying to get at the big chain place. So if you have had the experience I have - BAD CUTS for under $20 - you won't feel that way in Clara's hands. She's amazing. I left the shop so happy, I was almost skipping. I love this place. The owners are constantly updating and improving the atmosphere. Last week they did a facelift in the cutting stations, replacing the 20 year old stations with a gorgeous natural edge slab. Wow!!! It's just stunning. This is my third visit here and I cant tell you how happy I have been with the service and of course the best haircuts in Pacifica. I have lived here for the last 35 years and have tried every place in town and will never go anywhere else. The barbers here are the very best I cant brag about them more, thats why I want to let everyone know how amazing they are. My teenager is so picky and he gets the perfect cut here every time no matter what. They have tons of pictures on the wall and they always talk to you first before starting to do the work. I had been so tired of bad haircuts that I almost gave up. Came in last week or so to get a simple haircut, told the barber what I would like, asked for a number one on the side but at the end felt like a number 2, went home and my gf asked if I even got a hair cut. Nice guy, cool to talk to , but I wish he would focus more on the haircut, nothing wrong with being chatty but at least ask more questions on my hair cut and inbetween pauses ask me how he's doing so far, instead of telling me asian hairs are challenging to cut. Found this barber shop on yelp, and decided to give it a shot. One gentleman was having his hair cut, but I was willing to wait a little for a cut. Didn't wait longer than 10 minutes and was greeted kindly, and he listened to what I was looking for. Gave me his feedback, which I appreciated and he gave me a great cut. My hair was a bit long to start, but I only get a few a year so I was looking for a fairly short cut, but the priority on a clean cut that was low maintenance, and could be styled if I wanted to play it up a bit. I was beyond happy, as was my girlfriend. I will absolutely be coming back, and would recommend any guy who wants a true gentleman's hair cut to come here. read more

I've been going here for 15 years. Melba did GREAT work. When she retired I switched to Tina, who is careful, artistic and fun. But this place seems to be dying slowly due to need of a professional manager. It's almost impossible to get an appointment; phone calls aren't returned, yet six chairs inside this upscale shop... and usually only one stylist working? Today when I opened the door the place smelled like bitter, rank, old cigar smoke that's absorbed into the paint and furniture (and also smelled of pot?). Stopped in as a walk-in here this week and was very pleased with the haircut I received(: You just never know what you might get when you jump around from shop to shop but I have to say this folks are pros at what they do. They ask a lot of questions and check in with you in between to make  sure the haircut is just right. How often does that happen? In my experience not many, they are very detail oriented which is what you want when you go to a barber shop. I stopped going into the chain salons due to the fact that they can care less about your hair. They just want to zip you out the door and move on the next one, they get paid hourly so what do they care. You can tell this place is tucked away so they rely on repeat business or else they would have zero customers. Next week I will be back with my kids to make sure they come to the best shop in town. read more

I've had the pleasure of getting my haircut by Clara 3-times now and each time she has done a wonderful job. She's also had the (dis)pleasure of cutting of cutting my 2-year-old's lovely locks and was very patient, calm and took her time to get the job done; which is no easy task, believe you me! Unfortunately the last time we went in to get our father-son haircut thing done there was another lady (whose name I didn't get) there and I thought it would save time if we both got ours done at the same time. As Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, "Big Mistake"; she butchered his hair pretty bad. To be fair, though, he does kerfuffle quite a bit, and I'm sure she was just trying to be fast. Not a bad technique if you're storming Normandy. Not so much when cutting hair. Oh, well.. Live and learn I guess. It's only hair and will grow back. I moved to Pacifica about 2 years ago. My barber Jim in SF was having nerve problems and going through a series of surgeries right around the same time. I gave several of barbers in Pacifica a chance to cut my hair, the way Jim used to for the past 15 years, but no one could get it right. My first experience here wasn't good I came in and Lawrence took me in and I told him what I wanted for my haircut and all was good until he started cutting and I forgot to mention that I wanted something particular on the sides of my hair so I mentioned it and he said "are we still talking about the sides" I laughed thinking he was joking and he said " no I'm serious I already have your haircut envisioned" shouldn't it be my vision since I'm paying for the haircut? Any ways so today I come in and I have a appointment with Lawrence again and I'm on time for my appointment and he's not there so the lady working there said jokingly "hopefully he shows up in 5 min" I'm just like so this is common ? Then she says in a joking way "your the customer you need to tell him you need a haircut" it was just off putting, so lawrence calls and tells the lady he'll be here in 20 min so I just left and got a haircut somewhere else. I decided that on the morning of my wedding day I really wanted to have a straight razor shave with my groomsmen. I looked around for places nearby the event location and found Illusions. The shop is really cool and has loads of vintage barber related stuff. They also have reasonable prices on shaving supplies. They worked with me to make sure that all my needs were met and that I was happy with the results. My groomsmen and I had a wonderful experience here and they even allowed the videographer to film in the shop. I would highly recommend them and plan to visit again the next time I am in the area. read more

I have spent the better part of 3 months here in California trying to find the one that really hits the nail on the head so to speak. Booking an appointment was fast and easy, three easy steps for the customer provide a phone number, name, and desired time and that's all it takes. When you arrive your greeted right away I was even offered a beer on the house because I was a bit early to my appointment, talk about hospitality, and this is coming from a gentleman that works for the Ritz-Carlton if I could have poached these wonderful people oriented and talented employees I would in a second! Absolutely go here, send your friends here, send your cousins here. Walk ins are welcome, cash and card are accepted! And you can even purchase some rather upscale men's grooming products in the store, comfortable atmosphere, great people, and the end result is one perfect haircut done promptly and it won't cost you an arm and a leg, although I'd happily pay that price if that's what it took! read more

Got a message that they now offer the hot lather shave six days a week just in time for my husband's birthday. He's never had that done before and he loved it. I am in the Military and I went to Great Clips in Linda Mar and asked for a low fade. I received a line across the middle of my head with no fade at all. My friend recommended Illusions to me.
