Bud Gardens is clearly the heart and meeting place of the city. Between Knights games. Lightning, concerts and other special events rarely a week goes by that I don't end up here. It's a solid venue and the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. the food and beers may be a bit on the pricey side but what do you expect at an event venue. While it may likely always be the JLC to me - this Buds for you. Well ... for all of us.

My boyfriend and I came here to attend a London Majors vs. Barrie Baycats game. The park was a bit…read moretricky to get to in the downtown area and parking on the narrow streets was even trickier. The day we arrived, it was overcast and a bit rainy but we were happy there was a large covered seating area where we could take shelter when it started raining. Most of the seats had a good view of the field. The entry and exit was easy to get to. One point of interest was a huge nest on top of the lights where a bird kept bringing food back and forth to its nest. During the game there was fun activities where kids could run the bases and also some giveaways from a Domino's pizza mascot. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Labatt Park is considered Canada's and arguably the world's oldest continuously operating baseball…read morepark. It is an absolute gem and located right at the forks of the Thames. I actually grew up in the area and have spent countless nights watching the London Majors play baseball - which is a lot of fun and surprisingly affordable. They also host free movie nights and other special events from time to time. The field is maintained in pristine condition by the City of London, as a tribute to players past and present; a true community treasure. The park is used constantly and for the past 134 years has been the home of minor, senior and professional baseball and is still home to the London Majors. If you've never been to a game - go. Admission is like seven dollars and you can get a beer for five or six bucks and a hot dog for a few more. My boys and I go to at least a few games each season and I hope to increase that number dramatically this year. A fun and affordable night out for the entire family and just a wonderful setting. The blue rink of the dual pad facility features a ode to panelling press box which looks like it was built in the early 70s: the rest of the building feels like it han't gotten much care since then. Wires hang instead of being run through the walls; holes, from where errant pucks have landed, have gone unrepaired for years; banners limply hang sometimes from only one string and change rooms and showers are dark and dingy. Of course, the ice is decent and the rooms are clean which is likely why most people don't overly complain. The building houses the Sarnia Sports Hall of Fame and as such you would think it would rank higher on the priority list. It does not.

They also have a gymnastics club…read more There is a coffee shop that is not always open although I am not sure what the protocol is (maybe they rely on volunteers?) Regardless - at a later visit, we did manage to get coffee, and I can say that their coffee is GOOD! They also sell slushies which the kids love, and they have a fabulous clientelle (who wouldn't love the wee hockey players?!) Love the big rink; the other one doesn't have seats. Oh, and there's also a shop that sells popular vitamins and clothing. The complex offers a regular schedule of classes for the active people of the community; they advertised Yoga. We will be back, following our gorgeous, fabulous grandsons as they progress through their hockey program. GO TEAM!!! :-)
