That being said, I don't go to every show but normally pick two or three a year that most interest me - not including smaller productions downstairs at the McManus or one off concerts or events. Admitedly, it may not have the production values of a big Broadway play but more importantly it doesn't have the cost. The seats are comfortable (well, relatively) the lobby and lounges are well decorated and they often off rotating art and/or interactive displays set up. There is a decent selection of beer and wine to be enjoyed at intermission and even cookies and juice for the kids - all at reasonable prices. Ideally situated in the heart of Richmond Row, it's easy to have a nice dinner beforehand or apres show drinks. I'm always amazed when I hear some people say they've never been as it's always been a part of my life and the cultural experience. I mean - yes, sure -- I've seen some plays that I enjoyed less than others but this can be pretty easily avoided with a little careful selection of what shows to see. London is lucky to have regional theatre of such an amazing caliber and I hope it's around for another 100 years!

I use to play some of the games that they had and would end up winning a small stuffed animal. I still have to win that huge Bart Simpson doll...lol. Next September, I will plan to go back and see if I run into any of my old friends from school. This place will definitely be nostalgic for me.

But the evening was amazing, with a full room of people who appreciate original music. I'm amazed that there are 3 venues in this building operating at the same time. The guy who was running between the 3 shows was really friendly and helpful to the performers too. All-in-all, a great experience!

There were lots of different local food options at this festival. From your typical festival food (fries, funnel cakes, etc), to Indian, Thai, and even Ethiopian. There was plenty of healthier options if that is more your taste. Keep in mind, the food section was rammed during dinnertime. Lots of lines and people trying to get through. It isn't easy and can be frustrating. There are multiple stages scattered throughout the park which offer a wide variety of music styles all weekend. I got to see a bit of Five Alarm Funk and the Samba Squad, both really great acts. People were dancing and having a great time. I really love the vendors at Sunfest. There are a lot from the Toronto area which adds a bit of variety in comparison to other festivals in Victoria Park. There are still tons of local vendors too which is nice because there are a ton of locally made products available. I don't get out to the markets as much as I should so its nice to see their wares displayed in the park. While this festival is super busy, it brings a welcome, positive buzz to the downtown core. Good vibes all around, I highly recommend!

Parking lots are located all around the the large building (that houses the children's museum but other stores and shops as well). Parking lots do start filling up fairly quickly but there was more than enough spots. Inside the play museum, there is a free area to hang your costs with ample space. There's tons of stuff to do for kids in the children's museum. Some highlights: Stepping in, there's a giant tree house type play ground where kids can climb up and explore. There's a kid sized town that includes a fire station, dentist/medicL area, ice cream shop, school, home, grocery store, farm. There's even little apron/hats for different areas for dressing up. There's a "sand area" to give up dinosaurs, a space area up on another floor. Perhaps one of the key defining features is the huge water play area that includes a giant fountain to shoot balls up, a fishing area, Lego area to build a dam. They even provide aprons to try to reduce wet shirts on kids. There's a dry off area with hoses that shoot air. There's also an area at the back that changes from time to time - the theme this time was Winter Olympics. There are shows that occur throughout the day like a star show and a fossil show. There are places to eat, a microwave to heat up food and vending machines. Overall, a great day trip for people in the area with young kids!

The water play table is huge and thoughtfully designed, allowing kids to experiment, discuss, and learn basic physics concepts while having fun. The farm area is very educational -- my child loved learning about animals and how chickens lay eggs. There are also lab programs for older kids, which is a great bonus for families with children of different ages. Other highlights include the supermarket role-play area, corn factory (harvest, make, and pack corn), fossils and dinosaur sand digging, light-up puzzles, hospital, fire station, and a packaging station that teaches how factory systems work in a fun way. Everything was clean and well maintained. A big plus for parents: large, clean washrooms, plus smaller washrooms designed for older kids, which made the visit much easier. Admission is very reasonable at $15.50 per person for adults and children aged 1 and up. Overall, this is a fantastic destination for families, especially on rainy days or weekends. Highly recommend if you're visiting London, Ontario with kids!

An independent cinema is always fantastic, the Hyland is a treasure. This place is well-run and clean. The staff is always friendly and informed about coming shows and events. I especially like that for special events, there can be a curated pre-show of interviews and related ads (i.e. - vintage tie-in toy ads for the Star Wars shows). Some of the standout special events we've attended over the years have been: the world premier of Women Talking with a talk by the director, a silent film festival with an expert speaker and a live pianist to play the accompanying music, series marathons (Lord of The Rings and StarWars), a Mama Mia sing-along (I can't remember if that was a planned event or just happened organically), and The Rocky Horror Picture Show with costumes encouraged (like any good RHPS showing there was excellent audience participation). The popcorn is always hot and fresh. Fair notice, it's an old theatre with old theatre seats (my husband always brings a cushion). The parking lot can be a bit chaotic but I find that part of the charm. There's plenty of street parking in the neighborhood.

I'll admit, indie, art, and foreign films aren't my thing, but Hyland does release some more well known films, just a bit later than the big guys. And you know what? That's okay! I'll gladly take Hyland's old school vibe over the other guy's incessant advertising and jacked up prices. This theatre brings me back to the good old days of movie going. Plush fabric seats, no cup holders, and no stairs, just the good old slanty floor. Same goes for the concession stand. Very simple, and quite affordable, with lots of unique options like artisan popcorn. I went to Hyland to see the Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 double feature. What a treat! Thankfully we purchased our tickets online through their paypal system because it was buuuusy! Almost completely full! They have a retro night called "Retromania" which this event was a part of. There was a lot of parking in the back but it was full when we arrived. Thankfully there is a lot of parking on the streets nearby. It was a bit unfortunate that they started a half an hour late but with a line up out the door, GO HYLAND GO! We didn't get out of there until 2:30 or so. Thankfully they kept the concession stand open between the films and they sell coffee and tea. I had a blast at Hyland and I definitely want to catch more films there! PS: FUN FACT, my dad used to go on dates at Hyland Cinema in the 70s! This place has a lot of history. I suggest checking out their website and reading about it!
