I'm not sure if it gets too much better than a restaurant built into a castle wall. We went to visit our Italian family and they took us to this amazing restaurant, Il Mandrillo! It has a Santa Fe/ Italian feel when you walk inside. As we walked through the restaurant to the outside I realized we were actually walking through the Castle wall. The outside area is covered and has great views of both the city from one direction and the castle wall from the other.
We ordered three pizzas and a plate of prosciutto. One of the pizzas had strings of horse on it. It tasted amazing. Horse isn't my favorite, but this was delicious. The crust is the perfect thinness for the region and once again the house wine is the way to go.
I can't forget to mention our most amazing waitress, Nuncia! She was an attentive host and very friendly. She sent us home with some freshly baked bread and finished our meal (post bill) with some apertivo tastings of lemoncello, grappa, and a licorice drink.
I adore this spot and it will be another on our list of must do with family and friends when they come to visit. read more
